Full transcript: America Is Not A Racist Nation
2:38 Brian Rose: This is London Real. I am Brian Rose. My guest today is Dennis Prager, the American broadcaster, author, and political commentator. You have been a radio talk show host for 40 years and consistently speak out against threats to our democracy from the left, the damaging influence of mainstream media, and challenges to American ideals. You launched PragerU in 2009 to create short form videos that distill ideas on philosophy, economics, and American values. Your guest speakers include Jordan Peterson, Candace Owens, Steve Forbes, and Ben Shapiro. To date, PragerU has received over three and a half billion views with over 1 billion in the last year alone. You regularly appear on television for Fox, CBS, and NBC to discuss your uncompromising views on politics, religion, and liberty.
3:18 Brian Rose: Dennis, welcome to London Real.

For anybody wanting to become a founding member of the digital freedom platform, they can visit freedomplatform.tv to donate and fight with us on the front lines to protect our human rights. Here at London Real, we’ve been a platform for free speech since 2011. And Dennis, I’m super excited to have you here today. Maybe we start and talk a little bit about censorship. It’s something you’re no stranger to. I know you had your own beef with YouTube in 2017. You know, to be honest, Dennis, for nine years, I broadcasted conversations here in this studio with no problem. But on April 6th, I became persona non grata with YouTube and almost lost my entire channel, 8,000 videos, quarter of a billion views, and I’ve had to kind of play nice just to stay on that platform.
4:59 Brian Rose: What are your thoughts on censorship, YouTube, and what’s been happening these last few months?
4:59 Dennis Prager: I have been a student of the left since graduate school at Columbia University, I was at the Russian Institute and my field of study which it’s funny when communism collapsed in the Soviet Union and East Europe, I thought, “Oh boy, am I lucky I didn’t go into this field because it would be pretty much a non field.” But it was called Communist Affairs. I studied under Brzezinski who became national security adviser to Jimmy Carter. I read Pravda every day. I and I didn’t think that knowing the left so well would unfortunately equip me to understand what’s happening in America and the rest of the West, but especially the English-speaking countries for whatever reason.
5:50 Dennis Prager: And I don’t know, but it’s just the case. And it did. It equipped me to understand it. So the first thing that people need to understand is the left is always against free speech. There is no exception since Lenin. No exception. Liberals are pro-free speech. I draw a distinction between liberal and left. Liberals vote left because they’re foolish and cowardly, but they but they are not leftists.
6:27 Dennis Prager: Liberals believe in free speech, leftists do not. And this is par for the course. What they are doing at universities to shut down conservative speakers. What they are doing at YouTube and Google which is owned by which owns YouTube and Twitter and so on. This is all normative on the left. They do not debate. They shut down. So that’s what’s happening in a nutshell.
7:00 Brian Rose: Dennis, when you say the left, what’s a what I mean, how would you define that even further? Is that Marxists? Like, because you made a great separation between liberals and left, and I appreciate that. Maybe we go even deeper on that, but how do you describe the left? Because it’s a term I hear you use a lot. Candace uses it a lot, but how would you articulate for someone that doesn’t know exactly what that means?
7:25 Dennis Prager: The left is known by its positions. The truth is the left does not have a philosophy of life. The left and this took me a lifetime to realize if you say what do you stand for? I mean they’ll say equality, justice, social justice, it’s all pablum. So what they really stand for is chaos. And it took me literally a lifetime to realize that. That’s why it’s so hard to define the left. I know what liberals stand for. I know what conservatives stands for stand for.
8:02 Dennis Prager: But what the left stands for is really to tear down. That’s all the left has ever known to do. And it and it does it. It tears down. I just played on my radio show in America today a councilwoman in Seattle, the city council of Seattle. We want to tear down all of this system of oppression and we will have a new a new America. And that’s what it is. It’s always Look, Barack Obama said it five days before he was elected in 2008. I played this on my show his entire eight years in office.
8:42 Dennis Prager: We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America. That’s what they know how to do is fundamentally transform. Look the one of the great examples. This is the key to chaos. A biological male can compete in a in a race against a biological excuse me a biological female. That’s chaos. There’s no common sense. There’s no even idealism behind it. I have a male body and I can So in Connecticut, the US state of Connecticut, almost every high school record in track is owned by a transgender female.
9:28 Dennis Prager: In other words, a biological male who is cheating. This is called cheating. It’s like taking steroids. It’s cheating. They if you can’t call that cheating, you’re a leftist. Liberals understand it’s cheating. Leftists think it’s noble. Tearing down a male female distinction, announcing they announce men menstruate. That’s chaos. So would a 10 years ago if you would have said to a leftist, “Do men menstruate?” They would have thought you’re out of your mind. But as soon as it becomes a policy, by golly, then the chaos reigns.
10:08 Dennis Prager: So they want to destroy that. That’s all that I could say. That’s definite.
10:21 Brian Rose: Okay. So they want to tear down everything that currently exists and put up something else because it’s wrong. So we have to tear it down and that’s what we see them doing now. What percentage of Americans are actually on the left? Is it a tiny minority that’s controlling the conversation?
10:37 Dennis Prager: Look the truth is the more people graduate there the college the more you will have because now high school as well schools are no longer education centers they’re indoctrination centers I would not send my kid to a school today in America I would homeschool my child or if I found a religious school that did not develop leftism as its core I would send them there. But it’s this is the this is the tragedy. So the more people who graduate college or or even now high school, the more leftists you will have and the more secular this is a big factor that secular conservatives do not like to acknowledge.
11:23 Dennis Prager: And that is that the death of Christianity, and I’m a Jew saying this, the death of Christianity has made this possible. That’s why they hate Christianity. That’s why they hate Christmas. That’s why they hate saying Merry Christmas. I mean, they mock us for pointing this out. Oh, war on Christmas. The right made it up. Of course, we didn’t make it up. You can’t have a Christmas party at your at your business anymore. It has to be a holiday party. Just saying anything that’s Christian.
12:00 Dennis Prager: They hated when in the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States in the 1950s they added the words under God. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. They hate the fact that it’s under God. So that’s a big big factor as well because the only organized opposition to leftism is organized religion.
12:26 Brian Rose: Right. Okay. Okay. And I want to talk about that a little bit more because I know you said that was one of the principal structures that our that the US was founded on, you know, knowing that religion was there. And I want to get to that. Just the censorship to kind of wrap that up. You know, you obviously in 2017 got censored by YouTube. What do you see now with the censorship? Has it changed at all? Is it be has become even more extreme? And is there any way around this? I’ve also heard you say, “Look, at some point you have to kind of play ball because they’re that’s where all the views are, these major social platforms.”
12:58 Dennis Prager: Well, no, I don’t think a matter of playing ball. I look, I testified in the US Senate last year against Google. You’ll love this and your viewers can see this. It’s on at least till it’s taken down. It’s on YouTube. The I was testifying and I noted that Prager University, which is what they’ve been tampering with, which has a billion views a year, which it’s very large, and they put about a hundred of our 400 five minute videos, they put about a hundred of them on the restricted list.
13:44 Dennis Prager: Meaning that if you filter out pornography, you will and violence, you will not be able to see, excuse me, those videos. One of the videos that they put on the restricted list is my I personally I do one only one-tenth of the videos do I give 90% are given by others. But among my 10% is a series on the Ten Commandments. And one of them obviously is Thou shalt not murder. That’s on the restricted list.
