1:06 This is London Real, I am Brian Rose. My guest today is Brian Pybus, recent graduate of our Life Accelerator. Welcome. Thank you, thank you. Tell us about you. Where are you from, what do you do? I’m originally from Florida, and I own my own business. I’m a CPA and I have a practice in South Florida. Okay, and you made this long trip, first trip to London, to come here for graduation, just for you.
1:33 I’m curious, what’s it like being in London for the first time? It was overwhelming to come in, not sleeping, and just arrive in the middle of the city and try to get my bearings straight. Yeah, well, it’s gonna get better from here, we’re gonna have a great time. So tell me what was going on with you in your life, outside of you, externally and internally, that made you find us for the Life Accelerator?
2:05 Well, externally it’s just life, right? Like, we all have wife, kids, business and that kind of stuff, the daily routine grinding me out, right, and me just not taking control of that routine and making a world-class life out of it. And the thing that really hit home for me was kind of the feeling that this is not where I wanted to end, right? I think you put it in the first call: a lot of people just want to slip into the grave quietly, right? Yeah. And it’s so true, and it’s amazing.
2:45 And that was my inner feeling, not verbalised at that moment, but I had started to make some changes prior to even me getting on that phone call with you, or that Zoom call, and then it was the trigger, like, here’s the fast track. Brian Rose is the fast track to getting this done. Instead of me trying to reinvent myself and making all those mistakes, I’m gonna do… this guy says he’s doing it, he wants me to do it, he’s calling me out, and boom, that’s the decision.
3:17 Yeah, I still remember you on that Zoom, and looking at you, it looked like you wanted to make a change. Yeah. It looked like you’d kind of got to the point where you’re like, you know what, it’s time to take care of this. Yeah. Why London Real? Originally, I think the Dan Peña videos. It is what it is, those are great videos, great interviews, and I connected with both of you guys, and when I saw that there was a program that you were involved in, that made it easy.
3:53 Okay, so something I was teaching, you liked all of those habits? Yeah, and I was very interested in the Business Accelerator, but I just, I mean, and I know maybe this isn’t the right way to look at it, but I wanted to get this other, my life stuff, under control. Yeah, you know, it’s funny, the Business Accelerator was our first course in the Academy, and it’s eight weeks, and it’s incredible. I mean, we’ve gotten so good at teaching this, the results we get are amazing.
4:17 But I always say it’s more of a Life Accelerator too, because in business you have to confront a lot of your fears, or a lot of your issues with leadership and being humble and listening to your customers, but the Life Accelerator is pure dealing with all of your own issues. Yeah. And I always tell my Business Accelerator students, if you take the Life Accelerator first, you’re just gonna crush it, because the Business Accelerator, if you’re doing both at the same time, you’re doing business and the personal demons come out. Yeah, but I’d like to think that after doing the Life Accelerator you are just kind of getting more bulletproof.
4:50 You need to handle a lot of things. So let me ask you, you pull the trigger, you jump in, I throw you in with this group of people from all around the world, I’m asking you to do a lot of weird and new things and habits. You’ve got live calls coming at you twice a week, we got this accountability doc, which, it’s hard being accountable to all these tasks. What’s it like, those first two weeks?
5:16 It was very overwhelming. The accountability doc was huge, and that was part of the reason I decided to do it, just when I saw that word, and you’d mentioned it in the call and I had seen it on your website, and that interested me, because I did not want to just experience a lesson from you once or twice a week with a group and then that was it. I wanted something firm, that I was working on it and it was being checked, right? So that the excuses kind of go away and I have to get that stuff done. So that was huge.
5:57 The experiences themselves were, to me, I didn’t get it, I’m all right, I’m gonna do this, but the product of that was truly amazing, right? I didn’t realise, by meditating each day, that my mind was gonna start to work differently. I just couldn’t understand that. Yeah, it’s not obvious. It’s not obvious. I was already experimenting with my diet and my nutrition, but your approach was, I never would have dreamed of doing something like that, and it turned me on to some things that I’m still doing and having a lot of success with.
