DRESSING FOR SUCCESS has been a huge game changer for me, yes I learned some of these things from Dan Pena and then took them to the next level for myself! ARE YOU DRESSING FOR SUCCESS and if not WHY? Post your video below.

Hi guys,

My thoughts on the dress smart week. I’ve got some work to do…

Style beats fashion big time. Agree with everything you say. It’s good to hear that this week made you take a step back and take a good look at how you present yourself. I also started upgrading my wardrobe and educating myself on the topic early this year in preparation for a wedding I attended in July. And now I want nothing more than to be in a suit environment as soon as possible where I can live my newly discovered passion. πŸ˜‰ keep it up

It’s like a whole new world, there’s been people who I see looking really sharp and it does create a good impression, it just never sunk in that I should be doing the same. Do you have any tips or resources to get a bit better educated in style?

Hi guys,

I have not participated in this weeks challenge as I’m on holiday and therefore my suits, shirts, ties and oxfords are some thousand kilometres away. I normally were suits everyday (with a tie, maybe 2-3 times a week) especially if I’m meeting a client.

This is how it looks: https://is.linkedin.com/in/sigurdur-runar-olafsson-2b4b6713 (I didn’t have access to any other photo of me wearing the suits except on my LinkedIn account.

Cheers.

Nice office! Indeed it can be useful to dress up a little, even at home! Once, I did a job interview on the phone in my pyjamas and without realising it I started putting my feet up on the table and speaking with a super casual tone, forgetting the seriousness of the situation. But the next time I wore a shirt and jacket and felt more in control, my expresssions were different and I am pretty sure I sounded more professional just because of that!

Dressing for success “just in case” helped a lot with my spontaneous decision to walk into my local organic food shop and ask if I could come and help around a few hours a week!

It always so enternaining and go to see somebody in a suit or what can be “uncomfortable clothes” doing basic stuff and its funny! spontanous push ups and in a suit!
rolling on the floor like a kid wearing a dress and having fun for ladies or even dancing with the uniform!
I think our clothes has to be very good and fit and nice and clean, but never take the clothes seriously.
Our personalities gotta shine out trhough the clothes.
ex : naomi campbell doing community service on heals and fashion clothes!
its a bit excessive but i love the idea

Aude Debenest

It is funny to see people wearing suits on the academy after watching the same people performing sweaty burpees in their most comfortable outfits last week :). Good one Brian, I agree you never know when opportunities are going to arise, so dress for success just in case!

It takes a lot of time in the morning to decide what the “outfit” for success really looks like.. πŸ™‚

If you absolutely don’t feel like it, you shouldn’t. As you mentioned in the other post, you know the feeling, but you made a concious desicion against it. That’s fine.

Just one thing: there is some room from PJs to a suit. Rumours are, there are even cosy and good looking clothes out there, which aren’t for business meetings πŸ˜‰

Thank you Philip, for me there is a time and a place for sharpening up. I’m comfortable with my laid back style. I have to be true to myself in the moment, however the PJ’s can at least be upgraded to yoga pants or dungarees πŸ™‚

I’ve been a proponent of this idea for a while now. In a way it really makes me feel different leaving the house. I think a suit is a bit much for regular days at university but I never leave the house without wearing at least a dress shirt, matching watch and some nice shoes (insofar a student’s budget would allow). The hardest part for me is finding shirts and trousers that actually fit properly without having to get them adjusted.
Ill post a video later this week.

Well done Michael! Looking sharp! I’ve got the same problem like you. I work in sport/leisure industry and wearing smart clothes is not my daily thing, specially at work where i wear uniform. But i’ll do my best πŸ™‚ Good luck buddy!

Pete

Looking good Michael! It was weird for me too – I was only dressing up to drive into and out of work πŸ™‚
How did it feel at the end of the day, having worn the shirt???

Michael Schembri
Member

Not particularly different than when i’m not wearing a shirt. In the office it’s usually semi-formal. Even the directors sometimes come in wearing a t-shirt.

Pete

Could you set the new office standard a little higher then πŸ˜‰ ?

Ah Brian! I am certainly feeling resistance to this challenge, I’m the original queen of casual! When I left the bank I literally gave all my city clothes to charity. I work mostly from the comfort of my home in my comfy clothes, I’m having online meetings with CEO’s of multi million pound companies in my jogging bottoms (sometimes even my pj’s), of course if it’s a face to face meeting then I sharpen up. Dan Pena would wipe the floor with me!

Anyways……I’ll give it a go! πŸ™‚

Hey Zoe, where’s your video?;)

Michael Frank (Mitch)

Yay love this. Been getting more into men’s style clothing for a while now and trying to slowly upgrade my wardrobe although I’m on a tight budget. As for now I am almost sad that it is inappropriate to wear suits to university – but I think I found a pretty good niche.

Alexander Dziri

Michael Schembri

I’ve been tossing around the idea of upgrading my wardrobe… so let’s at least try… the next seven times i go to the office i’m going to wear a shirt (yes, it is a big deal for me :p).
Since i cycle a good distance to get the office, i’m not going to wear dress shoes/pants because it’s not really practical. Starting, tomorrow (since i’m at the office already today)