14:27 Dennis Prager: So Senator Ted Cruz of Texas asked the Google representative in the US Senate. Obviously I was there. Why why did you censor Mr. Prager’s video on the Ten Commandments and he said because it mentions murder. So it’s surreal. We’re talking a surreal thing here. So I when I gave my comments, I said, “Well, we will now make a Google friendly Ten Commandments and drop the Sixth Commandment.”
15:07 Brian Rose: I’ve seen that video. I think you got a laugh on that one from someone.
15:07 Dennis Prager: That we did. I got a laugh on that one. Yeah.
15:12 Brian Rose: All right. So, it shows how preposterous that has become. That’s right. I mean, I’ve come up against quote unquote community guidelines that are subjectively enforced. They don’t even know what’s in there. I mean, I spoke with my YouTube rep 24 hours after we were banned and deleted. Second largest YouTube live stream in the world on April 6th. And he said it violated the community standards on COVID. And I said, “How long they’ve been in place?” He said, “Oh, over 6 months.” And I said, “Say that again. Over 6 months about COVID.” And he said, “Oh, well, no, I guess not.” Well, I’ll have to check. So, you don’t know.
15:48 Brian Rose: And I’ I’ve again these conversations.
15:49 Dennis Prager: I’m just curious. I know you’re asking me questions, but I’ll ask you a question. Yeah. What did you say that violated their COVID guideline?
16:01 Brian Rose: They claimed that my guest was a quote unquote COVID-19 denier. And first of all, I thought the language was quite convenient because it sounds like a Holocaust denier.
16:11 Dennis Prager: Yeah, I know that’s what they’ve always done, but what are they even referring to? What did your guest say?
16:11 Brian Rose: He was questioning the testing on COVID-19. This was very early on. And he said this PCR test was unreliable and false positives and false negatives. He also brought up 5G, god forbid, you talk about that when it come to COVID, that it might lower the immune system and that was enough for them to completely lose it. I said he wasn’t a denier. I said that’s a that’s a clickbait headline of what he said. What he said was nuanced. He said it over about 20 minutes and he really explained the DNA and the RNA, but it wasn’t enough. And this is before we ever started using the V-word vaccines when we hear that it was impossible.
16:53 Dennis Prager: You, you know, these people have such contempt for the church and Galileo. You know Galileo thought that the earth revolved around the sun which was considered preposterous by many people at that time. What is considered preposterous at any time may in fact end up being what is true. But the answer to preposterous speech is non-preposterous speech not suppression. This is new in the west especially in America which there was one thing that has never been compromised and that is free speech that was sacrosanct in American history left and right or I should say liberal and conservative and now it the cancel culture as it is called these are new phenomena in American life.
17:54 Dennis Prager: It’s a real existential battle between America and the left. One of them will survive, not both.
18:06 Brian Rose: And they’re these these tech companies are hiding behind the fact that they’re private companies. You know, they have their community standards. They can’t be regulated. There’s arguments you could say they’re public utilities and they need to follow the laws of the land, but that has to be determined in court. And as you know, that takes time and money and to be continued on that. Dennis, maybe you can tell us what’s been going on in America the past 3 months. We’re over here in England and we’re watching the riots. We’re watching the protests. Sometimes it’s hard to know when one stops and the other begins. There’s a lot of things I want to talk to you about today, but maybe we start there.
18:41 Brian Rose: What is going on from your perspective when we see these things?
18:46 Dennis Prager: The left has has first of all perpetrated I wrote this years ago. One could see it on obviously on the internet. One one is free to check my columns. I wrote that the greatest libel in modern history is that America is a racist society. America is in fact the least racist society that has had multiple races in the history of humanity. And I and I wrote because I taught Jewish history at college in the US at the university and I’ve written a book on anti-semitism.
19:26 Dennis Prager: So I know a lot about the subject. There was such a thing called the blood libel and that is the most famous libel in history. It was for hundreds of years Jews were accused of killing Christian children to use their blood to bake matzahs the unleavened bread for Passover. I mean it was a 100% lie 100%. Of course, no Jew ever did it, but you’re not even allowed to eat animal blood according to Jewish law, let alone human blood.
20:04 Dennis Prager: So anyway, libel became a famous thing because of the blood libel. This is on almost on that par of libel that America is a racist society. America, as I said, is the least racist society where multiple races have lived. So, this racist society elected the only white society in history to elect a non-white leader and Barack Obama twice. By the way, I believe that Obama got more white votes than Trump did. I’m not I’m not I’m almost certain about that.
20:41 Dennis Prager: That this racist country, but here is an interesting challenge. If America is so racist, why have two million black Africans moved to the United States in the last 50 years? Are these people stupid? Would you move to a place that hated you? I’m a Jew. Would I move to Iran? Iran is systemically anti-semitic. Would I move to Iran? If I did, I’d be I would be a suicidal fool. Blacks moved to the United States in vast numbers. And by the way, this is another fascinating statistic. 306,000 blacks came to America as slaves. 2 million blacks came to America from Africa as free people voluntarily.
21:32 Dennis Prager: You think that’s taught at any school in the United States of America? Anyway, that’s one fantastic argument against the country being racist. Here’s another one. My column this week on the number of hoaxes. There are so many race hoaxes in America. Jussie Smollett in Chicago is the most famous, but the I list 15 and I didn’t have enough space in one column to list more. Now, again, why why would people make up racist hoaxes if America is so racist?
22:07 Dennis Prager: Why do you keep having to make up noose stories? Oh, a hanging noose. Oh, that’s racist. Or or the n-word on a on a black kid’s dormitory room at a at a university. But they’re almost all made up usually by blacks trying to blame whites for racism. Why would that be if there’s so much racism? This country is a is a blessing to blacks. There’s a book called Out of America. Keith Richburg, a black Washington Post reporter, and he concluded after two years of being the Washington Post chief correspondent in Africa, how lucky he is that his ancestors, although they were horribly unlucky, he is very lucky as the beneficiary of their having been brought to America because he’s an American.
22:59 Dennis Prager: And it’s so much luckier for him than it would be had he stayed in Africa.
23:09 Brian Rose: What’s the reaction you get when you make these bold statements, Dennis, to a public that is getting a completely different narrative pretty much everywhere?
23:18 Dennis Prager: Well, that’s a very important question. Obviously, on my radio show, I mean, I continue to be hired, so they must be happy with me. But a very interesting statistic that I just learned yesterday. Prager University gets a billion views a year and yet the last two months is the highest number per month in the history of Prager University. It’s gone up 25%. There is also a thirst to hear the other side at least and the truth at best. And we try to provide both the other side and truth.
24:00 Dennis Prager: There a lot of Americans looking at these riots and watching the police do nothing saw that it is easy to take civilization down. There are a lot of stupid people in my country as in every country but not everybody is stupid. And you have to be stupid not to fear when people burn police cars, loot on mass on camera from stores and nothing happens to them. That even the liberal understands is chaos.
24:42 Brian Rose: Yeah, it’s hard to watch over here sometimes. It is. What do you say to blacks or anybody who saw what happened to George Floyd and said say Dennis this is just another example of systemic racism in the police force etc.
