American Conservative Commentator, Author & Political Activist

“The world is not happening to Candace Owens. Candace Owens is happening to the world.”

In short: Candace Owens is the American conservative commentator, author and founder of BLEXIT. In this 2020 conversation, her second appearance on London Real, she joined Brian Rose in September, just after the release of her book Blackout. It was streamed live on the Digital Freedom Platform with Brian’s pledge that the conversation would not be edited or censored.

This episode first aired on the Digital Freedom Platform on 22 September 2020.

Recorded in September 2020, days after the release of her book Blackout: How Black America Can Make Its Second Escape from the Democrat Plantation, this is Candace Owens’s second appearance on London Real. Owens, the conservative commentator and co-founder of BLEXIT, joins Brian Rose six and a half months pregnant with her first child, after a summer of public fights over George Floyd, Black Lives Matter and a viral feud with Cardi B.

She starts with the Cardi B saga, arguing that Joe Biden’s interview with the rapper was pandering, and that celebrities who attack her husband George Farmer for being white are the real racists. She talks about raising a biracial child, why she believes racism towards white people has become acceptable, and why so few public figures will say what they think.

Owens then reveals how Simon & Schuster nearly held back Blackout over her comments on George Floyd, explains why she opposes turning criminals into martyrs, and argues that the media, LeBron James and the New York Times v Sullivan ruling help fuel violence against police. She discusses the Democrat Party’s history on race, LBJ, education, the breakdown of the Black family and her return to faith.

The conversation closes with her case for personal responsibility, the book’s sales of more than 140,000 copies in its first week, BLEXIT’s growth to 25 states, her view of the 2020 election and her early experience of pregnancy.

Candace talked about her public feud with Cardi B, the fight she says she had to get Blackout published before the election, and why she decided to share her own story in the book for the first time. She set out her arguments on the media, celebrity influence and the Democrat Party’s record on race, and spoke about education, family, rediscovering her faith and the idea at the heart of the book: personal responsibility.

Six and a half months pregnant at the time, she also reflected on raising a biracial child and her plans to watch the US election from the English countryside.

Key takeaways

  • Stop seeing yourself as a victim. Candace’s advice is to try it for a day, like a new diet, and tell yourself the world is not happening to you, you are happening to the world.
  • Personal responsibility feels good. She said it does not sound exciting, but taking responsibility lifts a weight off your shoulders and replaces misery with the belief that you can do better tomorrow.
  • Surround yourself with the right team. She credited a small, positive team and her husband running the business for allowing her to speak freely without being tempted to back down.
  • Switch emotions off and research. When she feels the media trying to make her emotional, she said, she stops and looks for the facts before speaking.
  • Capitulation only feeds demands. She compared giving in to a mob to giving in to a screaming toddler: the behaviour gets worse, not better.
  • Put yourself where you feel uncomfortable. She pointed to BLEXIT co-founder Brandon Tatum, a Bernie Sanders supporter who went to a Trump rally and was changed by the patriotism he found there.

A hectic year and the Cardi B feud

Returning to London Real four months after her first appearance, Candace described the previous seven months as far from stress-free, but said a small, positive team and a sense of humour had got her through. She felt the Cardi B episode finally showed people the funny side of her that the media had never shown.

The feud began when Candace criticised Joe Biden for giving a rare interview to Cardi B, which she called pandering and, in her opinion, racist, because she felt serious Black interviewers could have asked him about his record. Cardi B responded on social media, and Candace said that attacks on her husband George Farmer for being white exposed a double standard on racism.

Pregnant with a biracial child, Candace said she was more aware than ever of how people talk about race, and that her child would be an example of the civil rights movement’s dream. She named BLEXIT co-founder Brandon Tatum as one of the few others willing to say the same in public.

Getting Blackout published

Candace said she added material to Blackout while printers were shut during lockdown, including an extra chapter on culture. She told Brian that after her comments on George Floyd went viral, she heard her publisher, Simon & Schuster, planned to hold the book back until after the election, and that it changed course within 48 hours after she threatened legal action. She stressed that the book’s thesis is personal responsibility.

She said the publisher had also pushed back on the title, and that she fought to keep the book in her own voice. Being a published author had been on the bucket list she put in a time capsule at the age of eight, and she said Amazon ran out of its 90,000 copies within 24 hours, with more than 140,000 copies sold in the first week.

The media, celebrities and accountability

Candace argued that race issues are pushed to the front of American politics before every election, and that the media and celebrities spread incomplete accounts of police shootings. She singled out LeBron James, saying that people with huge followings have a responsibility to check the facts before reacting, and to correct themselves when they are wrong.

She called for New York Times v Sullivan, the ruling that sets the bar for defamation claims by public figures in the US, to be reversed, saying she prefers the UK’s defamation standard. She also called for the funding of Black Lives Matter and Antifa to be investigated, and for tougher penalties for rioting, while saying everyone has the right to protest peacefully.

Telling her own story

Blackout was the first time Candace wrote publicly about her childhood. She said she had protected her family’s privacy, but that staying silent had let the media create a false picture of her, from claims she grew up wealthy to claims she says racism does not exist, when she had lived through a hate crime in high school. She said she has never voted for a Democrat, though she was liberal when she was young.

She described being placed in the top classes at school after testing well and being bullied for “acting white” because she spoke what others called proper English. She argued that Black America faces a culture problem that celebrates entertainers over achievers, and she set out her view of the Democrat Party’s history on race, including the record of Lyndon B. Johnson.

Family, faith and personal responsibility

Candace argued that the breakdown of the family lies behind many of society’s problems, and that Karl Marx saw the family and religion as obstacles to an all-powerful state. She explained how she rejected her grandfather’s daily Bible readings as a teenager because faith did not seem cool, and how her life improved when she brought that structure back. You do not have to be religious to learn from the Bible, she said.

Asked how people can move away from a victim mindset, she suggested trying it for a day and repeating the phrase she used herself. She closed with her predictions for the 2020 election and said she planned to watch from Hampshire with her English husband, six and a half months pregnant and enjoying an easy pregnancy.

4:14 Brian Rose: You and praising you for standing up to your principles because I’ve been watching you for the last few months and there were some seriously hectic moments where you know you really had to stand up for what you believe in the face of I can only imagine millions and millions of people going the other way and we’ve had our own fight here with freedom of speech and I had some tough dark moments where I had to like really think what is important to me and is it worth putting my business on the line and my reputation on the line and I know that there’s not many people that do that and I remember watching what you’re doing and I thought man that cannot be easy to go up against Black Lives Matter movements and the left and everybody in America so anyways I just wanted to say I really appreciate you for doing that and it’s it’s really impressive to watch.

4:55 Candace Owens: Thank you yeah it definitely has not been a stress-free seven months or so but you know I’m just a unapologetic warrior for the truth and I just cannot stand lies and increasingly we are just finding ourselves in a web of deception in terms of our Western civilization and society.

5:18 Brian Rose: Yeah and you’re really showing that out and you know you could have taken a pause or you know given it a few days or you know given it a week and let some things you know blow over and you didn’t you were like in there going at it doing Facebook lives with 100 million views and really saying no this is what I believe also your sense of humor seem to have jacked up about three or four notches and you know it’s like it’s amazing what you’re doing the sense of humor is out there you know you’re doing this all while you’re pregnant as well I just don’t know how you’re pulling all this off Candace but it’s it’s fun to watch you really it’s really kind of fascinating to watch this entire evolution these past few months how have you found it all with the pregnancy the Cardi B drama you’re launching this book which is selling literally hundreds of thousands of copies how are you feeling.

6:10 Candace Owens: I feel great you know it’s definitely it’s tiring but I think at the same time I have an incredible group of people around me like we have a small team everyone’s super positive everybody works hard I have a husband who makes sure the business runs smoothly so I can go out and I can just be me and say what I think and I think that’s almost the most important thing on this journey is making sure you have a good team that surrounds you because the wrong people who don’t believe in what you’re doing or don’t understand what you’re doing can really tempt you to shut down and I don’t have that and regarding a sense of humor it’s actually it’s so funny because we were hiring a new person to join our team he had said something along the lines of nobody knows how funny you are and I’m constantly making jokes like I have a very big sense of humor my husband has a big sense of humor and it’s always been what’s gotten me through life is just having a sense of humor and I don’t think anybody saw that because the media sort of made me this super stern.

7:11 Candace Owens: Serious character you know a bit of a caricature of me and I think for the first time people saw that with the Cardi B saga that I’m that’s that’s normal Candace that’s typical Candace so it’s nice to compete inside me.

