I’ve rather quiet over the winter. Now we have some cold weather to highlight how good the weather has been lately, and that we’re really changing seasons, I thought it about time to come out of hibernation. And for my grand return, here’s a chart I just knocked up of Bitcoin price against the US Dollar, split in two and zoomed in on the bit between the two bubbles in 2013, comparing that with the gap between the Dec 2013 bubble and today… Take a look. It’s interesting to compare. I thought there would be more similarity, but even so,… Read more »

Have you ever considered Photography ? Or Vloging ? Since you like nature, I think other nature lover would like to see the spot where you go in nature. Or even better, a vlog about you working with the animals, etc.
For the weight I want to loose some too ! We could hold each other accountable :p.

Nice one Ady. How is the Accelerator going for you? And also, how do you find getting up at 5.30 to start your mental prep? What was your routine before this? I really struggle to wake before 6.30 – if I start with meditation, I fall back to sleep (even if sitting up), so I have to do something physical. It takes me a lot of discipline to get up when the clock says so. Cheers, Rob

i don’t know if rising early is an age thing or a state of mind. I’ve always been able to rise early but I also have to get to bed relatively early too, although this isn’t always the case. I believe it comes down to being healthy in ALL areas of ones life and really wanting to do it. Hope this helps. Tim

Hi Rob, I have struggled with getting up early in the past – the main things that are helping me pre-5-5.30am is in bed by 10.30pm, cold shower on rising and write the list of things you wish to do the next day the night before.

Feel: euphoric when i run 10 km by Dec 31st
A lot of the how is the same for all three: be disciplined in daily schedule and just get it done. Wake up early, and use day efficiently, Don’t fall into time killers of web surfing or TV. Keep a positive attitude and celebrate the baby steps of acheivement in between

Goal to sell 100,000 units of my Google Cardboard VR Headsets by the end of 2017.
Physical: To get through a full year of football without missing a game.
Feel: To get through my training without being constantly sore.. Age has something to do with that though.

Is that Aussie rules footy?
Have you tried cold showers/ice baths after exercise to aid recovery and decrease soreness?

Yep, that is correct, AFL..

Cold showers do not do much where I live, it is quite hot generally so it is hard to get a cold shower unless it is the middle of winter. I have not really tried ice baths, I am watching Wim Hoff right now, perhaps he can teach me something about being brave enough to jump into something that has so much of a temperature difference to the outside air. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ken, I think quite a few of us on here are of the same demographic: 40 somethings with an interest in keeping sporty, but a body that isn’t making it easy. Something I found useful was the two bags of frozen veg on the knees after rugby or running. Used to ignore all the fitness advice when I was younger but the idea of ice on inflamed muscles (RICE treatment) has been helpful.

With you there, I use ice a fair bit as well as compression. I guess the main issue for me is just over -use, our seasons are 10 months long, we are starting pre-season now, the first game is not till March. Toward the end of the Season in August things like groin, knees, fingers, feet are all shot. But without a long pre-season particularly over 40 you can be prone to soft tissue injuries. So it is a a matter of just working through it. I must add though that I have just come off a couple of months… Read more »

Well done on the hill sprints, Rob, great way to get an intense workout in a very short time! How many did you do in the end? Brian makes sure never to walk down (always a jog) which keeps the heart rate up and makes it really challenging (I only kept pace for 5/10 last time I did it with him!)

rob allen

Thanks Julian – to be honest with you, I just added the hill sprint to the end of my run home. So I did it once or twice per day whilst I was there (I don’t live there). It definitely helped, as I was able to get my 5km down from 25:32 to 23:58 that weekend. My SMART goal for this is to run 5km in 22mins by 31 Dec. Are you still running with Brian and are you catching up?

Hello Realers – this isn’t quite on brief as I recorded these two videos about one of my fitness goals and how I tried Wim Hof Method to improve running performance. I’d appreciate any feedback, and will focus on developing some SMART objectives over the coming days. All the best, Rob

Hi Martin, Sorry for the delay in response. I am in the online retail market servicing B2B and B2C. One thing I was thinking of the other day. Thanks for sharing, Michael! I would suggest shortening the timeframe on the first goal to perhaps hitting 50% in 4 weeks as shorter term targets are often more successful. Also the third goal could be a little SMARTer, e.g. how often, for how long, what is the measurable outcome (maybe it ties in to goal #2)?