24:59 Dennis Prager: Well it depends if the person is interested in truth I have a great answer. If they’re not then I just wish them a good day. So if you’re interested in truth here are some truths. According to the Washington Post, using federal US data, the number of unarmed blacks killed by police in all of America in all of 2018 was, depending on how you count it, was it either something like 11 or 12 or 20?
25:34 Dennis Prager: I mean, it’s some ridiculously or not ridiculously, some incredibly small number. Obviously, in virtually every case there, it was they were unarmed, but they it’s not that they weren’t attacking a policeman like Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. And that’s and by the way, it was and 10 more whatever the number is, 10 more white unarmed whites were killed by police than blacks. So this notion of systemic racism, at least with lethality, I can’t speak to cars being stopped. Okay, but George Floyd’s car wasn’t stopped.
26:16 Dennis Prager: George Floyd was killed. Secondly, we have no idea that the policeman in Minneapolis was a racist or at least killed the man because he was black. We don’t even know if he intended to kill the man. The man had a lot of pre-existing conditions. You don’t lose your breath when a knee is on the side of your throat. It’s it would be if it was in the front of your throat. I’m not defending the policeman. It looked to me barbaric, but that this is indicative of some war on blacks by police is a is another gigantic lie.
26:54 Brian Rose: Talk to me about the Black Lives Matter movement because that’s been everywhere and yet we’re also hearing that there are some very strange fundraising components to that. And then we’ve seen corporates kind of jump on the bandwagon and again I got to watch it all from the UK and again it’s almost strange to watch. It’s stranger than fiction. The riots, like you said, the burning of police cars, the police retreating, the protests being allowed, and then corporations opting into this movement.
27:25 Dennis Prager: Well, corporations are composed of cowards. I it to be the head of a big corporation, Nike or Amazon or any of the others. I think cowardice obsequiousness is a qualifying a necessary qualification. What they put their finger up wherever the winds are blowing that’s the position that they take. Boeing. I just read this on my show today. Boeing aircraft company just let a man go, its chief spokesman 33 years ago in his 20s as a naval airman.
28:18 Dennis Prager: He wrote a piece against women in the armed forces. It was a big debate at that time. He has had to leave Boeing because of the article from 33 years ago arguing as a member of the armed forces against women in the armed forces. Why didn’t Boeing just say the guy wrote this 33 years ago? He no longer holds that opinion. End of issue. Or or or may I say, I mean, this of course is inconceivable. This would be heaven. That’s his opinion. You’re allowed to have differing opinions at the Boeing company.
28:55 Dennis Prager: Have a great day. But they could have said, “That’s 33 years ago. He’s a great man. He served America. He serves Boeing. He doesn’t hold that position anymore. Bye-bye.” But no, bye-bye to him. This is this is corporate culture today. And Lenin is reputed to have said, nobody knows if he actually said it, but it’s so true it doesn’t matter really. And that is that Western companies will compete with one another to sell us the rope with which we will hang them.
29:39 Dennis Prager: That’s what they’re doing. Black Lives Matter hates capitalism. They have contempt for corporations and yet they’re doing everything they can. They’re it’s they it’s flooded with money. Black Lives Matter flooded hundreds of millions of dollars and it’s a hate America organization. Where’s that money coming from? It certainly is not a love black lives organization because the only black lives it cares about in its slogan are those who were killed by whites. And since almost no whites kill blacks, it is white officers. That’s the entirety of its concern with black lives.
30:21 Dennis Prager: Were you killed by a white policeman?
30:27 Brian Rose: Right. Because you’re alluding to a statistic of black-on-black crime that they obviously don’t talk about and don’t care about. And if black lives actually mattered, they would address that because it’s the biggest percentage of blacks lives ending.
30:35 Dennis Prager: Right.
30:41 Brian Rose: Okay. Where’s this money coming from, Dennis?
30:41 Dennis Prager: I’m sorry.
30:45 Brian Rose: Where’s the money coming from that goes into Black Lives Matter?
30:48 Dennis Prager: Well, I the Rockefeller Foundation, I believe it was, alone gave 100 million. The left has taken over the biggest charities and the corporations are scared of the left or run by leftists and they so they just ply them with money. It’s really protection money. It’s a protection racket. We won’t be attacked as racist. Here’s a bunch of money.
31:15 Brian Rose: And we saw corporations fork over chunks like Cisco gave them 5 million and Airbnb cut him a check. And there was a lot of big donations,
31:30 Dennis Prager: Right? Which is remarkable given that they’re not shy about telling you capitalism is evil. So if Black Lives Matter had its way, all these people giving them millions of dollars would no longer exist. It’s Orwellian.
31:47 Brian Rose: Let me ask you a question, Dennis. If I’m black and I’m in America and I feel angry by everything I’m seeing in the media, whether it’s right or wrong, and I see these people that are protesting and they say Black Lives Matter, which sounds right to me, you know, what should I do? Should I learn more about it? Should I find another way to protest? Should I educate myself? Like I’m sure you have empathy towards the people that are out there as a part of this but maybe don’t really know what’s going on.
32:13 Dennis Prager: Well, I have two two I have a lot of responses that number one empathy is extremely difficult. Sympathy is very very possible. We use the word empathy, but the truth is it’s almost impossible to empathize with another. I’ll give you an example having nothing to do with race. I spoke to a man who lost his son in a car crash. His son was 20 years old. He was devastated. He was truly devastated. He was inconsolable.
32:55 Dennis Prager: He said, “I went to therapy, had no help. I went back. He was a Jew. I went back to synagogue. No help. Religion didn’t help. Therapy didn’t help. My friends didn’t help. My family didn’t help. So, of course, I said, “Did anything help?” He said, “Yes, something did.” And I said, “What was that?” Meeting with other parents who lost their children. And it really awakened me to the fact that we can have I have tremendous sympathy for someone who lost a child, but I can’t have empathy.
33:32 Dennis Prager: It’s not possible. I can imagine the pain, but I haven’t had it. So I’m just giving you a philosophical take on your question, which may be well well beyond what was necessary. But so if you mean sympathy, which is what you meant, I I constantly tell I have a lot of black listeners, and the blacks are to the Democratic Party what workers were to the Communist Party, a group to be used for power. The Democrats care about blacks as much as I care about basket weaving in Thailand.
34:15 Dennis Prager: And I wrote a piece on that people could see on the internet. I write a column every week. I was a thousand of my columns on the internet. And I wrote the left doesn’t doesn’t give a damn about blacks, which is which is a fact. Feminists don’t give a damn about women. The proof is about they don’t defend the girls who were being defeated in all these races against males who identify as females. They’re leftists with all of these groups, but they use a theoretically maligned minority, although women are a majority. They use them as their vehicle for power.
34:58 Dennis Prager: You for most blacks, you are very lucky to be an American. If you’re walking around angry at America, you are displacing anger that you may have for whatever reason onto the United States, which doesn’t deserve it. It deserved it when there was slavery. It deserved it during Jim Crow, the segregation laws, but it does not deserve it now. And it hasn’t deserved it for a generation. This country is a blessing for blacks who want to use it for a blessing. Ask the black Africans who’ve moved here.
35:38 Brian Rose: Okay. Talk to me about monuments being pulled down. This whole debate. What do you see there? What do we need to do?