7:20 Brian Rose: Yeah and I think that’s what’s great about the book which I want to get into because we actually get to see a bit more of you know and it feels like you’re being a little more vulnerable these days and like letting us know your backstory and going into more detail and like you said just the humor is crazy I mean everybody should follow Candace on Instagram and watch your stories because you got some jokes and the cat the cat’s involved and look you mentioned Cardi B so maybe we should just sort this out right now you had this big public feud with Cardi B on Instagram you said you were playing chess and she was playing checkers and I think it came on the back of her interviewing Joe Biden and then you kind of speaking to her about that for someone who’s been on Mars for the past few months can you break down kind of what happened and where we’re left now and why this is significant because it is more than just a joke there’s actually a lot of serious undertones here.

8:21 Candace Owens: Yeah so for those of people who don’t follow hip hop or rap Cardi B is probably arguably the biggest female rap artist in America I think that’s definitely a fact and she has the number one song which is literally about female genitalia you know encouraging women to dance and she’s got this whole dance and you’ll see 12 year olds and 11 year olds I’m just changing parts you should never see an 11 year old or 12 year old shaking but that’s her brand she kind of puts out this sort of music hyper sexualized music and she’s sort of known to be extremely illiterate that’s sort of kind of what built her brand she’s very funny and I don’t knock her for that I’m an unapologetic capitalist free market person if there’s a market for something and nobody’s getting hurt in the process great more than merrier she deserves her success for people downloading her music but because she blew up so quickly because of her personality she got 75 million follow 75 million followers on Instagram of course the politicians see her as an opportunity for them to get her to encourage minorities the you know bulk.

9:24 Candace Owens: Of who listened to her music to vote for Democrats so we had serious contenders for the presidency first Bernie Sanders sitting down with Cardi B it is unfathomable I mean I could I don’t know if you guys had a guy in the UK I know that was named Al Yankovic I don’t know this I’m trying to make it’s akin to like the president of the United States everyone’s sitting down with Weird Al Yankovic it’s just you don’t do that unless you’re ultimately trying to pander and you actually think the people that follow that person are so stupid that just her sitting down with them guarantees the vote so I you know accurately and honestly call that out and it was more of a referendum on the Democratic Party than on her for doing this especially Joe Biden who has given a very small amount of interviews this year has pretended COVID-19 is the bubonic plague and he cannot give any interviews but he came up for air to honor her with an interview and the interview if you have the time I do recommend you go watch it’s 15 minutes it’s very hard to get through it without just watching brain cells fall out but she’s making noises she’s going like.

10:28 Candace Owens: And like kind of just sounds like Veruca Salt don’t care how I want it now just saying what she wants even though the things that she’s demanding don’t make sense together she wants her taxes lowered but she wants free health care for all and she’s just listing it off and she wants black men to stop dying which is just like I mean is this a list for God you know I mean I don’t know what this is or what how a Democrat politician is going to make black men stop dying especially when those that are being murdered are being murdered overwhelmingly by other black men so I a policy’s not going to fix that and it just to me was in my honest opinion it was racist it was racist because there are people I obviously am conservative but there are intelligent black liberals are intelligent black conservatives they’re intelligent black moderates that could have sat down and asked him meaningful questions important questions about his history on race you know Joe Biden when he was in the Senate voted to maintain segregated schools because he said and I quote that’s what black people wanted that they want their schools to be separated he didn’t want integrated busing this is a man that.

11:35 Candace Owens: Authored the parts of the crime bill of 94 which will heal a lot of black Americans talking about the unjust criminal system well he was the author of that which was passed under Bill Clinton another Democrat president so any anybody would have asked them those questions it’s not saying entertainers don’t have a right to be in politics but I’m saying when they make a mockery and you know this person doesn’t care about anything other than being funny and you’re giving a limited amount of interviews a year it’s it’s in my opinion insult and it’s racist so I called that out on the Ben Shapiro show and she got very upset and decided to have a Twitter spat about it.

12:07 Brian Rose: So it started on Twitter and then you guys bounced over to Instagram and did you actually ever talk to her.

12:15 Candace Owens: No so she and started on Twitter like responded to the interview that I was having with a fellow conservative commentator Ben Shapiro and she instantly started making no sense and was like well I’m tired of my tax dollars going to Trump’s campaign I’d rather they go for education free education so I explained to her that under no scenario or her tax dollars going to the Trump campaign that is illegal and no campaign can be funded by tax dollars that is illegal and also explained to her that her money was already going to free education that is what the public school system is so then she said I’m gonna go live and she met on Instagram and she went live and bizarrely took a figurine this doll and was just sort of talking and saying that there are a lot of political celebrities who attack her and you know just started disrespecting me my family and the irony being is that her whole thing is we gotta get Trump out of office like all of these celebrities.

13:20 Candace Owens: Just say it like they’re all brainwashed and they can’t tell you why and she keeps saying we have to get these racists out of office and in this very same breath she’s attacking my husband for being caucasian attacking my husband’s father simply for being caucasian and accusing him of being in the Ku Klux Klan so it really exposed it was a great opportunity going back to your point brian that it’s it was it was funny but there was some serious stuff to be learned here which is that these celebrities are sitting here telling you what you must do to get rid of racism when they are the very racists themselves.

13:54 Brian Rose: Yeah you called that out and made a separate video because she started attacking your husband George who we’ve had on the show who is an incredible episode he’s a really fascinating amazing guy but she called him out for being white and then you just called out the hypocrisy of that and the duplicitousness that gets a pass all the time and you put you put a pretty serious video out about that and talked about how that was not okay to do that.

14:19 Candace Owens: Yeah we’ve got this weird thing now where it’s for whatever reason in Western civilization the media has sort of created this environment where people do not believe it’s possible to be racist towards white people and the irony is that we are actually at the height in society of racism towards white people in America being the worst with Black Lives Matter running up to white Americans eating at a restaurant I’m sure you’ve seen these clips by now of them demanding that they pledge their allegiance to Black Lives Matter by raising their fists in the air I mean innocently eating and if they don’t they start screaming at them and calling them racists and the scenes are really reminiscent of those scenes that we saw flipped in the 1960s during the time of Jim Crow and segregation when you see those scenes of white people harassing black people for being in restaurants where they didn’t want them so it’s it’s mind-boggling and I’m I’m obviously pregnant with a biracial child and so I’m a lot more cognizant of this racism than I’ve ever been in my life and I can’t imagine waking up and seeing an article for example you guys have.

15:21 Candace Owens: BuzzFeed in the UK we have BuzzFeed here but buzz people literally what an article that says white people need to just shut up right and I just say could I couldn’t imagine waking up and seeing an article that just says black people need to just shut up it’s so painfully and obviously racist and yet somehow white people have been made to believe that is okay because they’re paying for the sins of their ancestors who enacted sins against people that are not alive today I have never been a slave I didn’t have to go through whatever your white ancestors didn’t actually I don’t know why white people are made to answer for the sins of their white ancestors but not some of the blessings that they brought because it was white people that ended slavery first in the world you know if we’re talking about France followed by the UK followed by America were the first nations to abolish slavery so I will get no credit for that this important practice which actually started in Africa which was started by the Muslims and which continues today upon the continent of Africa there’s still slavery there’s still child slavery and yet all of that is excusable.

16:26 Candace Owens: Perfectly fine it’s just this one segment of history where white men enslaved people and white people have been slaves more white people in history have been enslaved than black than black Africans and yet people don’t know that and it somehow has become perfectly permissible to just pause on this one point in history and to pretend that everything bad that happened is the white man’s fault and that is in its of itself us perpetuating a racist society and I speak out against it because I’m not going to have my child when he or she is born have to decide between whether they’re privileged or oppressed you know it’s ridiculous.

17:01 Brian Rose: Yeah it’s fascinating that this is all happening like you said when you’re pregnant with what’s going to be a biracial baby I mean this is this is really hitting home in strange ways while it’s happening I mean that must be fascinating to be happening to you to watch all this and also be about to produce a child who’s going to live in this world I guess it just means it just doesn’t make the stakes even higher.

17:23 Candace Owens: It does and you know I think the irony of it also is that when someone like Cardi B attacks me for marrying a white man or you know when she attacks me you know because I’m I’m pregnant with a white man’s baby what she’s attacking are all of the civil rights gains so you’re actually you’re fighting for a society that would be segregated right you think white people should marry white people and black people should marry black people that’s literally what our ancestors fought to end right so my child will be an example of the dream that they claim to be wanting to fight for equality right my child would be an example of having broken the barriers of racism and just people being able to love because they’ve chosen to love somebody and yet you have these people that claim they are fighting for civil rights that at the very same time mock people that are living the civil rights accomplishments.

18:15 Brian Rose: And yet you’re the only person saying this Candace I mean does that boggle your mind sometimes I can’t think of a single person in America or the world who’s actually calling this out except for you.

