Aubrey De Grey – How To Live Forever

Aubrey de Grey is a true frontiersman, daring to push out against what seems the most natural and unstoppable forces of nature – ageing. He’s not just another voice though, he’s a scientist and identifies ageing as a disease, one that can be cured with the right medicine. His work calls for serious scientific exploration of what causes tissue to age and to then find solutions to those components – what he calls the roadmap to defeat biological ageing. In fact, he believes that the first humans who will live to be 1,000 years old are already alive today!

Ageing, and indeed death, are some of the most colossal challenges to humanity biologically and philosophically. De Grey himself, of course, has caused plenty of controversy with his views. Despite, however, a $20,000 prize to disprove the worthiness of de Grey’s studies (put up by himself and MIT and de Grey’s own foundation) his work still stands, capturing the imagination of molecular biologists and the public alike.

We’re excited this week to welcome him to London Real. With his impressive beard and extensive knowledge on the subject we’re in for something special.

I wonder how Aubrey De Grey and Jack Kruse would discuss this topic.

what it concern me is that with this short life we almost destroy the planet I dont want to imagine what will happen if we live longer

”If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” — Isaac Newton
So imagine what happens if these giants have an opportunity to grow even bigger
It can take so much hard work for ones to gain a high reputation / level of influence
It can take so much time to accumulate knowledge, skill mastery & deep understanding
I wouldn’t trust a 6 year old with solving world problems XD
But giving more time & more opportunities for people like Audrey to do even more good
It only gives me hope..

maybe the longer life span would actually get people to work on changing their behaviors instead of going all YOLO about everything auto pilot single minded living. 😛

I think a great question would have been what can the general public do NOW in regards to diet, stress, etc to slow down the aging process. Still, amazing interview, thank you so much for the interesting topics.

He did answer this in another podcast which he did, I think with Joe Rogan. And the slightly depressing answer was that diet, stress levels, exercise etc. were quite limited in effect on the total complexity of the aging process. He asserts that research on the technological aspects of aging prevention will have a much greater impact for future generations, and of course his research is concentrated on that, so he has not spent time on the things which are being studied by others in various fields. Of course, in general, we already know that reduced stress, improved diet, regular… Read more »

Want to live as long as healthy as possible without the benefit of future life extending technologies? Immediately adopt a 100% plant based diet and exercise at least 30 minutes per day. That all. Don’t believe me? Check out http://www.bluezones.com

Why is there no discussion on this topic. We are on the brink of extending life for hundreds of years at near youthful peak.

There is no discussion because most people will consider this total science fiction. I think the people who are interested tend to be very imaginative and don’t restrain their imaginations like the mass public do.

discussion or not its happening whether or not those people accept its real, let them continue pretending it isn’t real when its finished being developed and die, that’s one less close minded rigid thinking person holding the rest of the species back.