35:46 Dennis Prager: Well, there are two separate ones. It’s the con the Confederate statues and non-Confederate. I have some sympathy, but only legally, not tearing down. If people want to vote, do you take down this Confederate general from a statue in Mississippi? Okay. If you the majority of the state votes for it, I support it. That’s fine. But Robert E. Lee, the general who led the Confederate army is a very complex question. Robert E. Lee prevented a lot of Americans from dying after the Civil War because he told the South, “Lay down your arms.
36:25 Dennis Prager: This is over.” He did a great service to the country after leading the terrible cause of the Confederacy acknowledged. But otherwise, that’s that’s one thing. But the president was right and he was mocked by the media. Needless to say, the president could say it’s cold outside, he’ll be mocked. And he said, “Where will this end? Jefferson, Washington?” And they mocked him. What? People are going to tear down Jefferson or or Washington monuments. And of course they are.
37:02 Dennis Prager: They’re they’re which is symbolic. They want to tear down America. Right. Right. Now just for a no moment let me just say the notion that if somebody owned slaves in the 19th century or or 18th century in the case of Washington then we judge them today everybody slavery was universal. So you could not have a monument to just about anybody from earlier than the 19th century.
37:37 Dennis Prager: Certainly not not a black African, not an Arab. I mean the Arab slave trade was enormous. The word for a black black person in Arabic, abid means slave. That’s how that’s how widespread it was. And by the way, they castrated their slaves so that they couldn’t reproduce. Americans did not castrate their slaves and they reproduced massively and often, not always, had a family life. It this is not to tell you slavery is good. Slavery is pure evil. But there are gradations of evil.
38:21 Dennis Prager: Only a fool denies there are gradations of good and there are gradations of evil. Anyway, the only question that an intelligent or an honest person asks is not what society had slavery. It’s what society abolished slavery. That’s the only important question.
38:43 Brian Rose: Do you think people even know the history behind these monuments when they tear them down?
38:49 Dennis Prager: To tear down Ulysses Grant. Ulysses Grant suppressed the KKK, the Ku Klux Klan. Ulysses Grant loathed slavery. He led the army that sacrificed itself to end slavery and taking down Ulysses Grant. I mean it’s unbelievable. But everything is take because they just want to destroy America. So no statue is good. Ask them to name a statue you would leave alone. They could not answer your question.
39:23 Brian Rose: You’ve talked about these kind of microaggressions and this whole racism dialogue that even goes on in the universities and I know University of California has it. I mean, this is all part of this narrative that you think is just a big lie that’s been sold to the country to get the left to be able to control people by just saying this is this is all happening and we need to hate ourselves for it and then tear things down to remedy it.
39:47 Dennis Prager: Microaggressions is one of my four proofs of how little racism there is in America. Microaggressions was invented as a way of saying, “Oh, think of all the things whites say that are really racist, but they don’t but they deny it.” There is so little pure racism in American speech about blacks that they have made up. They’ve had to make up like they make up a hoax. Microaggressions is another hoax. Again, all of this is available on the internet. Type in University of California list of microaggressions.
40:27 Dennis Prager: So, here is an example of a racist statement that is commonly made, but which the University of California and the entire left says is really racist. If somebody says there is only one race, the human race, that is now considered racist. That’s a microaggression. That is one of the most beautiful sentiments a human can have. There’s only one race, the human race, and the left declares it racist because we really don’t say racist things anymore. So, they’ve had to make up this stuff.
41:02 Dennis Prager: That’s my one of my That’s my second proof about how little racism there is in America.
41:10 Brian Rose: Have you had anybody try to debate you on a lot of these points?
41:14 Dennis Prager: Okay, so here’s another very famous rule. The left never debates. They smear. That’s why they shut down speakers or try to shut down speakers like me, Ben Shapiro, Jordan Peterson, Heather Mac Donald, who come to their campus because they know they can’t win a debate. In their gut, they know that. So they have to call us what I invented years ago, SIXHIRB. Sexist, intolerant, xenophobic, homophobic, Islamophobic, racist, bigoted. You don’t debate a conservative, you smear him or her.
41:50 Dennis Prager: There are many of them that are hers. That’s that’s what they do. So they won’t I we invite on my radio show which is heard around America. We invite people on the left and 99% of the time they say no or don’t respond. I met Thomas Friedman of the New York Times. I bumped into him at Washington DC airport a few years ago. I don’t think he knew who I was. And I but I said to him, Tom Friedman, I’m just curious. Would you go on a radio talk show?
42:29 Dennis Prager: And he goes, “No, I don’t I don’t do radio.” And sure enough, the next week he was on National Public Radio, which is the left-wing version of talk radio, but he would never go on a regular talk show because we’re conservative. So they don’t debate. I would love to debate Thomas Friedman. I would pay him to debate me.
42:53 Brian Rose: So they don’t debate, they censor or they cancel as well. Talk to me about…
42:53 Dennis Prager: Smearing is a very important part of it.
43:01 Brian Rose: Okay. Tell me about cancel culture. We obviously saw this piece that came out in Harper’s a bit of a push back to this cancel culture that also seems to have been already smeared in the last 24 hours. But it was JK Rowling and even people, you know, you might say on the left like Noam Chomsky and other people signing this thing that said I think in effect this had gone a bit too far. I don’t know. What do you make of that and the cancel culture?
43:26 Dennis Prager: I didn’t see this. I’m very curious about it. Chomsky signed it.
43:31 Brian Rose: It was like 135 people from apparently left and right and black and white that basically signed a letter saying that this has gone too far. We’re canceling people. And I think one of the best examples was the JK Rowling her coming out and making these statements and as opposed to having a talk about it or a debate about it, people are getting cancelled.
43:52 Dennis Prager: Boycott her work. Yeah. Boy, boycott Harry Potter. Yeah. She she she came across a statement what is it? People who menstruate and she said it’s just the word for people who menstruate is women. And for that she has been called a hater. To say that women menstruate and men don’t is now to be considered a hater. It gives you an idea of how sick the mind is of a leftist. I mean sick. It’s truly it’s not normal to believe such nonsense.
44:28 Dennis Prager: So the look what is happening is in every leftist revolution this happens. It starts to eat its own. The French Revolution put its own under the guillotine. The communists killed Stalin killed every one of his rivals. He even went they even killed Trotsky and he found them in Mexico and had him killed with an ice pick. This is what the left does. There’s no exception. They’re completely consistent. So this letter will have zero impact. Absolutely zero impact. And it will they will continue to eat their own just like they did with the #MeToo thing. And you know the the guy that senator from Minnesota is a name eludes me for a moment but very famous senator and big big guy on the left and you know couple of women said that or there was a picture of him as a joke in a in a skit with his hands on the breast of a woman and that ended his career.
45:27 Dennis Prager: Th this is look I don’t have any worries about this. I’ve never done anything untoward in this whole arena. So I but I have to say that I wrote once a piece my wife worked in her 20s in her teens late teens as a waitress. The manager of the restaurant grabbed her breasts. He she took his hands off her breast and continued serving for the rest of the night and somehow has survived to become a mother of two and a great wife, an incredible woman.
46:09 Dennis Prager: I don’t defend what that guy did. The guy was the guy was a boor, B-O-O-R. But I counsel women because I do a lot of counseling as it were on my radio show, not just politics. You choose whether to be traumatized in some of these things. Now, if you’re in battle and you see your buddy have his head blown off, that’s trauma. But a guy puts his hand on your butt, that’s that’s rude, disgusting, boorish, pathetic, but not traumatic.