18:23 Candace Owens: Yeah you know there’s one other person who co-founded BLEXIT with me Brandon Tatum who’s actually ironically in a similar situation he’s a black man former police officer he’s married to a white woman and she’s pregnant and having a child and we are probably the most outspoken people in America about this and you know in terms of people that have massive platforms they just don’t have the spine I take a lot of times silence to mean that they’re there they agree with a lot of what I’m saying but they’re just fearful because there is such a vicious emotionality that surrounds this narrative even though they know it to be nonsensical even though they know it to be wrong even though they know that there is not a single data point or metric that they can point to that proves that there is a systemic racism against black people it’s so embedded now because of the medium because of the culture that people are just scared to tell the truth.

19:19 Brian Rose: Yeah and that’s why again I just want to emphasize again how strong and impressive it is that you stood up because everybody else kowtows to this mob mentality from corporations to politicians to you name it they’ll just you know zip it and let it try to let it pass or put something out that’s conciliatory but they won’t actually say what they think you know but you will do you get paid for it and they’re paying for it you know um.

19:52 Candace Owens: The capitulation doesn’t mean that you get to a point in society and peace when you when you when you capitulate to a toddler right if a toddler screaming on the floor and thinks that’s how they get what they want and you say okay yes that toddler doesn’t then correct their behavior they get more aggressive and more demanding and that’s what we’re seeing happening with these various Marxist movements like Black Lives Matter because you’ve said it was okay for them to express themselves by throwing Molotov cocktails right it’s not getting better it’s getting worse and corporations are finding now that they’re being accused of racism even whether when there is none now they’re in a in a environment where even making a black person upset a black person having any negative experience can be interpreted as racism and we all deal with negative experiences every single day I can tell you know I just went to the store and came back and I can tell you five people on the way who just annoy me right and or that I feel annoyed by but I don’t feel annoyed by them because they’re doing this because I’m black right I mean literally I had a woman at Starbucks I ordered a coffee and you’re allowed to have a minimal.

20:58 Candace Owens: Amount of coffee when you’re pregnant and I was like oh you know I’ll have a large almond milk latte almond milk latte and she looked at me and she said do you mean decaf I said no I mean I mean a medium almond milk latte you know already starting with like the judgment but you know what it was just a regular thing that she thought she didn’t say that because I’m black and she was like I should then take that experience and internalize it and say she looked at me and thought that because I’m a black person I can’t be responsible for my child and try to get this person fired but that’s actually how people think now they don’t know how to just have a weird awkward negative experience and move on with their day because that’s sort of like a clause of humanity you’re not going to like everybody not every person is going to be pleasant to you and some people are going to get under your skin but we’re infantilizing black America to believe that they should never have to experience that ever without seeing some undertones of racism in the in the situation and the more you enable it the worse it gets like you said correct.

21:51 Brian Rose: Wow and you get into that in the book a bit and I think it’s really powerful stuff just to finish up with Cardi is it is it done you said you’re always gonna win anyways because you just will because you come with a completely you’re playing chess is this over or will this continue.

22:13 Candace Owens: We’ll see we’ll see how you know how serious she is about wanting to engage in politics I like I said I’m happy to have a conversation with her and this was not meant to be an attack on her and I never responded to her personal attacks on me but I consider myself to be a person that speaks up every time I see black Americans being manipulated and she was being used as a pawn in a game that is much bigger than her so I mean if Cardi B just wants to entertain and be funny and do her thing then fine the second she moves into politics and starts saying things that are fundamentally untrue and that are dissuading people against their own best interests then she will you know she will find an enemy in me.

22:46 Brian Rose: It’s going to be interesting to see how this goes because she’s quite she’s quite intelligent like there’s a lot going on to build that whole brand and it’ll be interesting to see if this plays out to be something in the end where maybe you know maybe you have a real conversation with her maybe she actually loves to.

23:03 Candace Owens: I’d welcome it with any person that I disagree with so yeah I think.

23:11 Brian Rose: And what about the cardisaurus is it coming back or do you have to hit number one for the cardisaurus to make a party is not.

23:19 Candace Owens: And I’m shocked you know we’re getting tons of interview requests for cardisaurus but cardisaurus is a diva very difficult to work with and I may auction it out auction cardisaurus away at Christmas and give the proceeds to charity because people really love cardisaurus.

23:34 Brian Rose: Well I’m not happy about that my two boys they’re three and four years old and all they care about is dinosaurs and we’re going to the Natural History Museum on Sunday to see the dinosaur bones and they want cardisaurus to come back so just going to put that out there all right I want to talk about this book you know you probably submitted the final manuscript for this I’m guessing six months ago maybe even more but now it’s out and literally I know you blasted through the hundred thousand copies on Amazon it’s the number two book in the country tell me about the timing of this was this I mean I guess did you know it was gonna come out now you obviously didn’t know the events were going to happen what are your thoughts on how big it’s become and is it actually changing the narrative.

24:23 Candace Owens: Yeah well so we knew we had a great book I mean I would say probably back when I first posted my comments about George Floyd that blew up and you know people started pre-ordering the book and then I actually went back and added to the book so I could talk more formally about Black Lives Matter about George Floyd I believe I also added about the Rayshard Brooks case just kind of talked about what was happening and we have an opportunity because all the printers were shut down during COVID-19. so right when my book was about to print everything shut down and I just decided to add a bit more add an entire chapter on culture during that time of the shutdowns and you know what I actually in this story I haven’t actually told yet but when I did my video and it went so worldwide and 100 million views talking about George Floyd corporate structure and Simon & Schuster got very nervous and they had hired just like every other corporation that capitulates to the left had hired a woman who.

25:25 Candace Owens: Was Black Lives Matter on wheels I mean they hired her to be the first black publisher of Simon & Schuster when she got hired she immediately made it all about race and said that she was going to bring in people that tackled race issues she was glad and you know long story short I got a phone call from a different publishing agency asking if they could bid on my book and I was like bit of my book what are you talking about is coming out in September and they were like well we hear that your book is getting dropped by Simon & Schuster because of your views on George Floyd and so I called them they denied it and then 24 hours later they were like yeah we’re not going to publish the book in September we’re not going to publish it before the election specifically and not only that we said okay when you’re going to publish it they wouldn’t give us a date and they said well we have a right according to your contract just hold the book for 18 months and just hold it and obviously their hope is that if they hold it for 18 months you’ll just walk away from your contract and bring it somewhere else without them having to lose anything because who wants their book held for 18 months um.

26:27 Candace Owens: So this was this happened in June and I saw absolute red it was the angriest I think I’ve ever been and my agent at the time was like listen we can just take cut our bets here and I mean cut our losses pardon and we can take the book to a different publisher and they’ll pay out whatever’s owed to you and I was like do I seem like the person that’s just gonna walk away from this scenario peacefully and I was very serious and I still mean what I said to my agent on the phone that day I said I want you to go back to Simon & Schuster I want you to make this very clear if they put my book on ice and an attempt to do this because I am not thinking in the manner that they think a black person needs to think I’m going to sue them and I’m going to get lawyers that I can’t possibly afford and I’m going to sue them for racism I’m going to sue them for discrimination I’m going to ask them for harassment and I’m also going to do a mass lawsuit against them for the plus 40 000 people that have pre-ordered this book you know because this is ridiculous.

27:31 Candace Owens: You’re basically saying to me that this is not my book the thesis just to be clear is personal responsibility what is at the wrong time to talk about black Americans being personally responsible this isn’t a book that’s like insulting people for who they are it’s about saying that black America is capable of doing it without government handouts and they felt that was the wrong time to talk about black responsibility so it was I was in England when this started happening actually as I spent some time during there during the lockdown and it was incredibly stressful I was in my first trimester of pregnancy I was taking three classes and this I have a viral video and now I’m dealing with Simon & Schuster and eventually long story short about 48 hours later they folded and we’re just like we’ll just publish the book anyways but it’s an important sort of people to know because people don’t know how hard I fight to be able to allow black Americans to think differently like to allow us to not be seen as a collective that are viewed as victims to like to I.

28:34 Candace Owens: Feel like I have to be the first person to fall on the sword so any other black American is allowed to tell the truth they didn’t like their specifically told my agent they didn’t like my tweets about George Floyd my tweets about George Floyd were his actual record so what did you not like about my tweets about you didn’t like how George Floyd lived his life he didn’t like he didn’t like that I was exposing the truth and that this person who had been sanctified and virtually treated like he was Jesus Christ by the media with a three-day telecast funeral he didn’t like that the truth was coming out about who he was and how he lived his life and the various black Americans who were traumatized and targeted by him throughout his nine to 11 jail sentences that he had in his life and that is that’s the price for telling the truth when people have decided on a narrative that they’ve decided that this person is the ultimate victim and it’s it’s a price that I pay over and over again but I’m constantly fighting sometimes publicly but sometimes in that circumstance privately.

