Many of you will be well aware of how seriously I take my daily routine. The non-negotiable habits I integrate into my life to make sure I’m present, accountable, focused and able to reach the highest levels of performance possible, but, it’s not easy and requires discipline and a deep understanding of what works.
My daily routine has been forged over the years and I have benefitted from spending time with some of the most successful, high-performance individuals on the planet. Pretty much every person I’ve interviewed has taught me something about success, failure or how to overcome the challenges that life presents.
It’s how I’ve been able to pursue my passions and maintain success in everything from my business to my relationships. It is also why I’m always looking for guests that can bring some inspiration and added value not just to me, but to you, the viewers.
Joining me live in the London Real studio today, is a man who has pushed his body to the absolute limits and been recognised across the world as someone who has no equal. Yes, Mat Fraser, the five-time CrossFit Games champion is making his long-overdue appearance on the show, to explain exactly how he became the fittest man on the planet, and the processes and mentality it took to reach such a lofty status.
The CrossFit Games is a tournament that tests every aspect of fitness imaginable, from endurance and speed to strength and agility across a range of challenging and constantly evolving disciplines, really is the definitive test of one’s physicality and leaves little to the imagination when whittling down the best overall athlete on the planet.
Mat’s first appearance at the Games came in 2014, as he scooped the title of Rookie of the Year. As a novice in the sport, Mat relied on his experience as a Junior National Weightlifting Champion and former Resident Athlete at the Olympic Training Centre in Colorado. He was strong and powerful but lacked the cardio fitness and range of skills necessary to challenge for the top honour.
Mat returned one year later in 2015, but once again fell short, finishing in second place. It was a wake-up call and a defining moment in Mat’s life. Should he continue to push his body to the brink, forgoing his social life and maintaining his strict lifestyle or fall back on his academic achievements and pursue a more ordinary life?
Mat chose the path very few men and women take. He knuckled down and pushed himself harder than even he thought possible. No stone was left unturned and every sacrifice imaginable was made. Mat returned in 2016 and won the tournament by a record margin of victory. He then won again in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. He became the most successful athlete in CrossFit Games history and the unequivocal fittest man on the planet.
His achievements are even more remarkable when you consider that Mat broke his back in two places during a junior weightlifting tournament many years earlier. He was told by the doctor at the time, he would never work out again, his dreams of becoming an Olympian were in tatters and a long road to recovery lay ahead.
Today Mat is spreading the word or at least his mantra – that ‘Hard Work Pays Off’. This message has been the cornerstone of his philosophy and approach to everything he does in life. And, by reminding himself of those four words on a daily basis, he was able to become the best, not once, but five times.
“I’m gonna do today what other people aren’t willing to. So I can do tomorrow, what other people can’t.”
Mat’s book not surprisingly echoing that very sentiment and titled simply, ‘Hard Work Pays Off’ is essentially a training manual. One that breaks down how you, no matter what your level of fitness, or if you’ve ever attempted CrossFit before, will be able to transform your body and mind by following the detailed guidelines that promise peak strength, endurance, speed and a champion mindset.
Mat’s wilful determination to be the best, his hunger, desire and unwavering commitment is a lesson to us all. Consistency is something I always preach to my students. To turn up every day and to have a plan that you persistently follow with passion. Mat did just that and achieved superhero status.
Mat’s consistency alongside a relentless attitude helped him achieve his goals. If you want to do the same then you could be the ideal candidate to join my Life Accelerator Program. Each month I take a small group of students through a strict process of non-negotiable daily habits that create truly focused, high-performance people that excel in every aspect of their lives. If you want to level up then don’t delay and make that lasting change today.