46:56 Dennis Prager: It’s like I give a remote example. When I was younger, and it didn’t happen often, but every so often a gay guy would, you know, make a pass, so to speak, at me when I was a young guy. I remember other guys, other heterosexuals go, man, that I’d kill that guy. I mean, they don’t mean it literally. They’d get really angry. And I thought, why would you get angry? What is so terrible about it? You’re not interested. Tell him you’re not interested and have a great day. Why are you angry? And I actually took it positively.
47:32 Dennis Prager: I said, “Hey, if a gay guy finds me attractive, maybe women do.” And I thought it was a great thing. I made I made true lemonade out of it. I mean, people the ease with which people today are traumatized and get angry. This is another legacy of the left is to make vast numbers of people unhappy. I wrote a book on happiness. Happiness is a very important thing in life. I have a motto, the happy make the world better. The unhappy make it worse. I’ve 20 years I’ve had a happiness hour in addition to my the book that I’ve written on my radio show every week.
48:12 Dennis Prager: Friday the second hour of my show. By the way, in Britain or anywhere in the world you could hear my show, dennisprager.com. And it’s very important to be happy. The there is no happy leftist. There are happy liberals. There are happy conservatives. There are no happy leftists. Look at look at look at the people in the protests. Not not forget the violent ones. They’re they’re so angry. And listen, I have a riddle. I made up one riddle in my life. What do you call a happy black? Answer a Republican.
48:56 Brian Rose: What does that mean, Dennis?
48:58 Dennis Prager: It means that the Democrats thrive on making women unhappy, blacks unhappy, because the unhappy and angry woman will vote Democrat. The unhappy and angry black will vote Democrat or Hispanic or gay. Prager University, my very large group, we have on our board, we have a gay man married to a gay man. He’s obviously conservative. He’s on the board of Prager University. And I don’t believe, by the way, as a religious Jew, I believe marriage is between a man and a woman.
49:37 Dennis Prager: And he’s happy to serve on the board. And I’m happy that he serves on the board. I have he respects the fact that I have that belief. I respect the fact that he is a terrific conservative and we love each other. And that’s the that’s the way conservatives work. We have principles and we also are kind to people. So, a happy gay is also more likely not to be a Democrat. But if you think society is screwing you, the Democrats are your party.
50:18 Brian Rose: So, they weaponize anger is what they’re doing.
50:22 Dennis Prager: They not just weaponize it, they create it. The that it’s worse than that. They manufacture anger. America is a racist society is a manufactured lie to keep blacks voting Democrat to keep hiring chancellors of diversity.
50:45 Brian Rose: Yeah. I run an academy here at London Real and graduated over 5,000 students. And part of my job is to get people to feel good about themselves so they can go build things and take risks and get out there and not worry about what other people say. And I’m always suspicious of anything out there that tries to get you to feel bad about yourself. Like that always makes me suspicious. So when I see anything out there that tries to get you to hate yourself, I mean, I have a hard enough time getting normal people to feel good enough about themselves to go out there and do good and create things and be positive. I never It always looks suspicious to me, Dennis, when people start off getting you to hate yourself or hate others.
51:27 Dennis Prager: You should be like look that’s why I consider happiness a moral issue not just an emotional issue. Happy people make the world better. The unhappy make it worse. That’s that’s the motto of my program every Friday. And this is a living example. There are no happy leftists. Once you become happy what you can’t be happy. How could a black be happy if he thinks every white is a racist? I’m a Jew. If I thought every non-Jew was an anti-Semite, would I be happy?
52:03 Brian Rose: Yeah, well said. I appreciate you articulating that. Let me ask you about a phrase called white privilege and what it means to you. The people that purvey that phrase out there on the left would look at the two of us is probably poster child for that. I had Douglas Murray in this room talking about this about a year ago. What does that mean to you when you hear that word or that phrase?
52:26 Dennis Prager: By the way, Douglas Murray’s another example of a terrific gay conservative. I mean, there you go. He’s he’s a he’s just a tremendous thinker, but he’s gra he’s grateful to live in the West. If you’re gay and you live in the West, you’re you’re pretty lucky. If you’re anything and live in the West, you’re pretty lucky. That’s that’s that’s the point. So what was what was the issue you raised with Douglas Murray?
52:50 Brian Rose: White privilege. What is that?
52:56 Dennis Prager: White privilege. Yes. Okay. So I there’s one thing the left is and I and I’m not sarcastic. They are great at words. Yeah. Manufacturing of these things. White privilege. When I first heard it, I just realized how absurd it is. Is there any privilege inherent to being black? Probably in some cases. I don’t deny that. But there’s privilege. There are a million privileges that are more important. Whites, first of all, are not the most successful economically. Asians are more successful than than white.
53:35 Dennis Prager: Whites are in the middle when you put in Asians and by by group, Japanese Americans, Chinese Americans, Indian-Americans, whites are in the middle. But anyway, what about this? Would you rather be a white who was abandoned by their father or a black raised by a father and mother? Statistically, there’s no question which is more likely to have addiction problems, which is more likely to fail for out of school, which is more likely to become criminal.
54:13 Dennis Prager: I mean, so as I answered it the first day I heard it with how about two parent privilege, father privilege, good good values privilege, don’t get pregnant privilege, graduate high school privilege, or even to be really radical, American privilege. You’re pretty damn lucky if you’re American. That’s why so much of the world wants to move here.
54:40 Brian Rose: Well said. Talk to me about religion, Dennis. You know, a lot of people don’t want to talk about religion, but you know, you structured it. I’ve heard you talk about this in a way that I never really thought about how with founding fathers kind of used the structure of religion to base a lot of the principles on and yet without it a lot of that seems to fall through. Am I paraphrasing that correctly with what you’re saying?
55:05 Dennis Prager: That is correct. I explain it in my book, Still the Best Hope, where I explain the left and America and Islam. It’s like three books in one. And I really commend it to your viewers. Still the Best Hope. And I explain the brilliance because they were they were gifted the founders of the United States. So in a nutshell, they wanted more than anything for people to be free. Liberty is the animating principle. It’s why the French gave America the Statue of Liberty. But they knew that people human nature is not basically good. They weren’t naive like most college graduates today who believe human nature is basically good.
55:47 Dennis Prager: They knew it’s deeply flawed. So how do you have liberty with flawed people? Because the freer flawed people will be, the more chaos they will produce, the more crime. If people if there’s no bound, people will rob and kill and men will rape. So you what do you do? So they realized you’ll either have to have a strong god or a strong state.
56:23 Dennis Prager: But as soon as you have a strong state, you have less freedom. So you can only have a lot of freedom if there is a strong God. Meaning that people feel that they have to answer to God for their behavior rather than just the state. The state can get smaller as the moral God and judging God gets bigger. That’s why we have in America what I call and I explain in my book Still the Best Hope. We have a trinity in America just like Christianity has a trinity and I didn’t make it up.