29:30 Brian Rose: Wow I can see why you saw red I mean and to put the book on ice I mean that’s that’s like another that’s like silencing you know on top of prohibiting you from publishing I mean that’s but I guess that’s the stakes of what’s actually happening out there right and you know just to finish up on George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks I mean you put out comments on both of those people I mean effectively I think you were saying let’s not turn these people into saints when they’re not let’s not let’s not create new narratives about things that happen is that is that what you were saying or what were you saying about those two incidents.

30:03 Candace Owens: That’s exactly what I was saying I mean there are criminals in the white community lifelong criminals or criminals and hispanic community they’re criminals in the black community I can only think of one community that will turn their crim their lifelong career criminals you know into t-shirts and murals and you know a three-day telecast funeral I mean it’s unheard of I mean I don’t know I can’t even think of a maybe a mobster like a mobster or a Pablo Escobar he died on a rooftop being shot by the police officers and I just can’t imagine people pretending that this is a man who crashed a plane you know to try to kill somebody and you know kill a lot of people in Colombia I just can’t imagine people the government individuals being speaking at a three-day telecast funeral for him we had Joe Biden speaking at the funeral we had we had a former president speaking out about this person’s life that’s just.

31:05 Candace Owens: Wrong I don’t care how it ended for the person if you thought it was fair the person which by the way in today’s reality if Pablo Escobar was killed in a rooftop today there would be mountain he’s black there’d be mass protests despite the fact that he was a drug dealer despite the fact that he killed plenty of people that’s kind of where we’re at right now in society that they’re they say it doesn’t matter what their history is what matters is what the police did in that action you know in that scenario and the truth is Pablo Escobar was shot in the back as he was running on a rooftop and that in the context of the 19 I don’t know if it happened in the 90s or the 80s but in that context seems appropriate but today it’s not anymore because police officers are always wrong no matter how violent the criminal is that they’re pursuing and that’s kind of what my question was to black America is why do we keep sanctifying our criminals why is this person receiving a three-day funeral when Dr Ben Carson dies when Herman Cain died a couple of months ago these are black men who made amazing accomplishments who lived their lives honorably when Clarence Thomas who I believe is the second black person to ever sit in the Supreme Court when he dies do you think there’s going to be a three-day telecast funeral.

32:12 Candace Owens: And a gold casket for him no so something’s wrong here our values are wrong here and this is happening because the immediate the media acquiesces to that sort of an environment because they make it seem like this is how important this individual was when they weren’t so you can at the same time not justify the manner in which a person was killed or hurt or harmed and also not say that we should take this next extraordinary step and make it seem like this person lives like Jesus Christ and that’s what I’m saying there is a balance right and with Rayshard Brooks I think you were saying that look this person was resisting arrest and trying to fight back against police officers fired and fired a taser at a police officer he fought the police officer beat him to the ground took the police officer’s weapon and fired the police officer’s weapon at the police officer and people are still saying he didn’t deserve to be shot and so then just say what you mean that you don’t think police officers deserve to live you know like again that’s really what we’re getting at with Black Lives Matter under no scenario should a police.

33:15 Candace Owens: Officer have the right to defend himself even when his life is on the line these police officers have families to go home to and for some reason people do not see them as human beings they’ve been incredibly dehumanized by our mainstream media narrative of the day they don’t understand that is a person behind that blue suit that is a person that is trying to make your streets safer that is a person that has a split second to make a decision that will decide whether or not they live or die and people don’t see that anymore and the media is completely co-opted by this leftist narrative.

33:48 Brian Rose: Which means we have Candace Owens the only person to talk sense it seems.

33:56 Candace Owens: Yeah I’m the only one I’m just telling the truth and that’s the craziest thing is it is the media’s job to add that color in context that would stop the mob mentality that would stop people protesting waiting outside of four houses if they just added a layer of truth to what they tell right they just said here are some important things to know about this suspect that was being apprehended which can put you perhaps into the mind of the police officer when he knows he’s dealing with a violent criminal that has a history you know the Jacob Blake won stunning I mean it’s because he had an arrest warrant a warrant out for his arrest for digitally raping a woman like for going into her home for digitally raping her and for telling her that she smelled like she had been with other man a woman a black woman called the police because she was scared right and this man had a weapon and he is fighting against police officers that are telling him to stop he is heading towards his car and nobody can empathize with the police or sympathize the police officer nobody can realize that they are pursuing a violent criminal with you know they have been called there so this whole idea of it’s just racism right like you just saw.

35:03 Candace Owens: A black man just wanted to kill him no in each one of these instances the police officers are being called right so this is not just aggressive they’re not pulling these people over and just aggressively policing them and so you right now the decision is like do you want a society that is governed by rules and regulations and equality for all meaning that under the same circumstances a white person who does this would be in the same circumstance if you assaulted a police officer and grabbed his weapon you have to be an unstable crazy person to do that I mean I just I can’t even wrap my head around what would make you think is up it’s okay to punch two police officers grab their weapon and fire it at them and think that you have a right to do that right you’re an unstable person and that’s scary because police officers are being asked to deal with people that are so mentally unstable that seems like a good decision to that.

35:52 Brian Rose: Yeah it boggles my mind you know I mean I grew up in America and you know you know the you respect the police you know you know you respect their power and when you’re respectful to them they’re usually respectful to you know and so all these other details seem to get lost where you’re you know fighting back against a police officer like you know when I was a kid I never heard of anybody doing that grabbing weapons I mean that’s that’s like way above the line across the line for this institution but that always seems to get dropped and then the media always go one way and you talk about this in your book in one of the chapters but why has the media been so co-opted to where when you describe this it seems honestly preposterous and like it’s it’s in a book of fiction the way you describe this world now.

36:40 Candace Owens: Yeah you know I the media at this moment and I’ve been saying this for last four years is that when ramp when race issues seem to ramp up in America it’s because there’s a pending election I mean 26 2015 2016 you remember Black Lives Matter right on the scene they virtually went away and now they’re back and the reason is because Black Lives Matter is in the trenches with the Democrat party who Democrats have funded this movement and the reason is because racial division all types of division also sex division gender division sexuality division this is the kind of stuff that politicians love because they think if I just assert my side on the side of this big issue then it guarantees me votes right so you see Joe Biden has been a big supporter of Black Lives Matter and has you know virtually come out and defended spoke at George Floyd’s funeral I think he did a telecast or a virtual thing at George Floyd’s funeral spoke out on behalf of Jacob Blake speaking out on behalf of Breonna Taylor so he is in his mind.

37:44 Candace Owens: If we can get a bunch of black people to believe in this narrative that they’re literally being hunted by police officers that I’m guaranteeing myself x amount percent of votes it’s a numbers game and they do the same thing with women the women versus men thing and now we’ve got you know men are all monsters MeToo movements and all of this stuff and the idea for Hillary in 2016 which is when the MeToo movement hit the scene was that I can guarantee that all women will vote for me because I’m going to make them feel that it’s their duty as a woman and right now we’re having a media which a left-wing media the same media that hates Donald Trump is willing to take that risk and say okay well perhaps we can make a bunch of black people feel emotional and irrational enough to believe that their lives are on the line in this election and that only one candidate will serve the purpose of backing up the criminal justice reform that needs to happen I mean do you in what world could you imagine people saying defund the police I mean what are we talking about it’s it’s so crazy and so ludicrous and they’re doing it Democrats are pushing for this in inner cities despite seeing.

38:48 Candace Owens: The staggering rates of violence tick up despite seeing that there has been and 200 percent increase across major inner cities in shootings from this time last year by one simple thing because they took billions out of the police departments and because they instigated this war against police officers and it’s not like when you remove police officers from a community it just you know it goes away nobody steps up to fill this vacuum they do and those people are criminals this is you’re talking about gang violence that they will become the protectors of the streets and that’s what we’re seeing today gang violence is increasing as police officers are being told to step back and stand down and as some of them are rightfully stepping down themselves and saying I don’t want to deal with this you know it’s already a tough job you’re already putting your life on your la on the line every single day and now you are being portrayed as a monster and a murderer by the mainstream media.

39:41 Brian Rose: It’s hard to believe I mean it sounds like a science fiction book except we’re living it and we’re seeing the crime rates go up in New York City and Chicago we’re seeing what happened in Seattle with that little mini experiment of what it’s like not to have police and how it immediately went into you know you know you know gang warfare and people shaking down businesses and you know all the things that happened within days and yet people are still crying out for it and the reason it’s they use it as a weapon is because it’s so effective you know all they have to do is divide us and then poke a few you know poke a few of us and it’s automatically weaponized and they can get us to do things in the short term if we don’t kind of wake up and see what they are doing but it’s it’s surprising to me how effective it is and that people can’t see what’s going on.

