Joe Cross – Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead

If you’ve missed the juicing phenomenon that took the health world by storm this year, then allow us to introduce you to one of it’s patron saints – Mr Joe Cross. Joe, who was suffering from a serious autoimmune disease, was 310lbs and on steroids had had enough and knew that a change of lifestyle was in order. His aim was simply to abandon the conventional medications and pills, which were taking their toll on his health overall, and to only drink fresh fruit and juiced vegetables. It was a drastic bid to regain control of his life and his body – and it paid off!

His journey was recorded in a feature length documentary (which is available on Netflix) called ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’. It traces his complete passage from depressed and overweight to revitalised and, as he likes to say, “rebooted”.

Since the movie it’s been his aim to share the knowledge and encourage others to abandon the junk food of restaurants and supermarkets in favour of juicing. He exhibits the best of the Australian character – fiery, funny and down-to-earth genuine – which makes him a great guest and an even better educator. So, suspend your disbelief and don’t miss this weeks episode, it might just change your life.

Joe is the best. I watched his first movie, made up my mind to change things before I had to have a hip replacement surgery due to an accident. I had never been overweight my entire life, but after getting hurt I could not walk correctly, I was in pain, out of energy and also depressed and going further downhill. After crying and feeling sorry for myself one night I had just had enough. I thought about what I had watched on Joes’ movies, and the next day I went and purchased a juicer and a bunch of organic produce.… Read more »

I did saw the movie while back but that interview is close and personal with a great human being behind the movie.
What a down to earth personality . Thank you again Brian !

I must say that I am impressed with this interview. It is nothing like I’ve ever heard on healthy eating. Impressed me so much so that I took my netflix account and watched his documentary, fat sick and nearly dead. I was amazed by what I saw on the documentary, and the results that people got throughout the video. I’m going to watch the sequel and will do my own little fast somehow soon. I don’t have a lot of issues with weight loss anymore since I used to be 300 pounds. I got it under control on my first… Read more »

This guy is such a legend. Thank you for interviewing him as its really important to get the message of clean eating out there. It would be amazing if you could interview Dr Douglas Graham!! please look him up he’s one amazing guy!

Love the interview, not cool that you cut out Joe’s daily routine and or success habits / success secrets to push us into a paid subscription or membership to the ‘Academy”. On youtube, you claimed the entire interview was free for those who register here. This is not true. Maybe you can take the route Joe did and take this program to netflix and or amazon to create revenue instead of being dishonest about the free content or lack of. Yes you should make money, your production is valuable and worth paying for, but I am not inclined to buy… Read more »

Joe has an agenda , and also a product ,
yet he does’nt preach , not once, not even in the movie – he is absolutely true to his words : change yourself-change the world.
Inspiring!

In keeping up with the assignment about watching the episode and writing about it. I really enjoyed how this talk mentioned getting back to Mother Earth. Without the environment humans cannot survive, but without humans the earth has and will continue to go on. The earth provides us with so much beauty and abundance. I’m happy to see more London Realers are juicing more and more.

There is a common pattern among all the great interviews at LR, and in Brian’s messages too; ADD VALUE . This is slowly changing the way I perceive what I am doing in my life right now.

William Peynsaert

That’s the number one message I derive from the best interviews as well

David Sweetnam

I think you mean the part under ‘success stories’.

Yeah, now that we’re here on LRA it does suck that we have to go elsewhere to see the rest of it. Why not post full episodes here, and any free content on YouTube/Vimeo without the ‘secrets’..?

“The best way to change the world is: Change yourself.” Joe described that at 32 he started this unhealthy lifestyle. At 40 he had the realization and change. At 48 he is helping others to love plants to live healthier. It’s amazing to see how much can happen in one life. How impactful every decision is! I have been juicing for about 2-3 years now. Fun to hear his favorite recipes. I should befriend a farmer next!!

About 20mins into the interview Joe talks about Juicing and capturing the natural elements that go into to creating a vegetable or a fruit i.e. sunshine, plant water (distilled water), micro nutrients. Modern science is not always able to capture these natural elements but instead replicates the chemical; biological formula which cannot replicate the sunshine, plant water and nutrients/photo synthesis process. So, I think that’s an important factor if anyone is thinking of trying to replicate Joe’s success by taking ‘off the shelf’ supplements to treat illness/disease. The US Government holds the medical patent behind cannabis, which it lists as… Read more »

Great interview, but where is the part you cut out from the interview?
Would be a shame to see you only post partial interviews as that’s the core reason people come here.

William Peynsaert

so the core reason people come here is to see partial interviews?

Great interview! I’ve been a fan of Joe’s since the film Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead came out, which caused my family to make a shift in lifestyle.

New studio looks mature and represents your game-upping goals, I think.

I did notice Joe’s water glass coming into the shot when you were in focus Brian.

Looking forward to the second film, and of course next week’s London Real episode 🙂

Today, I watched both parts of “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead”, then the London Real interview. In the first movie, by the time Joe got a call from Phil for help, I was crying. Everyone on both sides of my family is overweight and in poor health, with enough heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and strokes to scare myself to death. I can see my older brother going down the same path, and can’t help but imagine his now-5-year old daughter visiting him in the hospital some day, just like we have visited our father. — I was a chubby kid… Read more »

So, how did it go? Any improvment? I really like your idea of using the pulp as I don’t believe in throwing food away. Thanks for sharing your story Vlad, it’s inspiring to see that there is always a way.

Making friends with a farmer is another great topic! I was struggling with food here in Sonora, Mexico. I mentioned my diet needs regarding the Bulletproof diet to my neighbor. There’s no butter here. No one knows why because the cows are plant fed. My neighbor hooked me up with a farmer who now provides me with plant fed chicken, eggs and raw milk. I make my own butter in the blender. I’m all about friending the farmer.

Couple of thoughts:
* (obvious one) Earth is water, we are water, drink water
* creating movie = accountability buddy
* if you want to succeed, succeed in America
* power of distribution networks aka Netflix
