James Rickards, often called Jim Rickards, is an American lawyer, investment banker and author who writes about financial crises, currencies and gold. He was general counsel of the hedge fund Long-Term Capital Management and negotiated its 1998 rescue overseen by the Federal Reserve. His books include Currency Wars, The Death of Money, The Road to Ruin and MoneyGPT.
Brian Rose has interviewed Rickards on London Real 13 times between 2016 and 2025, making him one of the show’s most frequent guests. They have covered gold, inflation, banking crises, the future of the dollar, US elections, war and the risks of artificial intelligence in finance.
Every episode is listed below in order with a short summary.
The A.I. Market Meltdown (August 2025). His most recent full conversation, covering sanctions, recession, market bubbles and AI. For his background and his case for gold, watch The Road To Ruin (2016).
In his first London Real interview in 2016, Rickards suggested keeping about 10% of your assets in physical gold as protection against the next crisis. Speaking in 2025, he praised Russia’s central bank for building up gold reserves, which he described as an asset that cannot be frozen, hacked or traced.
Rickards argues that financial crises are getting more severe, that each bailout is larger than the one before, and that a point may come when a crisis is too big for the Federal Reserve to handle. He compares the process to falling dominoes.
Speaking in 2023, he said the world is moving towards separate supply chains and that the dollar may lose its role as the global reserve currency.
In his 2024 and 2025 interviews, Rickards argued that AI can make bank runs and market crashes faster and worse, because many systems react to the same signals at once. He says computers lack the gut feel that, in his telling, has helped humans avoid nuclear war in the past.