40:28 Candace Owens: Yeah because I mean the worst combination is ignorance and emotionality so if somebody is ignorant and emotional it is a dangerous cocktail and that is why I’ve also obviously attacked LeBron James a lot in the press right because he is ignorant and emotional and he hears something he accepts that to be the full version of the truth and he has an emotional reaction which he sends shares with hundreds of millions of people right and when he’s wrong he doesn’t correct himself he doesn’t say I have a responsibility to pursue the full facts of this case to make sure that I know what I’m talking about and I actually take that space in that time every single time the George Floyd stuff I researched that stuff and sat on that for days so I just wanted to see what the mainstream media was going to do and if this was really just about saying Derek Chauvin should be arrested which he was immediately kind of been arrested faster by police protocol or if this is going to be about just creating this narrative which ultimately was which is why I ultimately spoke out against it same thing with Breonna Taylor case I knew.

41:32 Candace Owens: For months that there was a lot of stuff that had not made it to the forefront I knew that but the lie the media telling alive and she was sleeping in her room and they had the wrong house and they came in they shot her Beyonce then writing a letter demanding justice on those lies every single every step of the way the media lied about what happened in this case excluding all of her you know her dealings with drug dealers in the narcotics industry and it was something that I always do is that I when I see the media trying to make me feel emotional I turn my emotions off and I start researching facts we have the exact opposite thing happening with people that have tremendous amounts of influence where they just accept whatever the media say to be the truth says to be the truth and they react and then they cause an after shock and earthquake of reaction amongst their followers and their fans and the sad part is that you get to a point where the end result of all of that is like what we saw in LA last week which was two police officers sitting in a cruiser just shot at for no reason.

42:37 Candace Owens: Unprompted by a black man or what happened last night when two police officers were shot for no reason unprompted by black men that is the aftershock of words like LeBron James when he comes out and says we are literally being hunted we can’t even walk outside of our homes you are signaling to black men that follow you and believe in you that there is a real war going on and that they are the prey and that the police are the predators and what are you going to do if you know that you’re in a wilderness with your predators you’re either going to hide you’re going to fight and you’re telling these people to fight you know and that’s what we’re seeing today and unfortunately although they will arrest these perpetrators of these crimes they will never arrest the real perpetrators and perpetuators of these crimes which in my opinion is the entire ecosystem of the athletes the Black Lives Matter paints on the NBA court you know the NFL players wearing the Jacob Blake thing without knowing that he you know is an alleged digital rapist and that those people will never have to pay for the society that they are helping to create and that bothers me.

43:40 Brian Rose: Do we have to hold these celebrities accountable and can you.

43:40 Candace Owens: I think you should I really do believe you should I think especially the media you know the reason for the media being able to do this and not be held accountable is because of New York Times v Sullivan which in my opinion should be reversed think about a world of you and this is like actually what I love about the UK the UK has a real defamation standard America does not because of New York Times v Sullivan so people can say harmful things about people know that it is 100 false and they don’t get in trouble right so you can you can say you can call a police officer a white supremacist you can call Candace Owens literally Hitler and there’s no there’s nothing I can really do other than read the articles and they say oh well Candace is a public figure so all bets are off you can say lies about Trump and call him a racist and white supremacist and you can delude millions and millions people into believing that vision because we have this standard that was destroyed by New York Times v Sullivan the standard should always be to tell the truth it doesn’t matter if the person is a public figure it doesn’t matter how many followers a.

44:42 Candace Owens: Person has with personal celebrity or politician they should be required to tell the truth and so I and then unfortunately when people do things for public for private citizens which we still do have a defamation standard many times it just costs too much money to fight it so you know the Covington Catholic case was a case in which he won great he stood up to the mob and he won and he raised ton of money because he was smeared as a white supremacist when he was a boy but too much of that goes on particularly when it comes to police officers and there’s really nothing they can do about it because they are considered you know public officials.

45:14 Brian Rose: You know I think about those people that shot those police officers and I feel like they’re gonna wake up five years from now and realize like what did I do like I just got angry and I read the LeBron tweet and I saw the Black Lives Matter protest that was funded by Soros and I just got angry that it wasn’t fair and I shot somebody and then they’ll realize later that they were just a pawn in someone else’s plan or some celebrity that just thought they’d send out a tweet and that they’re the ones paying for something that they didn’t even they don’t even know why they’re doing it to some extent.

45:46 Candace Owens: Yeah and in many ways they are victimized as well and I know that sounds so strange to say that people that enact these horrible crimes are victims themselves but they are at this moment in America they are victims of an entire ecosystem of lies I mean propaganda is real we know this we know the power of propaganda world wars have been fought because of the power of propaganda because the media had the power to make you think that certain people were less than or more than right now there we have a system of propagandists in America and they are treating police officers and law enforcement individuals like they are scum like they are an underclass it is okay to attack them like they’re they are not good people and therefore they can die right and they’re not paying for it there’s nothing there’s there’s literally no recompense here and I to me it sickened me I think there should be a law I think that when this.

46:50 Candace Owens: Something like in LA happens there should be something that happens to LeBron James for telling black men that they’re literally being hunted and not correcting it when he understood the facts of that case that he was speaking about when he said it because it is damaging but most importantly I mean there are so many politicians mayors attorney generals CNN MSNBC now entire networks of people that should be in my opinion should be serving time in prison alongside these people.

47:14 Brian Rose: And we haven’t even talked about the Chinese and Russian actors that are probably just dialing everything up a couple more notches because it disrupts it’s going to mess things up election year and it’s probably fun just to watch the Americans go out of their brains.

47:30 Candace Owens: Right it is and you know so we’re what right now we’re facing domestic terrorism and it’s likely you know I don’t know what is taking our Department of Justice so long to investigate these groups Black Lives Matter nobody knows where the billions of dollars that they raise goes so you’ve got a bunch of white people around the world sharing Black Lives Matter Black Lives Matter and I just donated encouraging other people to donate and none of them retained them when he goes I mean think about how crazy I can’t imagine if I was running a multi-billion dollar company and I wasn’t asked to show where the money was going and yet somehow this dark money we have no idea where it’s going I mean we have our guesses I’m pretty sure it’s going to Joe Biden’s campaign you know and going to get Democrats elected in these cities but we need to have that concrete proof Antifa who’s funding that don’t tell me that these people are just Monday through Friday nine to five able to protest and riot I’ve seen Antifa in action they are incredibly organized I think in the news today actually in the Daily Mail they showed.

48:32 Candace Owens: That the U-Haul showed up filled with supplies for Antifa okay so this is not like a spontaneous protest because something bad happened this is an organized domestic terrorist cell that is in America that I know Antifa is also in the UK right not nearly as you know impactful or powerful or as organized but this is the job of our government this needs to be investigated they all should be in prison and I think one of the things that we can immediately do is just put you know more severe punishment on certain acts like I thought it was great when Trump I think he was like a mandatory 10 years if you tear down statues right great let that be is it if that is really worth it for you to go in and tear down you know federal property and you’re and you’re willing to play the game of 10 years of your life then do it but we have to start you know we have to start implementing a more severe punishment system for domestic terrorists because this is not protesting you have a right to protest you should always have right to free speech always be able to go outside and say what you believe but you do not you do not have the right to throw Molotov cocktails into police cruisers you do.

49:35 Candace Owens: Not have the right to burn down ICE facilities you do not have any of those rights and to be able to get away with it over and over again like we’re seeing in Portland and Seattle that to me is it’s it’s unfathomable.

49:51 Brian Rose: Yeah I’m glad you said that and I think it’s important to note and yeah there’s it’s not coincidence that there’s a truckload of bricks that show up on the corner where the protests are or the U-Haul comes out and they’re like we got signs or we got shields I mean yeah this is obviously well-funded well-intentioned by all sorts of strange parties and it’s good you’re calling that out I want to talk about the book and it’s fascinating the timing of this book maybe we start with why you wrote it and also what caused you to go personal because you’re quite vulnerable Candace about your childhood and I never heard you tell these stories because you are usually talking about policy facts what we need to do I think you shy away from talking about your background sometimes and yet you decided to put that front and center in this book it’s right in those first few chapters I’m listening to the Audible right now thank you for doing the voice on it by the way and was that an intention of you to put yourself out there.

50:46 Candace Owens: Yeah you know I have your correct in the past I’ve kept my family stuck deeply close to my chest because I’m very protective of my family and I realized that I made a conscious decision to go into politics but it doesn’t mean that my family has made a conscious decision to become a public figure and that transition period has been very hard for them it’s a weird thing to log on to the internet and people are debating your sister your cousin your niece and calling her you know hoping she dies my sisters actually just logged off completely they don’t even do social media because it just became too much but I had also realized that in being silent about where I came from I had allowed the media to spin a narrative that just wasn’t true I had some people who thought that I grew up as a wealthy girl in Connecticut and people that thought oh she joined the Republican party after being a Democrat because the money was there since I mean complete foolishness I’ve never actually ever voted for a Democrat candidate I will be able to when I die.

