History explains how we got here and warns us about where we could go next. London Real has sat down with Pulitzer Prize winners, historians, podcasters and people who lived through some of the darkest chapters of the last century. The conversations range from the rise and fall of civilisations and the search for a lost Ice Age culture to the Holocaust, the Mafia and reporting on recent wars. Some guests challenge the accepted story, and they do not always agree. Every full interview is free to watch.
From Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jared Diamond and Hardcore History creator Dan Carlin to Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss, Fingerprints of the Gods author Graham Hancock, rapper and author Akala, History on Fire host Daniele Bolelli and investigative journalist Seymour Hersh: the past and why it still matters.
Jared Diamond, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and UCLA professor, gives a short history of everybody for the last 13,000 years, drawing on anthropology, ecology, geography and evolutionary biology. Dan Carlin, creator of the Hardcore History podcast, explains how he turns long stretches of the past into gripping narratives and why storytelling matters to historical analysis. Daniele Bolelli, a university professor who hosts the History on Fire podcast, talks about philosophy, martial arts and his book Create Your Own Religion. Akala, the rapper, poet and journalist whom Brian calls the most historically-versed person he has met, argues that knowledge of the past is a form of power.
Graham Hancock has spent more than thirty years researching ancient mysteries. In Magicians of the Gods he argues that an advanced civilisation was lost at the end of the last Ice Age and that some of its knowledge survived. He presents this as a challenge to the accepted timeline of human history. In America Before he turns to the Americas as the key to that lost civilisation, and in Ancient Apocalypse he discusses his Netflix series. His earlier visits cover the sacred vine and his novel War God.
The late Eva Schloss (1929 to 2026), Anne Frank’s stepsister, told Brian about her childhood in Vienna, hiding in Amsterdam, surviving Auschwitz-Birkenau and the life she rebuilt after liberation. She spent decades teaching young people about the Holocaust. Salvatore “Sammy the Bull” Gravano, former underboss of the Gambino crime family, describes his life in the Mafia and what came after. Seymour Hersh, the veteran investigative journalist, argues that the United States and Norway were behind the Nord Stream pipeline explosions, and in a second interview claims the CIA covered it up.
