The health of the planet affects the food we eat, the oceans we fish and the climate our children will live in. London Real has talked to a NASA climate scientist, a pioneering farmer, a marine conservation campaigner and authors who study why civilisations collapse. These conversations cover climate models, farming and the politics of agriculture, overfishing, and what history and science tell us about our place in the world. Every full interview is free to watch.
From NASA climatologist Dr Gavin Schmidt and farmer Joel Salatin to The Black Fish founder Wietse van der Werf, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jared Diamond, theoretical physicists Brian Greene and Sean Carroll and ethnopharmacologist Dennis McKenna: our planet and our place in it.
Dr Gavin Schmidt, a climatologist at the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, works on understanding past, present and future climate change and on building and testing climate models. He has written more than 120 publications. Joel Salatin, who calls himself a Christian libertarian environmentalist capitalist lunatic farmer, discusses the politics of agriculture and how he believes farming builds character. Wietse van der Werf founded The Black Fish, a marine conservation movement that aims to end industrial overfishing by exposing illegal and destructive fishing practices.
Jared Diamond, author of Guns, Germs and Steel and Collapse, draws on anthropology, ecology, geography and evolutionary biology to explain how human societies developed. Theoretical physicist Brian Greene looks at the far future of the universe and how to see the beauty of science in everything. Sean Carroll, a specialist in quantum mechanics, discusses his book Something Deeply Hidden. At the premiere of London Real’s film Reconnect, Dennis McKenna joined Brian Rose to talk about the plant medicine ayahuasca.