51:48 Candace Owens: Say I was always a Republican and a conservative I just was liberal when I was young like many people are and was fortunate enough to figure things out before I cast my first ballot but I wanted people to see where my heart is on a lot of these issues I’m not saying these things because I think it’s popular because I think it’s trendy but because the realizations of these truths saved my life and I guess I want to be able to save the lives of other people I want them to see no I’ve lived through things that were you know classified as racism I’ve lived through this I’ve never said for example one of the worst lies about me on the internet is Candace says racism doesn’t exist I mean that couldn’t be further from the truth and yet it gets printed once people keep reprinting it and they just say Candace says racism doesn’t exist and yet she suffered through this hate crime in high school and that was something that I lived through that it was mine and the media was taking it you know and spinning it into something that it never was so I wanted to tell the story myself I wanted to say.

52:53 Candace Owens: Here it is read it I have nothing that I’ve ever tried to hide about where I’ve come from I the reason I’m conservative is because of all of these things and because I see how the media works and because I see how racism can be used as a theme to turn black people into single-issue voters so it allowed me to present me for I think the very first time.

53:17 Brian Rose: So true and I’ve heard little bits of your story but to now own it yourself and put it out and say you know this is exactly what happened this is how I feel it’s important to have that book you know that eight hours of audio where people can get all the way inside your head are you surprised how popular the book is.

53:34 Candace Owens: Yes so I am probably my own toughest critic I mean I work so hard and I think people know that but I don’t think they realize how hard I am on myself you know I really just wanted this book to be a success being an author was the first thing I ever wanted to be in life being a published author making New York Times bestseller list was on my bucket my bucket list that I created when I was eight years old and put in a time capsule like what do you want to be doing in 30 years and it was always be a published author be a published author so I just didn’t know what to expect working with this book was a lot of back forth between what the publisher wanted and me trying to maintain being myself and not being processed by the publisher so it was a battle the entire way to do it and you know I won in terms of being able to keep the content that I wanted to keep the book even the title was a debate with the publisher oh it’s too strong how black America can make a second escape from Democrat plantations and I’m.

54:37 Candace Owens: Like but that’s what I meant you know so it’s my book so if you want to sign a deal with me then you have to it has to be the dealers and I get to be Candace Owens but I we have been completely blown away with the success of the book it’s it’s incredible I mean I am so grateful and so honored to all of my fans but also to the people that keep sending me screenshots on Instagram that don’t like me just like I want to see what Candace Owens is about so here I go I mean I’m grateful to them for having an open enough mind to maybe perhaps get around the mainstream media verdict of me and to explore me on their own but it’s been the most exciting exhausting two weeks of probably my entire political career.

55:19 Brian Rose: And you say that with a smile and a laugh and what kind of numbers are we talking about here like you know you made the New York Times bestseller list and you’re selling you know six figures of books on Amazon and like what are some of the numbers.

55:27 Candace Owens: I can’t wait to figure out my week two numbers but in week one in the first 24 hours Amazon ran out of their 90 000 copies that they had ordered so we had sold 100 000 copies in the first 24 hours which was amazing and then by the end of the first week we which stops like my book came out of Tuesday they stopped calculating first week on a Saturday we had sold over 140 000 copies and so now today is when I get to figure out what week two is so I’m pretty excited to see what where the numbers are at but it was yeah they said it was considered a blockbuster book and I did it without any bulk buying from any groups which is why I was so annoyed that New York Times did this petty thing and gave me a dagger for doing a lot a live signing and signing copies with like my signature in it so of the books 800 of them got purchased from premiere.

56:30 Candace Owens: Books which they signed like live copies and they decided to dagger and pretend it was bulk buys now people are saying the GOP purchased her books not a single GOP group purchased my books the RNC didn’t purchase my books those were real people who bought every single one of my books and it’s just it’s a major accomplishment so we’ll see where we’re going but I want to sell a million copies so gotta get to work.

56:53 Brian Rose: Well at this rate you might I mean what does this mean Candace does this mean that the narrative is changing does it mean people are open-minded to this I mean you also have a feel for what you’re seeing on social media I’m sure you see a lot of nasty stuff but do you think there are people considering your point of view more than ever.

57:09 Candace Owens: They are you know left spent so much time trying to destroy me and I have the number two book in the country and I passed Obama’s book and that makes them nervous because black Americans there’s more chatter in black America than there’s ever been in politics when I first arrived on the scene they wanted me dead it was just like oh another race traitor another this another Uncle Tom another all these horrible racial slurs and now there’s an entire army of black Americans behind me and I have BLEXIT my organization we are in 25 states now I mean that’s crazy we’re in 25 states in inner cities run by black leaders chapter leaders getting out the word about black thoughts and black ideas and we’re seeing that black people that are cutting through the narrative and saying that this is all bs and if you care about black lives here’s what you need to know so I think this is probably the most exciting time that there’s ever been to be a black conservative in this country and I hope that the shift was as I intended it.

58:14 Candace Owens: And that if there’s just a shift in the attitude about black conservatives because I think in the past there was a certain decorum which wasn’t a bad thing but a lot of these people sort of took the insult sitting down the Condoleezza rices you know the Clarence Williams the Dr Ben Carson’s they sort of they’re so intellectual that they wouldn’t even honor half of the stuff with the response but I respond I don’t just take it sitting down when Cardi B says something about my husband or says something about me or what I must be I take her to task and I think that has been important for black people black moderates to see that this is not you know that black conservatism you might be used to like you know we’re gonna defend ourselves we have something to say back and the facts and the truth are on our side.

58:56 Brian Rose: Yeah it’s true those people you mentioned they do kind of they take it sitting down they keep living their incredible lives with their own principles but you know like you said Condoleezza didn’t fight back like you or Clarence didn’t like you know but there was no one like you before so I guess this is the going for the jugular.

59:13 Candace Owens: Yeah because I have a right to exist it’s that simple I have a right to exist and I’m not gonna have somebody tell me who or what I am or where my heart is because it’s been it’s been fashionable in the past it’s no longer fashionable anymore so I’ve changed that.

59:38 Brian Rose: Yeah look I don’t want to go through the whole book it’s 11 chapters and needless to say you know everybody should go buy it and get the Audible get them both but there’s a couple things I wanted to ask you about in the book you know you talk about conservatism and you know something you taught me about I didn’t realize that the party that you know abolished slavery was the Republican party and so this is me growing up in America learning American history and you’re educating me that’s that was actually you know not what I thought I just assumed it was a Democrat party and you’re actually educating people on what conservatism is and why it can and should be embraced by the black community can you speak on that briefly and maybe you know dispel some things that people might not know about it.

1:00:16 Candace Owens: Yeah it’s ironic when the party that is able to call everybody a racist is actually the party that you know first enslaved black Americans then segregated black Americans and fought every civil rights progress for black Americans to end Jim Crow laws and people don’t know this because it’s been essentially whitewashed out of history books the party of the Klansmen they were they were Democrats it was started by Democrats trying to pursue what was the lost cause of the South and trying to make sure Union troops were out of there and not protecting black rights and people don’t know this because Democrats have very carefully just kind of rinse their history in the books they did they will tell you LBJ you know I talk about him a lot in my book signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but leave out the fact that he was an avowed racist who hated black people and basically had to sign that bill with a gun to his head and you need but look at his record in the Senate for 20 years voting in the southern bloc against every single major black piece of legislation that was put.

1:01:23 Candace Owens: On the table to give us agency he voted against it he was he was a proud racist actually and there are still LBJ tapes out that you can listen to and you can see how much he says the n word and you can understand exactly what he thought about us and Democrats teach students that he was their hero because he inked the civil rights bill because there were protests in America was burning and he basically had to and no sooner did he do that then he put in place another form of slavery via the Great Society act and welfare benefits and he purposefully in Machiavellian and by Machiavelli design sought to break down the black family and everything sort of starts here with the Democrat party in black America and where we are today breaking down the family making sure they control the education system department of education should be abolished teaching black Americans not how to read or write you know we have a massive epidemic right now black children who can’t be can’t pass a basic literacy and basic mathematic exams especially black boys I should say and yet these kids can.