57:00 Dennis Prager: It’s on every coin. Liberty in God we trust. E pluribus unum meaning from many one. In God we trust is part of it. You can’t. I tell secular liberals, secular conservatives all the time, conservatism will die if God dies. It’s just the way it is. The freedom is dependent upon that belief. The Liberty Bell, the most iconic symbol of the American Revolution, the Liberty Bell has one thing written on it, a verse from the Bible, and you shall proclaim liberty throughout the land to all its inhabitants from the book of Leviticus.
57:43 Dennis Prager: And but let me tell you something. Writing a Bible commentary and one of the books being Leviticus, very few people ever heard of Leviticus, let alone knew how to quote it. These people were not all Christian. They didn’t all believe in Christ. They all believed in God. They all believed in the importance of the Bible. And yet our religious figures have failed in the US. If they can’t announce that colorblind is God’s desire, that’s another microaggression.
58:20 Dennis Prager: Color blind. If you say you’re colorblind, you’re really a racist. The whole point is to be colorblind. That doesn’t mean I don’t see your color. I’m not physically blind. I see your color. I see the color of your eyes. See the color of your hair. But I am colorblind vis-à-vis the color of your hair because I infer nothing from it. Correct? I attach no importance whether you have brown hair, white hair, gray hair, black hair or blonde hair, I attach no significance to it. Nobody does. If somebody said to you, you know, anyone with black hair, I really I just assume they’re they’re an idiot or or or some other bad thing.
59:00 Dennis Prager: You would think I’m talking to an idiot. There’s no significance to hair color. So why is there significance to skin color? If the if a clergyman can’t say God wants us to be colorblind, they should resign from the clergy.
59:22 Brian Rose: All right. So you’ve been let down by the religious leaders. You don’t see them.
59:25 Dennis Prager: Yes. Exactly. And I wrote about that too in my recent columns.
59:29 Brian Rose: Okay. All of them. All the religions in the US you’ve let down.
59:33 Dennis Prager: Oh yeah. It’s irrelevant. Exactly correct. There are a handful of Orthodox Jews, handful of evangelical Christians, traditional Catholics that are saying or a couple of Mormons, but by and large, which is very upsetting, as I wrote in my column, there is more fear of the New York Times and fear of the left among religious people than fear of God. And that’s that’s why fear of God is so important so that you don’t fear people.
1:00:09 Brian Rose: So that puts us in a tricky situation. I mean, you know, as a young person in America, well, for the past 20 or 30 years, religion hasn’t always appealed with the bad PR of the Catholic Church and the leaders not being there. So, does this put us on a crash course if religion is not part of the fabric anymore?
1:00:28 Dennis Prager: It’s burying itself in look, nobody’s going to go to church. Certainly, a young person isn’t going to go to church or synagogue to hear what they hear on CNN. It’s much more comfortable to be at home and watch CNN than go to church or go to synagogue to hear the same thing from the rabbi, priest, or minister. So, that’s why left left-wing Christianity and left-wing Judaism are dying. The only denomination in Judaism that’s growing is Orthodoxy. The only Christian denomination that’s growing Protestants is evangelical because the mainstream churches and synagogues are irrelevant.
1:01:12 Dennis Prager: They’re just they’re a regurgitation of the New York Times editorial page.
1:01:19 Brian Rose: Let’s talk about Trump. How has he handled things the past three to four months in your opinion? And how does the left attack him? And is this all about the election at the end of the day? Because we’re literally months away.
1:01:32 Dennis Prager: Yes, it’s all about the election. The there’s no doubt in my mind that for the left COVID and the whatever the lockdown COVID and the lockdown are regarded. They won’t say it because it makes them sound callous, but it’s great for them. The president created the greatest economy in decades, the lowest unemployment rate among blacks since the unemployment rate was measured.
1:02:08 Dennis Prager: And now that’s all been shattered. So, they’re not dying for us to go back to work and revive the economy. I do believe that for the left, a crushed economy is is better than a Trump election, a Trump re-election. How has he handled thing in the last four months? How has any leader handled it? The only ones who handled it well in my opinion are Sweden. I agree with the Swedish. They who lost more people percentage-wise, but I think are in a healthier state today than almost any other country.
1:02:45 Dennis Prager: And you can’t destroy the world’s economy when virtually no healthy person and no one under 70 is going to die. It’s unbelievably rare. I’m 70 and I you know so I am theoretically at greater risk and I’m saying this to you. If I were 80 I would say this to you. I don’t want to die. I love my wife. I love my kids. I love my grandkids. I love my life. I love my friends. I’m one of the happiest people you’ll ever meet. But I care about my society. And I am If I need to self-quarantine, I’ll self-quarantine.
1:03:26 Dennis Prager: But why can’t kids go to school? Why can’t 35 year olds keep the economy going? There’s no good answer to that. It’s been hysteria. But as I’ve written many times hysteria is to the left what oxygen is to biological life.
1:03:50 Brian Rose: And is Trump doing the right things? He is saying mandatory sentences for people pulling down statues.
1:03:50 Dennis Prager: Yes. Exactly. Law enforcement.
1:03:59 Brian Rose: You do you have to fight the left that way head-to-head?
1:04:04 Dennis Prager: Well, as I’ve said much of my life that we’re in a civil war, but only one side is fighting. It’s got to change because most people won’t fight the left because it’s guerrilla. That’s correct. That is guerrilla war. It’s guerrilla warfare. Pe people don’t understand it, right? You get smeared, right? You get hit from behind, you know, you get attacked at night in your sleep. All right. But Trump is going head-to-head against them, and that’s the right thing to do. It’s the only thing to do. The dividing line between me and a conservative who’s an anti-Trumper is that I believe that the left poses an existential threat to America and they don’t.
1:04:54 Dennis Prager: If I thought we didn’t have an existential threat, then I could say, “All right, so not Trump, somebody else. That’s fine.” But we don’t have that luxury. And the preoccupation with Trump’s flaws as opposed to the preoccupation with leftist destruction is immature. It’s truly immature.
1:05:18 Brian Rose: Tell me about what’s going to happen with the election. We see Joe Biden as a candidate and it’s kind of hard to believe that he is the candidate. And yet you read the polls from the leftist media and they say Trump’s behind. Where is he really? And what’s really going to happen, do you think, Dennis?
1:05:34 Dennis Prager: No one knows. Look, I thought Hillary Clinton would win, so never ask me for a prediction. I No, nobody knows. But I do worry there is one worry that is very new. It’s as of yesterday actually that they will the left will somehow ensure that there are no debates. Biden is pathetic and he was pathetic before he had I think difficult issues in his mind.
1:06:12 Dennis Prager: So, I think Trump would have just just destroyed him intellectually and verbally. But so they don’t want him to debate. They’re thrilled that he doesn’t say anything. He’s he’s got a mask on some basement and they’re thrilled. The less people hear from Biden, the more the issue is Trump and that’s what they want. So Thomas Friedman, a man I used to think was a liberal, now I believe is a leftist at the New York Times, said Trump Biden should not debate Trump unless Trump agrees to two things.
1:06:53 Dennis Prager: Release his tax returns and has a truth committee at every debate. In other words, I, Thomas Friedman, knowing that Biden would lose, I’m going to figure out a face saving way to get him out of debating. I think that’s what the left is going to try to do and it could work with all the stuff that’s
1:07:18 Brian Rose: Well, because the whole media will agree, right?
