“I make a distinction between the Shadow Government and the Deep State.”
Today’s livestream guest might just be the most decorated and knowledgeable whistleblower to join us on London Real. Few subjects captivate like the clandestine world of the CIA, undercover espionage, and the hidden workings behind the curtain of political leadership, and few people have been closer to the heart of the CIA’s operations than this man.
Kevin Shipp is a former CIA officer and anti terrorism expert turned whistleblower who has dedicated his life to exposing the hidden machinations of power within the US government.
After 17 years of service in the CIA, in which Kevin held high-profile roles across counterintelligence, counterterrorism, protective operations, and internal security, he risked everything in 2011 to speak out against what he describes as the CIA’s misuse of the State Secrets Privilege – a mechanism he believes is used to conceal misconduct and corruption.
“The top 20% of the CIA, especially at the highest levels, they’re malignant narcissists. They do not care about human life. Now the 80% below, there’s a lot of good patriotic American loving people just doing their job. But the 20%, that’s where the darkness and the evil is.”
During his time at the agency, Kevin was awarded multiple honors, including two CIA Meritorious Unit Citations, three Exceptional Performance Awards, and a Medallion for his covert overseas operations.
Kevin has since become a vocal critic of what he calls the “Shadow Government” and the “Deep State.” He defines the Shadow Government as the CIA’s control over elected bodies like Congress, the Judiciary, and even the White House, operating behind a veil of secrecy.
The Deep State, he argues, comprises military-industrial contractors and the intelligence-industrial complex, which shape US foreign policy without public input. Kevin claims that together these entities run an unelected government that sets policies with far-reaching consequences, from foreign wars to domestic surveillance.
Kevin’s fascinating new book, “Twilight of the Shadow Government: How Transparency Will Kill the Deep State”, delves into how intelligence agencies have strayed from their original mission of serving the nation. Instead, Kevin argues they have entrenched themselves in corporate power, Wall Street, and even media influence, wielding control over US politics and censoring dissent.
“The CIA is on their own side. It’s about the self-perpetuation and concealment of the illegal drug running, and the arms running and the many things that they have done. They’re on their own side, and they want the promotion and expansion of the CIA.”
Throughout his career, Kevin held pivotal roles, including serving as a protective agent for the Director of Central Intelligence, managing high-risk protective operations for the Counterterrorism Center, and training allied government operatives in counterintelligence.
His work often put him at the heart of critical national security issues, from safeguarding CIA assets to managing the protective detail for the President of Afghanistan post-9/11.
Since leaving the CIA, Kevin has become a prominent speaker, author, and advocate for government accountability. He appears frequently in documentaries, interviews, and conferences, challenging audiences to reconsider the unchecked power of intelligence agencies.
“Excessive secrecy breeds corruption. It’s time to demand transparency and hold these institutions accountable to constitutional principles.”
Kevin believes the US is at a crossroads. He argues that restoring public trust requires dismantling the secrecy that shields the Shadow Government and Deep State. Through his work, Kevin continues to advocate for transparency, constitutional values, and a renewed awareness of the forces that shape policy behind closed doors.
I’m looking forward to this. Kevin spent a long time in the beating heart of the agency so he understands the inner workings at play and knows just how far the influence of the CIA goes, and what role they play on the global stage.
It takes courage to challenge, and Kevin’s insights highlight the complex realities of modern governance and just how little we really know about what we hold true.

“Divide and conquer was the operating principle of the British Empire, as it sought to exert its influence around the globe. It should come as little surprise it’s also a tactic the CIA uses.”
