Dan Pena – Just F*cking Do It

[sg_popup id=”15″ event=”onload”][/sg_popup]

It is the day you have all been waiting for. Dan Pena is back.

Most of you will know the love-hate relationship I have with my hard-ass, ball-breaking mentor.

You’ve seen the castle episode, and many of you tell me your favourite London Real episode is Dan’s first conversation with me two years ago.

I remember that day like it was yesterday.

I went home after the shoot with my mind reeling. Quite honestly, I was in a bad mood. Dan had gotten inside my head, which I now realise is his speciality.

I knew deep down that I, and London Real, could be a lot more, and it took an angry, old, former oil tycoon shouting in my face to finally wake up to what this show could really become.

Despite everything we have achieved in the last eighteen months at London Real – the Academy, the Business Accelerator programme, the Summit – don’t expect this conversation to have lots of “well done Brians”, or “I am proud of yous” in it!

Dan gets on my case almost right away. Just like the first time we met, he has this look in his eye like “Is this it Brian!”

I’ve learned to get over the idea of pleasing or satisfying Dan Pena. And frankly, I realise that is not the point.

Dan is obsessed with high performance. That’s why, as he tells me in this conversation, he wants success for his mentees more than they want it for themselves.

And it has nothing to do with charity and goodwill. As he explains to me, unfulfilled potential just p***ses him off!

In this episode, Dan goes deeper than he ever has into his development as a businessman and a success coach.

There is a level of vulnerability and honesty that I haven’t heard from Dan before, and after I was done talking to him, I felt I understood the old man much more.

Dan tells me some crazy stories about the relationships he had with his own mentors like Costa Gratsos and Jim Newman.

Dan’s approach to mentorship is nuanced. It is much more than kissing ass or latching on to the success of others.

He talks me through how you cultivate a relationship, create a bond of loyalty and respect with mentors.

Dan gets very emotional when he talks about the men who influenced his life and made him man he is today.

He also goes over the finer, more subtle points of what it really means to upgrade your peer group.

Fundamentally, success is about being able to take risks.

As much as I hate admitting it, there is never a bad time to get the Pena-treatment. It is in our natures to fall back into the comfort zone, to take the short cut.

And let’s face it, we live in a culture where playing small and avoiding potential are positively rewarded.

It takes an angry, shouting, old school taskmaster like Dan to hold us accountable to what we claim our dreams and aspirations really are.

Believe me, this is conversation is no bromance reunion. It was no soppy man-date.

Dan gets right in my grill, looks at me with his steely grey eyes and rattles my cage all over again.

I was ready for him, but that doesn’t make his impact any less effective.

There’s no calmer, more reflective Dan here folks – this is as alpha male as it gets.

We talk about everything from killing bears to how Dan won the respect of Massai warriors.

You are going to love this episode, but quite honestly, I urge you to prepare yourself. Dan really brings it, and the result is as uncomfortable as it is motivating.

Buckle up. Dan Pena is back, and he is meaner, more honest and merciless than ever.

Enjoy.

Love him or hate him, the results speak gor themselves.
I’d much rather have him as my mentor than a ‘life coach’. And I’ve met plenty of life coach. Shit, I almost became one!

Dan is so entertaining to watch, having such conviction and passion at his age. A lot of the actual content I disagree with of course, hes a bit old school ‘yuppie’ type. Modern high performance should be more about driving emmission free cars than rollers, avoiding wars rather than being prepared for them, once you’ve made ‘enough’ money taking time on your art/science/sport rather than wasting brain power on how to spend on fancy houses and shit – shoppings for women.

This guy is a FAR CRY from Dorian Yates. And have we realized that the concept of alpha male is bullshit yet? And if it weren’t, I would have to point out that an alpha male wouldn’t need to tell everyone he is one. I’ll take CT Fletcher over this asswipe any day. Take your Hitler and Mussolini portraits and shove ’em, buddy. I’ve never hit my son in his life, and he’s the most respectful, driven and hard-working kid I know. So much hate… Just read this on Reddit -> https://www.reddit.com/r/DanPena/comments/4mg3wc/heres_is_where_dan_pena_fails_his_grads/ “Dan presents himself as a M&A guy when he’s not and doesn’t appear to really understand how it’s done. Then when people arrive for the week with him they discover that it’s really all just a motivational seminar in which he swears like a 14 year with anger management problems and calls everyone a cunt. Then towards the end he finally jumps from his motivational material to M&A and glosses over it. The entire point behind it is to get suckers to hopefully bird dog deals for him which somehow… Read more »

