Max Keiser on London Real: Bitcoin, Banks and Finance

Max Keiser is an American broadcaster, filmmaker and former stockbroker, and one of the earliest high-profile advocates of Bitcoin. He co-hosted the Keiser Report with Stacy Herbert on RT, the Russian state-funded channel, from 2009 until they left in 2022, co-founded the Hollywood Stock Exchange, and has since been reported as an adviser to El Salvador’s president Nayib Bukele on Bitcoin.

Brian Rose has interviewed Keiser three times on London Real, in 2013 and twice in 2021. They have talked about crowdfunding a political campaign outside the mainstream parties, central banking and quantitative easing, and why Keiser believes Bitcoin is the answer to centralised finance.

Key ideas

Bitcoin as the answer to centralised finance

Keiser argues that Bitcoin is a decentralised alternative to money controlled by central banks and commercial banks, and he describes it as digital gold.

Distrust of central banks

In his 2021 interviews he criticised central bank money printing, associated with figures such as former Federal Reserve chair Ben Bernanke, which he argues erodes the value of savings.

Bank or Bitcoin

The second 2021 episode asks viewers who they would rather trust with their money: a bank or Bitcoin. Keiser’s answer is Bitcoin, which he says cannot be frozen or debased by any single institution.

Funding politics from the crowd

In 2013 Keiser talked about using crowdfunding to back political candidates outside the main parties, and the challenges of getting non-mainstream campaigns heard.