1:07:24 Dennis Prager: Yeah. As if what does tax returns have to do with the debate? Anyway, I’m I was opposed to politicians showing tax returns my whole life. It’s none of my business and it’s demeaning to have to show your tax return. I don’t know why the process of running for president has to be demeaning. But if it’s that important, why doesn’t the editor of the New York Times release his tax return?
1:07:52 Brian Rose: Yeah. Dennis, when you see China, what do you see there?
1:07:57 Dennis Prager: I see a communist government and an aggressive communist government. What it’s just done with Hong Kong reinforces my belief that it was Margaret Thatcher’s great mistake and she was one of the greatest leaders of the 20th century. You know, that the honoring of the agreement for Britain to give control of Hong Kong over to China. When that agreement was made, China was not run by a totalitarian state that had killed more of its citizens than any other in the history of the world.
1:08:32 Dennis Prager: Mao killed more Chinese than Stalin killed Russians or that Hitler killed the Jews. So, I don’t think Britain had to honor the agreement, but I knew this was going to happen. It just took longer than I thought. They’re imposing communist law on Hong Kong. So that ends Hong Kong. Hong Kong is over if this is not undone.
1:09:04 Brian Rose: They’re they’re they’re now a very serious danger. China, right? They’re our biggest enemy or the US’s biggest enemy or the West’s biggest enemy.
1:09:11 Dennis Prager: Well, and Iran. China and Iran.
1:09:14 Brian Rose: Okay. All right. And they need to be treated like an enemy.
1:09:17 Dennis Prager: Yes, that’s exactly right. Every major company should pull out of China. Go to Vietnam. I’m not saying they even have to come to the United States. You want you want cheap Asian labor, go to Vietnam, even though that’s a communist regime that doesn’t pose the threat to us and the people love America.
1:09:41 Brian Rose: Tell me about PragerU. You’re what 11 years in. Did you ever imagine it would get to where it is? Did you ever imagine it would be so big? I mean the rumors is you spent 10 million last year but you raised 20-some million. I mean it’s big and it’s impressive. Tell me about that journey.
1:10:00 Dennis Prager: Well I will tell you if in the beginning somebody would have said Dennis you’ll see you will get a million views a year. I know what I would have said. I would have said that’s very sweet of you from your mouth to God’s ears. Had somebody said you will get a billion views a year and the majority are under 35 years of age. That’s an important little addition. Then I would have said, okay, you know, let’s return to Earth and stop the silliness.
1:10:37 Dennis Prager: And we’re at a billion a year for the last few years. And again, majority are under 35 years of age. I mean, I know because I walk through airports in the United States and even in Europe, a lot of Brits, a lot of people all over the world, we have huge all over the world audience and people will just stop me and most of the people who stop me now are under 35 years of age. It’s a very interesting thing. PragerU, for those of your viewers who don’t know, produce every single week. We have over 400 of these five minute videos from all walks of life and professors, former prime ministers just were having one from a 17-year-old high school girl, a track star who was defeated constantly by biological males at in the high school races in Connecticut.
1:11:34 Dennis Prager: I mean, these are very powerful videos. They’re all five minutes long. I have my own half-hour video every week called the Fireside Chat with about a million views a week. And you know the dog who sits next to me, the bulldog Otto I think is now the most famous dog in America and I am happy to add it has not gone to his head. He is he continues to be the humble bulldog that he was prior to his fame.
1:12:10 Brian Rose: And you’ve kept it to the same model, these five-minute videos. That’s right. Which, you know, in retrospect looks like one of the most intelligent decisions you made. I’m sure it was tempting to break out into documentary films and long form content, but you decided not to. Why?
1:12:28 Dennis Prager: Well, it wasn’t my idea. The whole university wasn’t my idea. It was Alan Estrin’s idea. He’s my dear friend for many years. He’s the producer of my radio show. We were on the Indian Ocean on our listener cruise which I’ve done every year except this year because of COVID, taking listeners somewhere in the world. This was the Indian Ocean. He said let’s start Prager University. Now since he has not cracked a joke since he was 11 years old he’s a very serious man. I took him seriously and I just said fine and I figured what the hell what am I going to say? No. So we got to get your ideas out there. I go, “Good. I think you’re right.”
1:13:07 Dennis Prager: So, I said, “I have a I have a very interesting take. All the videos should be five minutes long.” And it was prophetic. You have no idea how much work goes into those five minutes and how much you could learn with those five minutes. Unless you’re learning STEM, science, technology, engineering, or math, I do believe you will learn more if you watch the 400 something PragerU videos and you do the readings assigned with them. You will learn much more about the world, about life, than you will at a university.
1:13:48 Brian Rose: Yeah, they’re incredibly done. And I mean, I’m in the media business and you can tell you put a lot of time into those and it’s great because they’re evergreen. It feels like you could watch those for many, many years.
1:13:57 Dennis Prager: That’s exactly right. They’re evergreen.
1:13:59 Brian Rose: Yeah. Speaking of media, what do you see in the mainstream media, which is where a lot of people get their education from and get their information from? How has it changed in the last few years? And what are your thoughts on it?
1:14:13 Dennis Prager: It’s just more obviously not news media. It’s all indoctrination media. The difference between the New York Times and Pravda is not great. Pravda was the Soviet communist newspaper. The news in Pravda was written to further the communist party’s interest. The news in the New York Times is written to further leftism’s interest.
1:14:48 Dennis Prager: And that’s that’s I prepared for this because I read Pravda constantly as I told you in the beginning at the Russian Institute of Columbia. I never thought that I would say this about mainstream American newspapers. And by the way, interestingly, when I interviewed at a Prager University event, I interviewed former Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and he looked at me and you the interview was on YouTube, I believe, and he said, “The CBC is worse than CNN.”
1:15:26 Dennis Prager: That’s the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. That’s how bad it is in Canada.
1:15:33 Brian Rose: Yeah. Well, the BBC now is just it’s just horrible. It’s just a show.
1:15:38 Dennis Prager: That’s right.
1:15:38 Brian Rose: They just rattle off government policies because they’re also waiting for the government to cut their funding. I mean, it’s ridiculous. You know, it’s funny. I have I was on RT. I have a friend Max Keiser who has a show on RT and he said, “Brian, when my videos are played on YouTube, it has a disclaimer at the bottom saying state sponsored media, but when the BBC plays at the bottom, there’s no disclaimer at the bottom of those videos, even though it’s state sponsored media.” So there you go. Just curious, Dennis, I mean, you know, you’ve been around the world, you visited Russia when you were a young man. Now that you look at where America is now, was it only a matter of time before the left reared its ugly head?
1:16:17 Brian Rose: Is this something cyclical that happens in societies or was this preventable and can we change this going forward?
1:16:27 Dennis Prager: Well, it’s a lot of questions and here are some answers. It was preventable if we had taught young Americans what America stood for, if families taught them. But they didn’t. That the World War II generation which gave birth to the baby boomers, they did they all they cared about was that their kids not suffer a depression like they had in the in the 30s and not suffer a world war like they had with World War II. That was their only interest. So they raised a free and affluent generation without patriotism and without religion.
1:17:14 Dennis Prager: So they had they had nothing to believe in and yet they were affluent and secular. Affluence and secular is a bad combination. That’s the root of leftism. And that’s that’s what that’s what we have today. That’s why look you know wealthy religious people are not leftists. Poor religious people are not leftists. They already have a religion. Leftism is a secular religion. It’s the only way to understand it. So none of this none of this shocks me. None of it.