1:02:26 Candace Owens: Tell you about white privilege and Black Lives Matter and why you know the white man is evil and that’s all by design because just as in the times of slavery the Democrats know that an educated mind can’t be enslaved so they’ve attacked our education system they’ve given us false idols like LeBron James and Cardi B and tell us to aspire toward that and at the same time they train us to attack those within our own community that aspire towards academic success I tell in one of the chapters I think on education about when I was growing up because I tested high on state exams and I was placed in all white class you know it was the highest class in the school but everyone was white there was only one other black person in the class and so naturally I was friends with white people in my class because they were in my classes and I remember being bullied by black girls that would push me into lockers and call me names because I spoke proper English and because I spoke proper English I was accused of acting white this is a cultural issue and a curse that we have in our community that plagues our community that we treat academic success as a cultural failure where we bully kids that want to do well.

1:03:29 Candace Owens: In school when we call Condoleezza Rice a race traitor despite all remarkable accomplishments and yet we say look we call LeBron James a king we call him a king we call Beyonce a queen and we dismiss people like Clarence Williams these I’m Clarence Thomas pardon these are the things that I’m talking about we have a major culture problem in black America and we also have a system or a tornado rather of white guilt that surrounds us at all times that this allows us to break through this allows us to actually get better and fix issues in our community because the moment that an issue is identified we are never called we are never considered the culprits of that issue there’s this idea this concept of black blamelessness that there is no such thing as black culpability and there’s tons of black culpability if you if you’re actually concerned about saving black lives and you have to talk about why black men are killing black men because that’s the biggest contributor to the death of black lives other black people and when you say that people go well white people kill white people too yes but white people aren’t blaming black people.

1:04:36 Candace Owens: For the death of white lives that’s the difference is that they don’t remove their own culpability they don’t celebrate the they celebrate the criminals of their community they don’t tease people for being smart and these are all things that if we don’t as a community have the courage because it takes courage to talk about honestly it’s never going to get fixed.

1:04:51 Brian Rose: Yeah and the family structure as well you said we’re turning into a society of baby mamas I mean that whole lacking that man in the family structure is a massive problem.

1:05:07 Candace Owens: Yeah it went from a Democrat policy in the 1960s mid-1960s to now being glorified by the Cardi B’s and the you know the entertainers of the world like you know the baby mama drama you listen to rap music they talk about their multiple mamas and now it’s like it’s a sign of almost a symbol of status how many baby mamas you have and not waking up every day and doing what you have to do as a man and so this sort of devaluing of men that we’re seeing within the black community but also outside of it and I talk about how this issue has moved from a black experimentation they successfully broke down black culture black family black values and now we’re seeing the left from the Democrat party try to do that on a mass scale right and you’re trying I mean you talk about the breakdown of family you talk about the LGBT agenda right trans everything kids can pick their gender men can be women and women can be men and to telling kids it’s okay to mutilate their bodies at a young age because they were born into the wrong skin although you’re you’re actually feeding them that propaganda at a young.

1:06:10 Candace Owens: Age you know what I mean you know seeing a trans child is like seeing a vegan cat you know who’s making the decisions you know my dog’s a vegan no your dog’s not a vegan sorry your dog is not a vegan but I appreciate you playing the game and that’s sort of where we’re at right now in society where you’re trying to give pretend that children are having the authority to make these sorts of decisions the radicalized feminist movement these I attack all this in my book what is that if not the breakdown of family men women don’t need men you know men are horrible and chauvinistic and we shouldn’t be we can do it all by ourselves we’re talking about the breakdown of family right a mutilated person cannot give birth a woman without a man cannot raise a stable family and all of this if you look at the one thing that connects all of these various radicalized movements it’s that ultimately it plays out as an attack on the family unit.

1:07:06 Brian Rose: Right and the whole socialism welfare state is also just makes it worse because people are looking for that extra what’s the government going to give me and do for me and it seems like what you want to fight for but actually that’s perpetuating the problem even more right.

1:07:21 Candace Owens: The government is trying to replace mom and dad and God and that was a part of Karl Marx’s principles and of course these kids are not learning about who Karl Marx was there’s learning that socialism is like candy and it’s going to be great they don’t understand who Karl Marx was why he hated the idea of a nuclear family and why you know he wrote that this is something that needed to be attacked and why when his system was implemented you know when Vladimir Lenin implanted the system they did attack the family they did attack religion these things were not allowed to exist and I talked about that in my book there’s a reason for that in order for government to grow and become omnipotent and omniscient in your lives there cannot be anything stable around you they need to turn you into a selfish narcissistic individualistic you know human being and that starts with destroying the fabric of the family and destroying any tenets of faith.

1:08:13 Brian Rose: And you also have a whole chapter on faith you know again the more I talk to say people like you and when I talk to people that are really in the intelligent conservative movement in America the more I understand that I guess religion was a it was a major part of the fabric of the Founding Fathers right they kind of knew that only with that in place could we do all these other things and like you said when you involve the Marxism in there almost the religion has to be replaced by the state and by other things talk a little bit more about faith especially to the younger generation like when I grew up nobody was pushing faith on me I know you had some religious grandparents and stuff but when I grew up faith wasn’t cool anymore right you know it was like it was not cool and it was bad it was something your grandpa did and but you know talk to it talk to me or talk to people about it that grew up with that and how can they understand how it’s important.

1:09:08 Candace Owens: Well I actually totally empathize with faith not being cool because I did everything to rinse myself from my from my family’s faith I was embarrassed by it I was embarrassed that my grandfather would make us read the Bible every morning and I talked about that and everything was worked into a prayer if we did something wrong my grandfather would pray and when I got into school and I wanted to be more secular and more cool the first thing you do is get rid of faith you don’t want to be one of those weird kids we don’t want to be a Bible freak you know in high school and so I thought and this is sort of what turned me towards liberalism is that I thought that it was liberating to remove yourself from the bondage or the perceived bondage of faith and family and structure right like you could be free if you didn’t have to think like this or do these things and I think that’s appealing to the youth it’s why you the youth is infinitely more liberal more leftist because they believe at the same time that you’re kind of biologically going through this thing right like I just want to be on my own and you’re kind of being introduced to all these concepts that make you think that you’re finding individual.

1:10:11 Candace Owens: Freedom and what I’ve tried to do was tell people understand and that actually those things that you’re learning by society by a secular society like more freedom for women to take your clothes off right you see that now in Hollywood if you express yourself you know they take their bras off on Instagram there’s the Free the Nipple campaign and all of these women who say I’m naked and that’s you know and I can because I can be naked I’m somehow freer well actually it doesn’t render you free or that renders you a slave in order to be seen or to be heard or to be listened to you take your clothes off you’re you’re actually a slave and trust me the patriarchy doesn’t mind you know so if you’re going to be naked you’re not empowering yourself against men you’re diminishing yourself and all of these things and I tell people you don’t need to be religious to learn something from the Bible so don’t think that I know like some people oh maybe they don’t go to church every Sunday maybe that’s not their thing but you can still read the Bible and realize that there’s a reason this is the most debated burned of all time a book of all time right this is a book.

1:11:14 Candace Owens: That has been censored there this book has gone through so much to exist right and it still is it’s still hotly contested and debated in the world today why I mean you pick up a Bible and it’s telling you things that are timeless read the Bible objectively don’t read it as if you’re like hey I don’t I don’t do religion don’t we just read it objectively about what it is teaching you about things to avoid in this world I mean a recent lesson that I realized my goodness idolatry the Bible talks all the time about idolatry and how it’s it’s satanic and now I look at Hollywood and I think of I used to be obsessed with this celebrity and I would have been that person that Taylor Swift says don’t vote Democrats so I can’t vote Democrat that’s what the Bible is teaching you about false idols right that can lead you to do something on the basis of nothing right other than LeBron James ah we’re all getting hunted and you go out and you believe that and you ruin your own life because you’ve fallen victim to this person that has been idolized and put up on a platform so for me running away from the religion and then coming back and realizing wait a second but last time I remember my life being structured in my life making.

1:12:20 Candace Owens: Sense the last time I felt like I was a happy individual was when I when I had these restrictions in my life when I had to wake up and read the Bible with granddad and I missed it I just woke up with it and I missed it and then my life got infinitely better when I reintroduced all of these restrictions and suddenly I got freer when I suddenly reintroduced all of these restrictions and then I realized that these aren’t restrictions at all these are guidelines to help you get through in a life that is incredibly complicated and incredibly complex and I still I have regrets about things that I wish that I had taken those lessons earlier I wish that I had remained faithful and had really appreciated what the Bible was trying to help me and guide me with but you know I took a very liberal route to conservatism I made tons of mistakes in my youth and but I hope that it makes me those mistakes I made makes me a better spokesperson for my beliefs because I’m not here to judge people I’m just here to tell you that if you continue that route you will end up miserable if you really believe in the doctrines of feminism that you can do.

1:13:23 Candace Owens: Without a man and you will wake up one day you will have you know your life around you will be absolutely miserable because we were designed to be together the nuclear family there’s something spiritual and godly and godlike about that and you know all of these various paths are now being introduced Marxism it’s it’s antithetical to living a happy life.

