The Brian For Mayor London Boroughs Tour - Hackney

Last week I began my London Boroughs Tour in Homerton, Hackney. It was such an honour to finally get out there in the community and speak to YOU about the problems, issues and challenges you are facing within your community.

It was such a pleasure to welcome community leaders and local citizens to come and speak with me face to face, so I can listen to your concerns while providing a roadmap of my plans to transform London, a place I consider to be the greatest city on the planet.

The role of Mayor is simple, you have two jobs:

• The First is to LISTEN to the citizens
• The Second is to SERVE the citizens

Our current Mayor of London has failed to deliver on both fronts while the promises he made to YOU back in 2016 have clearly not been met.

He has consistently blamed the government and bemoaned a lack of support, yet, it is his own incompetence and fiscal mismanagement of the transport system, housing, and of course our criminal services that is at the heart of the problems we now face.

We are living in extremely challenging times and 2020 has been a year like no other, which has only served to exacerbate the underlying problems and lack of investment and funding provided to local councils and therefore our community leaders.

Our younger generation are counting the cost, but if this worrying trend is not addressed soon, things will only spiral out of control. We have to find solutions. We must work together. We need to look at new ideas, from a fresh perspective and forge a new direction.

Since Sadiq Khan became Mayor:

• Violent crime has increased year on year
• The Police Force has seen funding reduced by £110M
• Housing needs have fallen woefully short of the 80,000 new homes a year promised

In Homerton YOU told me your concerns regarding the complete lack of ideas, leadership and support currently coming from City Hall. Many of you are just plain fed up and tired of being given false hope and promises that aren’t being met.