1:17:51 Dennis Prager: I mean sometimes when you know when I’m supposed to say men menstruate. You could see this on YouTube too. I was on the very very famous American television show with Bill Maher. M-A-H-E-R is one of the most widely viewed weekly shows in America. People really want to get on his show. He’s he’s he’s a man of the left. He’s really a liberal. Anyway, when I was on his show last last fall, they said, “Oh, you know, everybody on the panel was on the left except me.
1:18:29 Dennis Prager: And said, ‘Oh, you know, Trump is just a liar. Said, ‘Well, you know, he certainly does fudge the truth on occasion, but doesn’t compare to the lies of the left, so I got booed. Said, so Bill Maher said, like, what? Said, well, like menstruate. And everybody started laughing at me like I made it up, including Bill Maher, who said, where did you get that one from? I never heard that in my life. And now just 6 months later, everyone on the left must say men menstruate or you’re kicked out of the left.
1:19:05 Dennis Prager: That’s JK Rowling, which you pointed out earlier. It’s all gone to be madness.
1:19:10 Brian Rose: It’s almost stranger than fiction. Dennis, I just want to finish and ask you there’s a rumor you’re going to run for president in 2024. Tell us about that and what makes you want to get into that crazy crazy race?
1:19:26 Dennis Prager: Well, I don’t want to get into that crazy crazy race. My interest in politics, in being a politician is zero. But I have given this thought because all I want really is to get the ideas out to the American people in even greater numbers than I have with my writings, radio, and PragerU. If you run for president, you get a lot of coverage. And I am more interested in the coverage than in winning.
1:20:04 Dennis Prager: But if I ran, I mean, I’d have to honestly want to win obviously. But if somebody else is articulately conveying the danger of the left, I will not run. But if someone isn’t, I may feel a moral compunction because I know how to explain the left in a half a minute, in a minute, in 10 minutes, in two hours, or in a 300-page book.
1:20:39 Dennis Prager: And that’s what Americans need to understand, the threat to this wonderful country. They need to understand why it’s a wonderful country and they need to understand the left-wing threat.
1:20:52 Brian Rose: Okay. Just a couple personal questions about you. If I were to ask some of your friends, maybe five of your best friends, what is Dennis’s superpower? How are you able to do so much? And you do a lot. What would they say it is?
1:21:07 Dennis Prager: What would they say it is? And that’s an interesting question. They would say I don’t know what they would I don’t know what they would say. I’m not sure what I would say. I know one of the reasons I’m very productive is that I’m naturally lazy. So in order to overcome my natural laziness, I take on a tremendous number of projects. Okay? When you owe a publisher a book and if you don’t get it on time, you give him back your advance. That gets lazy people to do work.
1:21:43 Dennis Prager: So I have no doubt that’s a factor. But the biggest reason is they know this. I’m driven by what I believe in. And I know how fragile civilization is. And I’ve said this well before what’s going on now in America. It’s true for Britain. It’s true for the whole West. It’s all fragile. And I know it because of the Holocaust. The most advanced country in Europe in one generation went from Beethoven to Auschwitz.
1:22:19 Dennis Prager: Society could collapse very quickly.
1:22:22 Brian Rose: Yeah. No, indeed. And besides running for president, what are the next five years look like for you? PragerU, more books on the horizon, obviously radio every day. What are your plans?
1:22:34 Dennis Prager: Right. Well, we’re just hope nicely growing PragerU until the tech companies may shut us down. Is a very real danger. It could happen any day. But until then, we’re just going to expand. And as I told you, we’re we’re we’re more than ever being seen now. I am working on a five volume commentary on the Bible on the first five books known as the Torah. I came out with two. The third one is coming out next year. The only good thing about COVID is it’s enabled me to do a lot of work on this. It’s very hard project.
1:23:14 Dennis Prager: I know biblical Hebrew really well. I’ve taught this all of my life and it’s called The Rational Bible because I don’t use faith. I use reason to explain the Bible. That’s why if you read Amazon reviews, how many people say, “This guy turned me around. I now believe in God or I now believe in the brilliance of the Bible.” So that’s the big project. It’s done. Nobody writes a Bible commentary to get rich. I’m writing it be it is the bestselling Bible commentary in America, but I and that’s wonderful, but you still don’t get rich from it.
1:23:50 Dennis Prager: I would love to get rich from it, by the way. I’m not I’m not against it, but it’s not why I’m writing it. Obviously, third volume is coming out next year. Genesis and Exodus are out. Then the thing I really really really really want to do is write my autobiography. I have led and everyone has led a unique life because we’re all unique, but some are uniquer than others to paraphrase Orwell on you know some are more equal than others. And it’s so there are so many fun stories as well. I’ve been to 130 countries.
1:24:28 Dennis Prager: I’ve conducted symphony orchestras. I’ve teach biblical Hebrew. I’m a I have a lot of interest and I’ve met so many fascinating people. I have a very compelling story. And so I can’t wait to write my autobiography and, you know, watch my grandchildren grow up. And it’s people ask me on the radio every it’s the American way of saying hello. How are you Dennis? So I now have a standard answer. I’m fine. My country isn’t.
1:25:06 Dennis Prager: That’s the current state of Dennis Prager’s life.
1:25:09 Brian Rose: Yeah. Well, I appreciate that. I always finish with a couple advice questions. Dennis, if you could pick up the phone and ring up the 20-year-old Dennis Prager and give that young man some advice based on 50 years of experience, what would you tell him?
1:25:51 Brian Rose: Dennis, I appreciate your ideas. I appreciate your boldness in putting this stuff out there. I I watch your PragerU videos. I watch your fireside chats with Otto. And I just appreciate the fact that you’re willing to put really controversial ideas out there in your trademark calm way. And like you said, you’re willing to have people on your show that you would debate and you’re not the guy that tries to belittle people or yell over people. You’re the guy that has the calm debate and it’s a it’s a good vibe about you and I think obviously the resonates with the kids coming from you.
1:26:23 Dennis Prager: It’s a big compliment. Thank you.
1:26:28 Brian Rose: How can people find out about how to watch your radio show PragerU, your books, you etc. What’s the best part?
1:26:34 Dennis Prager: Very simple. Okay. So everything more or less is dennisprager.com. My books are at Amazon. Still the Best Hope explains the left and America and The Rational Bible. Even if you’re an atheist, read what atheists write in the reviews that it makes them think. And PragerU is prageru.com. So it’s all there. I’ll tell you this. If you get hooked, any of you watching, you could binge for a long time. There’s a lot of stuff out there.
1:27:09 Dennis Prager: And not just politics, men and women, meaning of life. I mean, it’s because everything matters and that’s that’s what I care about, everything.
1:27:23 Brian Rose: Well, I highly recommend everyone watching to follow you. YouTube, the Instagram is really good, so follow them on Instagram as well, all the bite-sized pieces. Your background is fascinating and I never put the pieces together the fact that you had spent time in Russia and again researched the left never knowing that it would ever mean anything and now you’re using it and now you’re using it and now it makes sense how you have this insight unlike anybody else in America really you’re uniquely qualified so so thanks for that I appreciate it excellent stuff all right there he is that’s Dennis Prager thank you all for being here we’ll see you next time on London Real.