1:13:39 Brian Rose: Yeah you know it’s it’s it’s I think it’s very important that you did experience all the other stuff as well you know because if you had told me this by being religious all your life it would be harder for me to believe your observations about it and I’ve been I’ve been blessed to have a lot of interesting people talk to me about religion on the show and I’ve started to see it in a different way I start to see religion as honestly human technology that was developed over thousands of years to make a better society you know like you said all these strange rules and I had a an englishman here named Dr Rupert Sheldrake who wrote a book called Science and Spiritual Practices and he went through all these spiritual practices that we threw out with religion the baby with the bathwater like congregating like singing together like fasting pilgrimage all of these things that religion has you do that now we’re missing because we don’t do that stuff anymore like you said those quote unquote restrictions that we would have that actually allowed us to live more sensible lives and to throw all that out it’s kind of.

1:14:43 Brian Rose: Crazy even Jordan Peterson said these stories in the Bible are in our DNA he’s like Cain and Abel is in our DNA because it teaches us a parable on how to live our life better and will live a happier life with these lessons and I remember hearing that from him and when you sit down with Jordan he really seems like a Southern Baptist preacher his vibe you know I’m sure you met him and so I’m like whoa this is intense but when he starts saying that and you think about it you’re like there’s more to religion than what I thought it was when it was a kid you know.

1:15:08 Candace Owens: Yeah in many ways we’ve all we’ve all been dissuaded against it because of the secular viewpoint of it as being this constraining horrible you know institution of course like we talking about the difference between you know the church and the Bible right so there are many people that are just like I believe the Bible but when you know whenever anything gets institutionalized you can look into the history and it has its flaws and people sort of use that to say well this is why it doesn’t work but I am saying that for people that feel that way strictly just the Bible is enough you know to really guide you and to make you understand that this stuff is timeless there’s a reason that this book you know exists there’s a reason why it’s been so hated and contested and debated and burned and banned so many countries because there is an incontrovertible truth that exists in each of its pages.

1:15:57 Brian Rose: Yeah well indeed you know just to finish with the book I mean in essence I think it’s asking people not to be victims which is easier said than done I know you’ve had Jocko Willink on the show we’ve had him here a few times and he has this concept called Extreme Ownership and you know that is all about trying to step out of it and say how could this be my fault as a thought exercise what if everything’s my fault as opposed to nothing’s my fault and then let’s try to work somewhere back from there you know if you’ve got a final message about the book like how do people get their head around that when they’ve been taught their whole lives that they are victims and it’s the easiest thing to be a victim and you know it’s the easiest explanation for like you said when you went to get Starbucks there’s five people that rubbed you the wrong way it’s easy to grab that narrative how can people start to change that in themselves.

1:16:46 Candace Owens: You know I say it just starts with trying it on for one day two day I try it on like it’s a new diet you know what I mean a new diet a new fad this I mean there’s so many things that you try for a week oh I’m gonna try this new workout program for a week see if it works for me just try not being a victim try walking into the world with the perspective like I did when I first experimented with it and I said the world is not happening to Candace Owens, Candace Owens is happening to the world that was that was the repeat phrase that I said in my head what if the world is not happening to Candace Owens, Candace Owens is happening to the world prior to it was oh this is not fair this is unfair this is unfair it’s not right it’s all these things and I was like okay but maybe it’s maybe it’s me maybe I can I can shape myself in this world it’s once you do it and I’m telling you instantly you realize how much better your life gets and you feel like a weight has been lifted off your shoulders and you will feel like a light has been restored because you’re no longer required to see misery in everything that’s that’s what personal responsibility is you’re no longer required to see misery and everything you get to have a positive perspective you get to say okay maybe I didn’t do that right today but I’m going to nail.

1:17:53 Candace Owens: It tomorrow right I can do better I can be better your whole world view your whole spirit fills up fills up with this sense of positivity that’s the thing about personal responsibility it doesn’t sound good doesn’t sound sexy but boy does it feel good right like every day saying I can set new goals I got there are new heights that I can climb that’s the product that I’m selling to you and the left is telling you the opposite that you got to absolve responsibility and you don’t realize it in the process you’re becoming miserable because every everywhere you wake up you have to see injustice what a horrible way to see the world through the lens of those rose-colored glasses to see injustice practically everywhere and you don’t realize that it is weighing on you every single day in and day out so I have no doubt that if you just try it right try saying maybe you’re a person that hates Trump supporters try going to a Trump rally and talking to the people there and genuinely just saying I’m going to sit in the room and I’m going to try to enjoy these people and speak to them the love that you will feel in that room because that is literally the conversion story of the gentleman that I brought up.

1:18:59 Candace Owens: Earlier Brandon Tatum he was the Bernie supporter and decided to just go to a Trump rally and he couldn’t believe that what was uniting those people in that room wasn’t hatred wasn’t race wasn’t sexism it was patriotism this shared concept an idea an American a philosophy that saw beyond race beyond color saw beyond gender saw beyond sexuality that allowed them all to sit in the room and bro out and murk you know red white and blue murk and it transformed him and so I always say put yourself in a position that makes you feel uncomfortable try saying you’re gonna be better every day and then seeing how much better you feel when that is your world view as opposed to the other way.

1:19:40 Brian Rose: Yeah really well said I’ve had a guest on here that says life isn’t happening to you life is happening for you and everything put in front of you is a chance for you to grow and the problem with being the victim is that in the short term it feels good and you like you said you might get the check from the government but your subconscious it knows and you lose a little bit of respect for yourself every time you cop out to that narrative and you don’t step up and do the right thing and if you do that enough times you don’t respect yourself anymore and you can’t fool yourself it always knows whether you stood up and did the right thing and made the hard decision so yeah it does pay off if you can do that and I like that advice as well look you brought Trump up what is your read on this election there’s not many days left you’ve got you know Biden and your old friend Kamala on one side and Trump on the other what are your thoughts.

1:20:35 Candace Owens: My thoughts are the Democrats are running a mail-in ballot scheme they’ve got tons of ballots they’re going to find after Trump wins in a landslide they’re gonna say oh well the election’s not done and they’re gonna have the full power of Facebook Twitter if everyone’s saying the election’s not counted yet that’s just why they’re holding on to this COVID-19 narrative and then they are going to say they found a bunch of ballots and then this is going to be a court fight Trump in the end is going to win and you know they’re going to burn America until inauguration day probably through inauguration day before things calm down again but Trump is going to win because he’s winning and that Biden can’t even sell out a cafeteria that’s why they’re hiding their candidate he’s he’s not well liked he’s not well respected and they’re creating essentially what is an illusion that this is a competitive race when they know it’s not they’re already calling it the red mirage so left saying that their you know their data and their polling shows them that it’s going to look like Trump’s going to win a landslide but in reality Joe Biden’s going to win which is their way of saying that they’re prepping for this they’re prepping to.

1:21:39 Candace Owens: Take this fight all the way through the courts and I think that everyone acknowledges that and realizes that we’re not going to be able to breathe a sigh of relief on November 3rd and you know we’re in it for the long haul but in the end we will win because we’re on the side of truth in the side of light and they are on the side of darkness and in a in a battle between God and Satan I’m glad I’m on the side of God not a reference to Trump generally God in society I mean you predicted Trump will secure 20 of the black vote in November do you still stand by that still stand by and now the polls are showing that and I just cannot wait to dunk on everyone and say you laughed at me for three years and here we are so 20 points in 2020 is what I’ve always said.

1:22:11 Brian Rose: If he gets that 20 percent does he win.

1:22:20 Candace Owens: Almost by I win do I get something do I get a Nobel Peace Prize or not we’ll see but he will win if he gets that vote.

1:22:27 Brian Rose: It’s almost like then he will win as well right.

1:22:27 Candace Owens: Yeah he will that’s exactly why they’re they’re really starting to hyper focus on the race stuff because they’re terrified.

1:22:35 Brian Rose: Okay and it’s but it’s gonna burn there for a couple months and you’re in DC for God’s sakes so I mean are you gonna batten down the hatches how bad’s it gonna get.

1:22:44 Candace Owens: It’s gonna be fun when I’m in Hampshire sitting on the countryside watching things from a tv screen because I got an English husband I can I can watch from afar if I need to I will be very pregnant so you will not see me on the ground fighting I mean I’m six and a half months now so I will be properly pregnant so I’m not you I’m not going to be you know in an inner city at that time I can guarantee you that.

1:23:08 Brian Rose: Okay and lessons from motherhood I mean obviously like you said you’re going to be a mom soon and how you feel now you know what’s what surprised you about this whole experience that you wouldn’t have saw coming.

1:23:17 Candace Owens: I hate to say this I know there are so many moms watching this but I’ve had the easiest pregnancy in the entire.