First goal is based on previous 6 months clients and the realistic projection on the current trajectory. In my area of business and where I am located it is a realistic goal, I would love to see it go up to 50% in 4 weeks. Every 2 weeks for goal number 3, it will tie in with goal number 2 definitely. 2 weeks regular training and 2 sessions of the EMS will help. Sorry I have no comments instead 2 questions:
What’s your product about ? Are you a programmer?
Are you going to practice Brasilian Jiu Jitsu or the traditional japanise Jiu Jitsu? (I’m a judo practicer,
but I’m learning BJJ to increase my fighting skill on the ground)…

David Nienhaus

Hey Davide, thanks for your constructive questions. I will begin with the easy question. I am referring to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, specifically Gracie Jiu Jitsu and my purpose is also to increase my ground fighting skills. The skills i have learned so far are almost completely referring to stand-up martial art. So I am pretty uncomfortable in ground fighting and i want to work on my “blind spots”. The second is actually harder to answer. But maybe thats why Miroslav Miguel Jindra also asked about this one. Because its so airy. I have the idea of offering information products. My… Read more »

BJJ, good choice ! I’m following the Gracie’s lessons on internet and try to apply with my brother at noon once a week (we are both Judo practicers so it’s easyer to apply a lesson on a video) I’d like to share with you this video, he is Joicko Willink, guest of London Real… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SGpDVCkhtD4 For the second point I wanna suggest something (maybe it’s usless, but you’ll never know…). Great idea, i thought about something like that when i watched the episode of Geoff Thompson at London Real. He talked about posturing and pre-fight, post-fight challenges. But you are right. It could go a bit deeper if i incorporate more of my knowledge in psychology.
I did also train a few of the online lessons of the Gracies with a fellow martial artist. For how long have you been training with the online lessons? What are your experiences? Do you think you can effectively learn the more advanced skills via online training?

Thanks for the advice!

I practice BJJ with my brother once a week, (we have the space to di it in my company) we both have a judo background (15 years of experience) so in some way we already know what they are talking about 1) we watch one single lesson 2) we try it in practice 3) we watch it again to check if we’ve done it right Even if in judo we learnt how to fight on the ground, we lack a “system” and that’s exaclty what grecie’s lessons provide. The other valuable part is how to “close the distance” from a… Read more »

I think you could divide your practice in two areas and do for example one form of martial art once a week and another one also once a week. In that way it doesn’t take so much time and as they are kind of related, you will be working in a similar direction in both of them. I think in general it’s oke to have a longer time-frame, just be careful it you don’t forget about it. Could you tell us more about your first product, be a bit more specific? And also, until now, you haven’t thought of the… Read more »

Hey Miroslav, the idea of different weeks sounds good but is not suited for me, because I am already teaching Wing Chun. So i canยดt just step out of this training for a full week without disturbing the flow of my martial arts school. Instead I was thinking about trying BJJ and if I like it get into it once a week, while still training Wing Chun and Liu He Ba Fa the rest of the week. The point of “not forgetting about the goal with the long timeframe” is an important one. Thanks for that. My idea to change… Read more »

David Nienhaus

Hey Miroslav, are you former students language students? What is the englisch football camp about? Is it some kind of language-sports-learning hybrid for kids? Great, that you are practicing the Wim Hof Method. If you are pushing through that one since 5 weeks (as it is 10 weeks total i think?), you should be getting to your 2 Minute squat easily. The squat is all about consistency. Jump down whenever you have a few seconds. I have been working on that a lot last year. I also like your idea of trying tantra with your girlfriend. Hi, yes, I used to teach English to a few people, but I stopped when I moved abroad and I never got back to it, The football camp is a bit more complicated to explain, but in short, it’s a camp for kids of around 12 years of age where they will mostly play football, do various drills, and in this case also study English. Also there will be kids from several countries so they will be forced to speak English with each other (some basic language skills are required). Allright Miguel then;)
the football camp sounds like a great way to bring different cultures together and make learning english fun for the kids.
My progress with the squat came actually pretty quickly because i was using the squat whenever i could to stretch my back. I was using little dosages of squatting a few times a day and making small movements while i am down. I thinks thats also a big bulletpoint of getting it. To use the new formed mobility in some way, through moving while you are in the position. Now its easy to stay down for several minutes.

