The yoga teacher that Gabor reffered in this interview, goes by the name of “Sadhguru”. Sadhguru is a person with immense knowledge, wisdom, and following. It would be interesting to have Sadhguru on one of the episodes with Brian.

Dr. Gabor Mate was recommended to me by my fiance. I have listened to him a little in the past, but I have recently come to learn that me and my fiance are the only 2 stable, responsible, people in my 9 month old grandson’s life, who are not using substances and alcohol. We are preparing our lives to include a child. I started listening to Dr. Mate daily a few days ago because I want to make sure I am the best parenting, grandmother I can be.

wow wow wow I have learn soooo much in this video and I am only half way through it really really touched me when Dr Gabor said: “Trauma is not the fact that U have pain or sadness, trauma is when U are alone with the pain or sadness”. I grew up in a very dysfunctional family, being hit by my parents everyday, and the next day they pretend like nothing, then I discover I was lesbian and my family was super catholic, so I kept silent for more than 10 years suffering in silence, because I was terrify to… Read more »

Makes so much sense as to why kids grow up thinking their coaches, teachers, even gang members care about them more. If they are the only ones giving them the attention, time and care they don’t get at home, they will feel at home with the gang members over their parents. They will feel more at home with the babysitter than with the never available mother. I have seen it WAY too often. Now I know the logic behind it.

In a divorce situation, which can be akin to success, iits never overnight. The child/ children suffer and experience ‘trauma’ because they are not allowed to be part of the experience. They just are in the middle of of and have to experience it and their emotional turmoil is never given any weight. Brian, I think Gabor is one of most important guests. The insight his work offers is immeasurable greater than anybody else. He talks about and for those innocent members of our society, which we say are our most precious possession….and yet hurt them the most.

Couldn’t agree more! I think it’s especially important in this medium where it reaches, in a profound and meaningful way, a more ego driven male segment of society where such modes of thought are rarely considered. Fair to say, no?

Love it!

that is so truly sad. It is no wonder they act out or change in one way or another and often times blame themselves. To be so hurt and have your life destroyed over your home falling apart and have no say as to whether or not there is a chance of making it work. What the kid can do to make it work for the parents to just get along or things of that sort. Poor darlings. I am an avid babysitter and I hurt for the children in my life, and their friends at school and neighbors.

Gabor Matè is *THE* best! He is so smart and wise and his theories are so important to be, not only heard, but explored and embraced more by the mental health community and health care in general. I love Dr. Matè.
