‘Building the world’s preeminent and most-trusted decentralised finance ecosystem.’
On today’s livestream we welcome a true visionary with his sights set on transforming finance as we know it.
John Patrick Mullin is a forward-thinking entrepreneur, educator, blockchain expert and investor who has over a decade’s experience operating in the blockchain and digital assets space.
John is the CEO and co-founder of both MANTRA and SOMA, two pioneering ventures that merge traditional finance with blockchain’s transformative potential.
John’s interest in cryptocurrency began like so many others with Bitcoin back in 2013, and with a dual Master’s degree in Management and Economics, John’s work with a major Chinese state-owned bank saw him analysing various emerging technologies from blockchain to AI and machine learning.
While working in traditional finance, he built a FinTech community in Shanghai, creating events and writing about the burgeoning digital asset space in China. Realising his passion for entrepreneurship, John left his bank role to become one of the founding partners of a crypto exchange in Hong Kong.
Although that initial venture didn’t fully align with the market’s timing, it signalled his commitment to the blockchain space and set him on a path of continuous innovation.
Today, John leads MANTRA, a Layer 1 blockchain specifically designed for tokenising real-world assets (RWAs). MANTRA integrates traditional compliance frameworks into its core, enabling the secure and regulated tokenisation of assets, such as real estate, stocks, and even luxury items.
This highly scalable network allows diverse assets to be represented digitally on-chain, making tokenisation accessible and compliant across multiple jurisdictions.
According to John, tokenising real-world assets like real estate or equities offers investors an inclusive, efficient financial ecosystem with enhanced liquidity and transparency.
John explains that the concept of tokenising RWAs has evolved over multiple blockchain cycles, and is a far cry from the buzz of 2019 and the DeFI Summer of 2020, with an increase in asset quality like US treasuries, which have become one of the “hottest products in crypto” at the moment given the interest rate.
For John, this shift isn’t just a rebranding but a response to blockchain’s true potential to bridge traditional finance and DeFi.
“As regulatory frameworks progress and technology advances, adoption is likely to accelerate rapidly.”
John believes that traditional financial systems have long faced issues like restricted access and inefficiencies. In contrast, tokenisation empowers everyday investors by making high-value assets accessible in fractional form, expanding opportunities for wealth creation.
However, John is also realistic about the challenges that remain. A key issue with tokenisation is the need for specialised blockchains that integrate both technical and legal frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance, robust security, and scalability.
MANTRA addresses these needs, making it a compelling option for institutional investors looking to venture into the blockchain space.
John foresees an acceleration in RWA adoption as regulatory frameworks advance and financial institutions see blockchain’s benefits. Just like commercial real estate, where institutional investors are beginning to recognise the advantages of tokenised assets for portfolio diversification and yield optimisation.
For John, the progression toward tokenisation of real-world assets will reshape traditional finance and offer broader financial inclusion by allowing even small investors access to assets that were previously out of reach.
“Our tagline is – unlocking the 16 trillion dollar RWA industry. In fact, $16 trillion is probably too small, frankly speaking.”
MANTRA’s mission is to bring security, compliance, and accessibility to DeFi, transforming the blockchain space into one that both retail and institutional investors can trust.
John is a man on a mission, as much an educator as entrepreneur, who dedicates himself to expanding awareness and understanding of blockchain.
A regular speaker at some of the world’s most respected universities, including Harvard, London Business School, and Peking University, and a notable presence at the world’s leading summits and crypto industry events, John believes we’re experiencing a transformative moment in finance, one where blockchain technology brings unprecedented potential for inclusivity, transparency, and wealth generation.
As he sees it, tokenisation is not just a trend; it’s the future of finance. By bridging traditional finance and blockchain, MANTRA aims to create a compliant, scalable ecosystem that empowers users and makes secure investments accessible globally.
I’m looking forward to this, we’re on the precipice of what can only be described as a revolutionary era in the world of finance. So make sure you tune in and share the link with all budding entrepreneurs, investors and tech enthusiasts alike.
“Tokenisation may well be the final piece in the puzzle for equitable wealth distribution.”
