Master Mantak Chia - Sexual Exercises For Men: The Taoist Practices Explained

This is the most-watched video London Real has ever published on YouTube. In it, Taoist master Mantak Chia explains the exercises he teaches men for sexual energy and control: the practices he calls “sharpening the knife”, prostate contractions, and learning to separate orgasm from ejaculation.

It is frank, it is a little eccentric, and it has been viewed millions of times. Here is a plain-English guide to what Master Chia teaches in the clip.

The Taoist idea behind it

Taoist sexual practice treats sexual energy as something to cultivate rather than spend. In Chia’s teaching, men lose energy through frequent ejaculation, and the goal of these exercises is control: to enjoy sex and orgasm while choosing when, or whether, to ejaculate. He calls this “orgasm without ejaculation” and describes it as the key to the whole system.

Step one: “sharpening the knife”

Brian Rose asks the obvious question: women in Chia’s system practise with a jade egg, so what do men do? The first practice, Chia says, is what he calls “sharpening the knife.” It is a daily massage routine with a warm oil, which he says makes the penis stronger and less sensitive.

Asked how often, his answer is every day, until you have control: “If you want to be good at it, you have to practise.”

Step two: contract the prostate muscle

The second practice is learning to contract the muscle around the prostate. Chia’s test is one many people will know as a pelvic floor exercise: it’s the muscle you use to stop the flow when you urinate. He calls the prostate the male G-spot, and describes doing quick sets of contractions throughout the day, including while sitting at work, building up to hundreds a day.

Step three: stop at 80 percent

The last part of the clip puts the two together. Chia describes the “point of no return” and teaches stopping well before it, at around 80 percent of the way to climax. You pause, contract the same muscle, and in his words bring the orgasm “upward” through the body to the brain. With practice, he says, men can have sex as often as they like while ejaculating far less often.

He also gives rough guidelines by age for how often men should ejaculate, and ties the whole practice back to Chinese texts he says are thousands of years old.

A note before you try anything

Mantak Chia teaches a traditional Taoist practice, and this clip reflects his views and experience. It is not medical advice. Pelvic floor exercises are widely used, but if you have any prostate, urinary or sexual health concerns, please speak to a doctor rather than relying on a video.

Transcript: Master Mantak Chia – Sexual Exercises For Men: The Taoist Practices Explained

0:00 Brian Rose: So the women practise with the egg. What do the men do?

0:04 Mantak Chia: For the men, the first thing they have to practise is what we call “sharpening the knife”. The key is very simple. You get an oil, like baby oil. In the cold or in winter, warm it up first, so the blood flows.

0:33 Mantak Chia: Then you pull back the skin (a lot of people are not circumcised), put the oil in your hand and rub, especially on the head of the penis, fifty times. That makes it strong and less sensitive. Then the right side fifty times, the left side fifty times, and down fifty times.

1:08 Brian Rose: How often am I doing this?

1:10 Mantak Chia: You have to do it every day, until you can control it. If you want to be good at it, you have to practise. So that’s sharpening the knife. That’s number one.

1:35 Mantak Chia: Number two, you have to learn how to contract the prostate gland. Here’s how to test whether you’re doing it right: when you urinate, you stop the flow. That’s the prostate muscle. A lot of people can’t separate it from the anus, and they don’t know how this energy system works.

2:05 Mantak Chia: The male G-spot is in the prostate. So when you contract the prostate at the front, you feel energy activate. You contract: one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.

2:24 Brian Rose: Do I do that when I’m urinating, to practise?

2:27 Mantak Chia: Once you know that muscle, you just practise. Fifty times, sitting at work, very quickly, in under a minute. You do it until you feel the expansion. The pressure of ejaculation comes from the prostate contracting, so you’re exercising that muscle. A lot of men have prostate problems, and this is the exercise for that. [unclear] You need three hundred a day. You do it until you feel it.

3:21 Brian Rose: And this is what you call orgasm without ejaculation?

3:25 Mantak Chia: Yes. When you get it, it’s very quick. When the orgasm is coming up, you’re controlling it.

3:44 Mantak Chia: Once you can control it, the next thing is to massage the testicles. Your hands have energy, which we call chi. Like Einstein’s formula, E equals mc squared: you are energy, you have matter, the mass, and you have the fire. If you rub the testicles, the material changes to energy. That’s the key.

4:24 Mantak Chia: Because when you can prolong and not ejaculate, you don’t have to ejaculate every time. So there’s a very simple number. If you’re 20 years old, at least every four days. You can have sex ten or twenty times in those four days, but no ejaculation, and after four days you can if you want. If you’re 30 years old, eight days. You can have sex many times, but you don’t have to ejaculate every time.

5:09 Mantak Chia: If you don’t do that, the body has to rebuild the sperm, and that drains your energy too much. But most men don’t know how to have an orgasm without ejaculation, because they haven’t learned how to massage the penis and contract the prostate gland. They cannot control it.

5:38 Mantak Chia: So you do the sharpening of the knife first, and you do the three hundred a day. Then you try it: you can have sex and practise more, until you find you can control it.

5:49 Mantak Chia: You have to understand the peak of orgasm. If you want more, there’s no more: that’s ejaculation. So near the peak you stop, and now you bring the orgasm upward. That’s the whole key when you make love: creating so much orgasm.

6:29 Mantak Chia: Here’s the peak. When you go over the peak, you go down: you ejaculate, you finish. So you go up to about 80 percent. Don’t go beyond that. We call it the point of no return. If you go past it, you lose it, and in my case it’s sixteen days.

7:01 Brian Rose: And in my case, how many days? One month?

7:04 Mantak Chia: One month, yes. But in that month you can have sex as many times as you want, if you can do this process.

7:14 Mantak Chia: So back to the detail. You get up to 80 percent, and at 80 percent you stop. Pull out a little bit, not completely. You rest, you control, and you contract, the same contraction you’ve been practising. You feel the orgasm, and now you bring it upward. It’s travelling up your body to the brain.

7:44 Mantak Chia: This was written down 4,800 years ago in Chinese texts: that this arousal and orgasmic energy can heal you. [unclear] That’s the whole key.
