Dance is an art, a sport and, for many of the guests on this page, a way of life. London Real has spoken to some of the pioneers of breaking, a world champion b-boy, a Pussycat Doll and one of television’s best-known choreographers. They talk about how they found their own style, what hip-hop culture gave them, the discipline behind a performance and how they built careers from dance. Every full interview is free to watch.
From Rock Steady Crew leader Bboy Crazy Legs and German breaking pioneer Bboy Storm to world champion breakdancer Menno Van Gorp, Pussycat Dolls star Kimberly Wyatt, X Factor choreographer Brian Friedman and movement teacher Ido Portal: dance as an art, a sport and a way of life.
Bboy Crazy Legs of the Rock Steady Crew helped shape breaking and the wider hip-hop movement, and talks to Brian Rose about the culture he helped build. Bboy Storm, a German b-boy and choreographer, helped establish breaking in Europe and discusses his style and contribution to hip-hop dance. Menno Van Gorp, a world champion breakdancer and entrepreneur from Holland known as B-Boy Me, explains how to create a style of your own, drawing on years of competing at the top of the sport.
Kimberly Wyatt, a singer, dancer and choreographer, talks about her time in the Pussycat Dolls and her work as a judge on Got to Dance. Brian Friedman describes how he went from his early days in dance to shaping pop performances as a choreographer and creative director, and to judging on shows such as The X Factor. Ido Portal, the Israeli movement teacher, explains how his unorthodox fitness practice grew into a movement culture of its own.