I don’t have any experience with this so all I can think of is talking to people at events in your field (something like EXPO???) or trying to use the word of mouth, maybe try to have some friendly talk with your current/former customers and “convince” them to spread the word to other people in the field. Last idea is to talk to a person in a company that might be more open to discussion than the technician himself and work in this direction.

Ben, Would love that. Kind of like you, I’d like to purchase before the end of the year. I’m looking for something that I can put work into, and fix-and-flip or fix-and-rent. This is my first one, so I don’t want to take on more that I can handle. Ideally, I want it to be both a learning tool and profitable venture. Is this something you are really passionate about, or are you more interested in the potential profits? I’m somewhere in the middle. Maybe once I get started, I’ll find out I really like or it’s not so much… Read more »

Sorry for the delayed response Bryant. I’m much the same as you to be honest, I’m looking to flip and sell initially then will probably look to keep some to rent in time. I think a big part of it is just doing now was you say, which is something we can keep each other accountable to !

At the moment I’m focusing on making getting the finances in place in terms of bridging finance and then double checking costs hoping ot actual take the plunge very shortly ! How are you getting along ?

If you have other suggestions please let me know!

I like the elephant based ones because one of the business intentions is to help clients identify their ‘ elephant in the room’ regarding a problem or challenge they want to succeed with… P.S your business outliner would be greatly appreciated I need the help ๐Ÿ™‚ thank you!

The elephant angle speaks to me the most, but I’m not 100% sold on it. But that’s ok, I don’t have to be. I’ve always liked to do divergent thinking exercises when it comes to names. If you want me explain let me know. Sure thing bro sent you a facebook message.

How did you do on your goals Pete? Hope you achieved some if not all of them. As a bit of a website/brand designer myself, i’d recommend buying a few of those domain names then send out a survey monkey/google survey to all your mates and even us on here (FB Group). If you’ve already chosen the name, then best of luck, give me a shout if you need another set of eyes or constructive opinion on anything.

Hi Nigel, good to watch your video!
Some questions for you if I may be so bold/cheeky ๐Ÿ™‚
1) What are your top five values in life? And how does taking action to reach your goals help you live those values?
2) Have you always used fear/ pressure/ risk to achieve other things in life?
3) What action(s) do you have to take to feel like you’ve liberated your inner monkey?

Thanks Pete, some good questions! this rambles on a bit as you got me thinking….:) 1) I had to sit down and think about this one as its not something I think about, whereas the goals I think about all the time. This is what I came up with: – Freedom – Making a Difference – Family – Learning – Health I guess you’re asking whether the actions I’m taking on goals, and goals themselves, relate to those goals? (thinking this made me switch out one of the values that was missing from my fitness goal). Looking back at this… Read more »

Pete

Nigel thank you for answering the questions – really interesting to read the response! 1) Yeah definitely – I find that if my goals violate my values then I only get so far… for example I wanted to get onto an exciting team at work, however the required 15 min ‘call-out’ standby would seriously impact on my ability to go away with my family or get out into nature. When I looked at my goal of getting onto the team it met my need for team-work and professional satisfaction but my higher value was to have family time – which… Read more »

1) Agreed, that was a good exercise to see that I’d missed a few goals when I realised 2 of my values didn’t relate to any of the existing goals. I reviewed the ordering of my values which look like this now and I’m going to have them in the front of my journal so they are front & center when doing actions & goals: – Abundance – Freedom – Family – Health – Learning 2) That’s a good question – I don’t have the answer yet but it almost feels like I need to step away from the goals… Read more »

Hey Nigel that’s awesome mate! For the chin ups I recommend doing “drop downs”.. While you might not be able to do more than two chin ups, you can still jump up and go down and you train the muscles with resistance. Try that, 2 pull ups and 5+ drop downs and you’ll hit that goal easy. And for your feel goal keep up with the meditation ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck mate!