6:32 And the relationship was just mind-blowing, because when we entered into that, I really thought you’d just lost me at that point, right? There’s no way that this is going to affect me, and it was the total opposite. Can you talk more about that? Well, I think it was me putting myself in that framework for that week. You start to look at things differently, and you start to see things that were there but you never really saw them in that way and experienced them, in your relationships.
7:11 And when you said forgive somebody, I didn’t think I had anybody to forgive, but then they all started coming into my mind, and what I did, forgive and do that, it was amazing what happened. What was the shift in you? Well, one thing for sure, and it’s like this with every week that we had in the six weeks: yes, we did our work in that week and I completed my task, but what I realised is it’s just one way, there’s a whole lifetime of it.
7:37 So I mean, I look, not daily but almost daily, in forgiving people, and it’s a totally different mindset. I don’t think I could have done it by just being told, you need to forgive people because it’s going to help you. It’s doing that work that we did and thinking that way while you’re doing the meditation, while you’re doing the movements and everything else, that opens you up to that. That’s the way I see it.
8:04 Yeah, it all becomes additive. So those last couple weeks it’s like, whoa, I mean, you’re taking a month now and you’re looking at things different, and your media’s dropped, and the gratitude, and yeah, it’s these small steps that start to become additive, and you can probably see if you continue them for the next 12 months, I mean, really, none of your friends and family will even recognise you. No, it’s powerful. We were just talking about it, I can’t even imagine being able to practise that six-week course over and over again.
8:36 I mean, I can’t even, I thought that I trusted that this was gonna be useful, I didn’t realise how useful it was gonna be, and that was six weeks. Wow. What did you struggle with the most, what was the hardest thing on this course? Well, it’s always been, for me, in my adult life, since 30-ish, and having a sedentary job, it’s just the weight, and allowing that to get out of control. And I don’t want to say that’s the hardest, but that is my biggest issue.
9:07 Okay, and so what’s it like when I’m asking you to move in weird ways, and then the dynamic module, all that? I didn’t like it, I liked it, because it brought that out to the forefront, right? No more just thinking about what I’m gonna do; now it’s doing it. Was there a movement pattern that you liked the least, or that maybe surprised you, that wasn’t as bad? Oh, burpees. Okay. I mean, I literally couldn’t do them. Burpees are hard, man.
9:40 Yeah, well, yeah, but I’ve done all that stuff, right? I mean, in my prior life. So that was like, wow, I can’t do this. Like, this is no longer a thought, right? This is actually happening and I need to deal with this. Okay, so it’s like a wake-up call, a little bit painful, but it shows you you need to be able to do this if you want to. Yeah, right. Yeah, no, I did a bunch of burpees down in Costa Rica and I was surprised how hard they were. It’s still hard.
10:03 What about some of those other movements, dancing? Yeah, I’m probably gonna work on that one. What about like a yoga practice, something like that? I love yoga. Oh, I love it, love it, love it. Okay, great. That’s powerful to keep up, because that works on the brain a lot. Yep, it’s great for the brain, and I do hot yoga, Bikram, and it’s just, I mean, when I’m doing that, it’s the best. That’s no joke.
10:36 Biggest win for you on this course? What’s something you’re most proud of? Wow. Well, number one, completing it, and number two, not just completing it, but having this mindset that this is just the beginning. Okay. So I mean, I’m just gonna use weight loss as an example, because always it was always getting to a barrier or a plateau and then caving, right? So I’ve already had like two or three plateaus and gotten beyond them, right?
11:08 So now it’s a long-term mindset with all of them, whether it’s my financial, personal, family, spiritual, and it’s a completely different way of looking at my life and how to make it better, a better version of me. Yeah, I mean, we just try to have these long-term mindsets with some daily practices, and it’s amazing. I think Tony Robbins once said we’re all very hard on ourselves in the short term and we don’t actually give ourselves enough credit in the long run, and if you stick to these practices, you will blow yourself away.
