Robert Greene is an American author, born in Los Angeles in 1959, who writes about power, strategy and human behaviour. His books include The 48 Laws of Power, The Art of Seduction, The 33 Strategies of War, Mastery and The Laws of Human Nature, and draw heavily on examples from history.
Brian Rose has interviewed Greene twice on London Real, in 2014 and 2020. They talked about the reaction to his books, working with 50 Cent, knowing yourself, mastering your emotions and understanding what drives other people.
Both interviews are listed below with a short summary.
The Laws Of Human Nature: How To Detach From Your Emotions & Master Self-Control (June 2020). The clearest introduction to his ideas about people and self-control. For his earlier books on power and strategy, watch Power, Seduction And War (2014).
Speaking in 2014, Greene said the most important step is to know yourself, and only then to trust and follow your instincts.
In his 2020 interview, Greene argued that self-control starts with stepping back from your own emotional reactions, so that you can see situations and people more clearly.
The Laws of Human Nature is about understanding people’s drives, even those they hide from themselves. Greene argues that real empathy leads to insight and lets you see behind the masks people wear.
In The Laws of Human Nature, Greene encourages readers to resist the pull of the group in order to develop their own singular sense of purpose.
