As part of our continuing quest to bring you the most important names in the world of business, technology and finance, I’m delighted to be joined by today’s guest, Tim Draper, who is one of the most significant venture capital investors of the last 30 years. He is also a visionary entrepreneur and in more recent years a willing spokesperson for Bitcoin, Blockchain and Decentralisation.
To say Tim is a huge figure in the technology investment sphere would be an understatement, in fact so influential is Tim that it is something of a privilege to steal some of his time to sit down and discuss the current state of play and what the future holds for all of us.
Tim is the founder of Draper Associates, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and the Draper Venture Network, a global network of venture capital funds. He is possibly the most prominent supporter of entrepreneurship and burgeoning talent in the technology world and is regarded as a global thought leader whose reputation for being ahead of the game precedes him.
When Tim speaks, people listen, in fact, it is for this reason the major networks scramble for his attention, and why his thoughts on Bitcoin and the blockchain make for such comfortable reading, especially during the choppy waters we are currently navigating.
Tim is a sharply intelligent individual, whose knowledge and understanding of technology and business make him acutely aware of the finest details of everything we’ve seen unfolding particularly these last 2 years. He is listed as one of the top 100 most powerful people in finance by Worth Magazine, the top 20 most influential people in Crypto by CryptoWeekly, top 10 on the Forbes Midas List, and ranked in the top 50 most influential Harvard Alumni.
This breadth of wisdom and understanding helped him foresee the power and potential of cryptocurrency, and when in 2014 Tim won a US Marshall’s auction, purchasing 50,000 Bitcoin that had been seized from the Silk Road, many in the financial world sat up and took note.
Tim believes that Bitcoin will reach $250k in the not too distant future and that fiat currencies are a thing of the past.
“This is a really critical time in human history. It’s really an exciting time in human history… But there’s gonna be a lot of wild tumultuous waves along the way. But one Bitcoin is still worth one Bitcoin. It’s all these other currencies that are very volatile as they slowly disappear from us.”
He believes passionately in moving forward, embracing change and looking to the future. The values of freedom and trust underpin this outlook and the reason why smart contracts, the blockchain and decentralisation make for such an appealing new perspective.
Tim’s significant investments are too many to mention but his track record in being on the right side of change, make Tim a man whose words are worth their weight in Gold or maybe that should be Bitcoin. He is credited with inventing viral marketing after making an early investment in Hotmail, and has also invested in Skype, Tesla, Coinbase, Robinhood, SpaceX, Tezos, and Bancor among many more success stories.
It may be a worrying time for many, and confusing for the rest, but, when a man with the wisdom and experience of Tim Draper shines a light on the path most likely, it really is time to follow that lead.