Thanks MariNa, I’m taking the day off to hopefully get a little writing done this morning. On weekdays it seems my morning rituals keep getting longer and longer between exercise, meditation, etc. Getting up even earlier is a possibility, but I’ve been priding myself on getting at least 7 hours of sleep, which certainly gets diminished when I get up at 4. Ah! That fire took me back YEARS to a time with friends at an impromptu bonfire (on someone else’s property!) and a bottle of vodka! And the motorcycling! Wow! Thats amazing! 6 jumps, thats really impressive ๐Ÿ™‚ The first few are the most scary ones, thats great! How did I start saving? An idea for the money put aside, this is second hand from Tony Robbins and very abbreviated. Take a % out of your income and be stubborn that it comes out each week /month regardless. You want 3 buckets, divide the money in 2, 1st bucket is low risk (stuff that goes up in value but slowly, bonds, house) this is your security bucket, 2nd bucket is higher risk but with higher return (stocks and shares) this is your growth bucket comes with more risk. The proportion of 1 to 2 buckets depends on your age the younger can risk more… Read more »

Anthony, I Love your video. I’m looking to get in to writing myself. Have you thought about doing a short course on Creative Writing? A former work colleague of mine did one recently and she found it immensely helpful. For your training, I found that employing a personal fitness trainer once a week was most helpful, as he taught me the correct exercises and how to get the best out of them, in order to achieve my goals. He can also motivate you and push you to achieve your goals. He also helped me with nutrition as well. He can… Read more »

Hey Svetlana! Thank you for the nice comment! Is free writing a way of making your thoughts flow without editing? I’ve head of that, and also the concept of the Morning Journal from Tim Ferris – think the book he recommends is called The Artist’s Way. I have tried that in the past – writing on paper for a solid half hour before doing anything else, but I have found it difficult to fit in with other morning activities (meditation, yoga, gym) so it has fallen out of my morning routine. But I would definitely be up for introducing a… Read more »

Wow immigration is an interesting one (and relevant for me as well)! Where did you immigrate to? Yes I started with that – Artist’s Way, great book but takes forever to complete the whole process – there are looots of exersies. I just took this “morning pages” one for myself, and that was the time where I just started my blog and had tons of doubts on how/what to write. When you switch this inner editor off it really is the key that helps you to get going! I also switched from handwriting to Evernote later. By the way, I… Read more »

Funnily enough i was reading about “Maximisers” and “Satisfiers” today. Maximizers gather ALL available information to make the BEST decision in respect of utility. Satisfiers do “enough” to make a good decision. Maximisers continue to analyse the options AFTER a decision concerned they haven’t selected the BEST option. Satisifers dont do this; they remain happy with their decision. Satisifers are generally happier than Maximisers! Hope the research goes appropriately! And do you need a licence these days to do kite-surfing???? Blimey….

Hi Mitch, Let me know if you need any support with reinforcing your morning routine. I’ve established my morning routine over the last 6-months, and its been one of the biggest improvements in my life. In my personal experience, and from taking in a lot of information about the topic, it takes more than 30 days to firmly implant into your life. More like 45-90 days. Consistency is absolutely key. I can’t stress this enough. 3-5 minutes of something is way better than nothing. Did you watch Chris Eubank’s video interview? He said his minimum daily exercise is 3-minutes which… Read more »

Hi Bryant,
thanks for the great inspiration already. So far I’m struggling most with getting out of bed and doing my routine (15 minute meditation, short home workout and cold shower) within a reasonable timeframe. I feel like I might not be able to do all of it, if maybe someday I’ll have to be somewhere very early. Maybe that’s just me being the perfectionist that I am, but in the end I can’t help it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Bryant Zwart

I’d suggest you focus on 1 thing, and do that for sure, without fail. Make it something you like, and don’t make it so big or time intensive that it will seem like a daunting task, or get in the way of where you need to be. I’m thinking 15 minutes max. Then if you have more time and focus add something to it. Make those bonus items, for now. But don’t miss the core activity. If you don’t have 15 minutes, do 5 minutes. The point is to get into the routine of doing something every day, basically first… Read more »

Michael Frank (Mitch)

Pretty good so far, meditation is first thing in the morning although I’ve been experimenting with taking the cold shower before rather than after it because I tend to fall asleep when sitting on the couch with my eyes closed just after getting up… Biggest struggle however is getting up early on a regular basis which of course also has to do with my bed times. Six hours of sleep is the absolute least I need but I aim for 7 which is hard with getting up between 5.30 and 6

Bryant Zwart