I have enjoyed so many interviews on London Real from Dr Gabor Mate, Tom Bilyeu, Danny Jones, Will Young and Matt Ellis, to name a few. Why would you endorse a man who promotes hate? This corporate, mercurial culture is outdated and so detrimental to the future of our time living on planet Earth. My philosophy is that we are all here to help each other. I cannot see where Dan Pena has a voice any more!

Surely he is not for everyone, but once you get beyond his bravado, he is a very loving and kind soul that desperately wants you to not settle for less than your best, and be willing to do the very hard work to get there! My advise is give him the benefit of the doubt, you will find a kernel of truth and perhaps even some motivation.

I made it to 1 hour and 18 minutes and that is as far as I can go. This person is so full of anger and hatred, it’s hard to watch. Is everything just about dominance and money for him? I love LondonReal usually for the surprising twists and turns in peoples lives and because it shows much more than the facade. In this case, Brian is giving this man the stage that let’s him bathe in his narcissism without ever asking a critical question. Super disappointing.

I realised something today by just reading this video title. I immediately pictured Dan Pena shouting the video title in my face. I had long lost something since high school but I didn’t know what it was until now. Back in highschool I had the self-talk of a nasty boss and that made me always pull the trigger and work on my goals. I also see Brian’s side of view as well,,, for instance I made the custom programming for this interactive art piece called “Ayahuasca Purge” and I would also agree that DMT and Ayahuasca are about the journey. I put all the terrestrial problems in the question below but on another level I’m not even convinced my consciousness is in my body. I feel like my body and consciousness are an example of quantum entanglement. Like my body is a receiver antenna and my soul is being transmitted from somewhere else and when the body dies the soul doesn’t go anywhere… Read more »

So, if consciousness is not “in” your body, where is? And what is consciousness btw!? Much like spandrels in architecture, they are not what is, but are a consequence of what is not. I like to think of consciousness as an emergent phenomenon. In an abstract way, each of us has our own values and beliefs, and through language we communicate and interact according to these beliefs, which are really illusions if you think about. Even language itself; one might ask “where” is language? Another “ethereal” object. Perhaps its just a mechanism of interaction that enabled a survival and is… Read more »

Good post. There will always be antagonism between regulation and free markets. In a truly free market, monopolies will be inevitable. They say competition is good, but only for the consumer. For the producers its awful. It means constant innovation, which is expensive, it means reducing prices and costs, which leads to smaller profits. The very way that money is created is upon a monopoly. If it were a true free market, shouldn’t anyone be allowed to create their own currency? Well, they are, and there are hundreds available in the UK, and even all the crypto currencies. So, things… Read more »

There’s a better, happier, less agitated and aggressive way to be successful, and Brian knows this because he’s had people on his show that live it, and that simply being present and mindful of what you’re doing. Thats quite a good response; i want to disagree with it, but it is not disprovable on face-value. Sure, negging brings people down a notch or two and makes them go intraspective. For others it puts them almost into a trance since they have never received a negative comment before. On the other hand, the castle, the flash cars -> yup, all attractors. In the final say, having not been to the seminar i feel it would be unfair to comment on the efficacy. Even then; how could one evaluate it? I did ask Dan directly how many people come… Read more »

I agree, this is an elaborate strategy. He claims that he gives away his information for free. The ebook is a 34 page sales pitch for his paid seminar for a select few. He has some sound advice.

Thank you for the great talk! Much respect to Dan Pena and Brian Rose and all LondonReal team for making this talk happened.