11:43 Yeah. What’s this community like, and what do these people mean to you, and how do you anticipate them being a part of your life in the next 12 months? Well, I think that we’re all committed to doing this for 12 months, our team, and I think no matter where we’re at, everybody’s at a different level, and we all know that going through the six-week course, but we all have something to give and something to take from each other, regardless of where we’re at. Yeah, and that’s the truth.
12:15 Tell me about you. If we went down to central London and bumped into the Brian that didn’t take this course, how’s that guy different than you? That guy would put up a decent front, likeable person, but not achieving nearly what the potential is. What do your wife and kids say about you? Well, they were gone the last three weeks. Okay, of this course. I think your dad was more crazy. No, yeah, yeah. But my wife is super supportive and excited.
12:56 Okay, so they haven’t seen you the last three weeks of course. No. Do you think they’ll notice the change? Oh yeah, they’ll notice. How will they know it, what will they see? Well, right before we left, I mean, normally it would be work, work, work, and then go on a trip or something, but I just shut it down, took a day off just with them, totally different than what I would have done in the past, right? And they see that.
13:20 Yeah, well, they see that, man. Yeah, they know. The kids are like that, and probably husbands and wives, like, they know the time you log, and the price doesn’t matter and the dust doesn’t matter, it’s like time. Yeah, time, and they can feel that. That’s one of my family goals. Good man. Be present. Good man.
13:36 For someone who’s watching us who thinks we’re crazy talking about this stuff, but is thinking about taking this course, what would you tell them if they’re unsure? No doubt, just do it. You have to experience it to understand the life-changing values and habits you can build by just taking that one step, right? And knowing that you want to make your life better, knowing that you’re probably not where you want to be, whoever you are, and saying, okay, Brian Rose has a formula.
14:15 The MIT engineer, as Forbes… But yeah, General Dan Peña makes fun of me being an engineer, but yeah, like, all I did was live this life of London Real, and then I woke up one day and said, whoa, you’re different, like really different. You know, you’re happier, you’re more connected, you’re just doing what you love. And then I looked and I said, wow, okay, that guy taught me this, and Ido taught me how to move, and Dan Peña taught me affirmations, of all things, and Tim Ferriss taught me low media diet, and [unclear] taught me gratitude.
14:46 And now, wait a second, there’s 18 high-performance habits here, and we can engineer it and get other people to do it. And you wouldn’t understand, no, but when you string it all together, it’s now you see why Dan Peña is Dan Peña. Yeah, he strings together these high-performance habits, and it’s not like he’s more special, he just does them every day, every day, every day, and he’s been doing it for 30, 40 years. Yeah, and he’s surrounded by people that are doing it too, right? And that’s it. It’s that simple, folks, it really is that simple.
15:17 And two graduates from this very first course of Life Accelerator are part of the team here at London Real, and it changed their lives. They’re incredible team leaders here. I mean, it’s just completely altered their life, another part of this whole thing. So I believe it’s powerful. Brian, you went all in, and I just want to thank you for that, because I know when you look on the surface, you’re like, you really had to trust me in the process. So thank you. I can see the changes it had on you.
15:42 You’re also part of my Inner Circle, so for the next six months we’re actually going to be taking it to the next level, and what we do, these things called BHAGs, which are big hairy audacious goals, and we’re around a group of people that really think big, and so in our personal life, family, physical and then work goals. And so you’d be part of this really small, exclusive group, and I can’t wait to work with you. Thank you, I’m gonna give it a go.
16:07 So, well, good, the next 12 months, you got your goals, you got your calls, I’m expecting some big things from you, Brian. Absolutely, I’ll be sitting here again. All right, good. We got a 5K run tonight in the heat in London, we’re gonna push through it, it’s gonna be a great experience, and they say it’s about the journey, Brian. So let’s do this. Thank you, thank you, sir. Appreciate it. Thanks.