Gotta love Dan Pena’s straight up authentic personality. But Brian: don’t London Real academy rules apply to him as well, specially since he’s your mentor? Where is the respect? He called you some really interesting things. By the way, I’ve been unable to exercise freedom of speech on your YouTube channel for a lot less than what Dan gets away with. My comments don’t even post. Nothing against Dan Pena; I like him. I just dislike this double standard. When you pick a weak interviewee, like Jocko Willink or Zoltan Istvan, we are supposed to shut our mouth and pretend… Read more »

Derek Laud (recent guest of LR) also highlighted the importance of authenticity. Name calling aint no big thing; but it also is. See, if you called me a name, i wouldnt care because i dont know you, nor the benchmark to which you would use to make such a judgement. And even if i did care, i would be putting the judgement of a stranger before my own. How stupid is that? But we all fall for it! But, if i knew you, and knew your judgement to be sound, (i.e i respected you and your opinion) id listen very… Read more »

The financial world seems to work on kicking risk where it doesn’t really belong. In a simple example, the most naive investors are the public shareholders. They carry the burden of loss; the CEO and so on, packs up shop and moves on. CDOs, MBS and so, again, risk is kicked down the road. IN some cultures (Hawaiin, I think) actions are considered with the effect on the 7 generations that follow. The central banks are kicking the consequences of actions today, down the road. By the time the problems are manifest, the CEO or Prime Minister has long since… Read more »

You’ve made some good points but just so you know public shareholders are among the richest people on the planet and dominant all rich lists. The stock market is a long term investment tool and should be treated as such. If someone only has £1K and puts it in the market for anything less than a year they should never have invested in the first place. Even when the market drops hard companies will still pay out dividends of 2-5% much better than any no strings attached savings account.

Thats the section of people im talking about, those who have been talked into “investing” a couple of grand into a single company, not the professional investor that has deep pockets and a diversified stock portfolio and such large holdings that they can actually influence company policy. For sure, these guys are rich. (The Trumps, Icahn, Soros, Buffett et al) Though Id agree, “investment” in the stock market for less than a year is more a speculative position – which, when doesnt work out, becomes a long term investment. Even with 50 grand invested paying out 5% isnt gonna make… Read more »

Tell Dan to look into Dragon Naturally Speaking, it’s a voice to text software that would save him tons of time if he’s really that bad at typing.

Thanks for bring him to the studio again Brian. I am looking forward to go the castle and learn from him.

Have you ever taught about interview his wife? I think she would be a great guest (if she agrees).

Loved Dan Pena’s advice in relation to Sam Walton. It resembles advice that my manager told me about responding to every e-mail and every call. Definitely something to take to heart.

Over the last few days, I’ve watched alot of Mr Pena.
Paradigm shift. I have to go to the Castle and my son has to come too (he wants to be an astronaut, I want to be all I can be)
I took it personally when he calls people “cunts and losers”, I realize how much I still am one, but also what I got to do to change it. Do it, just do it.
Within a few days, it took my ambitions to whole new levels, this is on!

Loved the western intro to this, set it up really nicely for a meaningful interview. Dan is someone i find it difficult to come to absolute conclusions about as like we all do, he has multiple layers to his character and trying to ascertain which is his quintessence can be difficult. For example in the castle seminar he seemed his most emotional when recounting his regret at never being able to have “pulled the fucking trigger”, literally, after being combat trained. While i can’t find resonance with his bloodthirst i do believe that he has honest and sincere intentions behind… Read more »

Start by fully implementing the habits he mentions. Kissing frogs is one that really hit me, over communicating (the tacit approval point was something I didn’t consider. Sounds like a key message for anyone in a management position), and then be alright with turning the key. I agree an action item would be nice but that alone could take me months to even begin to internalize. Cheers.

Coming from a QLA mentee…It is amazing at how regressions can happen if you are not pushing your self to the max…day after day. The daily accountability reporting to ensure your are taking big chances and pushing with what NEEDS to get done is a tremendous help. What the year of QLA scars has taught me thus far is that striving towards your goals will never be easy…and the funny thing is, is that once you get used to the grind and it becomes more effortless…that is the point in which you must 10x your efforts and push even harder.… Read more »

This is my favourite interview with Mr Pena so far. Has made me take a good look at myself – really good. I love the part where he went after that gentleman for taking 69 days to reply. Thank you both.

The number is supposed to be higher, he mentioned in this interview that two people made up the 50 billion. In the seminar he has a slide listing some of the value created since ’93. The figure should really be like $100B, but some of the people don’t want to be known.

Brian Mustard

I believe the rough number was over $115B. This was from a couple years ago…and may not include the values from the ones that didn’t want to be disclosed.
